Road Rage at it Best - Good Grief!

This is just a few miles south of Memphis:

DeSoto County motorist shot after pulling out in front of vehicle

OLIVE BRANCH, MS (WMC-TV) - A DeSoto County motorist was shot late Monday morning after pulling out in front of another vehicle on Highway 78 near Olive Branch.

According to Major Mark Kimbell of the Olive Branch Police Department, the incident happened when the victim pulled out in front of the suspect's vehicle, causing that vehicle to go off the road.

According to Kimbell, the suspect caught up to the victim by driving at a high rate of speed, pulled a gun, and fired one shot through the victim's driver's side window. The victim was struck by the bullet in the arm.

The victim pulled off the road at a rest stop on the westbound side of Highway 78, Kimbell said. The victim was eventually taken to Baptist-DeSoto Hospital in stable condition.

Man shot after he runs car off U.S. 78 near Olive Branch
Police search for assailant's tan Nissan Altima

By Christopher Conley (Contact), Memphis Commercial Appeal
Tuesday, December 2, 2008

A wild road rage encounter on U.S. 78 near Olive Branch late Monday morning escalated into a shooting that left a man wounded in the arm.

The victim, who was not identified, was being treated for a non-critical gunshot wound in his left forearm.

Meanwhile, Olive Branch Police Monday afternoon continued searching for a late model tan Nissan Altima, with its window shot out, seen speeding away after the shooting.

Just before noon, the victim's vehicle swerved and inadvertently ran the assailant's Nissan off the road in the westbound lanes of U.S. 78, near Bethel Road, according to Olive Branch Police Chief Art Heun.

After being forced onto the road shoulder, the Nissan re-entered the road, passed another westbound driver at high speed, then pulled up next to the victim's car,

The suspect fired a chrome handgun -- first through the window of his own vehicle, then through the victim's driver-side window -- striking the driver in the forearm.

The victim pulled into a rest stop to call for help, while the gunman's vehicle continued west.

A witness was able to recount the events for police, describing how the Nissan pulled up to the victim's vehicle just before the shot was fired.

I don't understand why idiots have to pull out in front of folks and cause them to drive of the road!

I don't understand why folks drive under the speed limit in the far left lane of a 4 lane Hwy!

I don't understand how a person can be driving slower than me and then when I go to pass them, they speed up!

I guess it is a good thing I don't carry a firearm in my vehicle!

I hope the idiot learns his lesson. I am sure this was not the first time this person was an inconsiderate driver!!!

I think the guy got what he had comin' to him.

I did not know him, but inconsiderate drivers are NOT usually first time offenders.

They drive like they're stupid. I am glad he wasn't killed-- which very well could have happened.

Wow - - could have been a one time thing too. Blind spot maybe?

I don't care how terrible he was driving or what happened that is NO EXCUSE for shooting at him.

I agree! I hope they catch the gunman and punish him to the fullest extent of the law.

Let me make it clear:

I have a strong dislike for idiot drivers-- especially those who cause are almost cause harm to other drivers.

The dumb dumb that got shot for pulling out in front of someone, causing that someone to go off of the road (maybe eve nearly wrecked), the dummy that caused all of that got what he had coming to him.

I can almost guarantee that was NOT his first time being inconsiderate.

He has reaped what he has no doubt sowed and I am glad for the God's Mercy in sparing the lives of the one who almost went off the road and the one who was shot.

How different would this thread be if it was your relative who was driven off the road and that person's vehicle flipped over-- all because someone else was an idiot!!!

The guy who was shot will find no pity from me-- not one iota!

I am glad he is alive.

Don't get me started about stupid drivers on the road!

I've learned the hard way it's just best to relax and chill - play it cool and get around them when they least expect it

That gunman may have been carrying out the will of God on a person who decided one time to many to be inconsiderate.

If he is not an angel, I hope he realizes that violence was not the proper response and that he learns to practice a bit of self control before he becomes worse than the idiot driver.

I hope he is NEVER caught!

What more is there to know?

What we have here is a case of an idiot who decided to be an idiot towards the wrong driver.

I call it, "poetic justice".

I am glad he did not die.

I bet that next time he will be apt to consider his ways when he goes to drive again.

He's a criminal. If he isn't caught, his next victim might not survive.

Was it not a violation of God's law when the prophet lied to and led the evil man to a different country to carry out his evil plans?

Paul prayer that Alexander the coppersmith would get what's coming to him (paraphrased).

So where was God's law violated in this case?

The law, "thou shalt not shoot an idiot the arm for almost causing serious bodily harm or possibly death to me" is not in my Bible.

Well as far as I am concerned, the criminal was shot. The criminal was in this case the victim of his own ways.

Some people have to learn the hard way.

Maybe one day I'll have enough energy to start a thread on a common sense approach to gun control. I know that it is a emotional topic (especially here), but I have heard some things that make sense to me in the real world.

TS, I don't have the time or the energy to get into this right now, but let me point out just a few things:
1. We don't allow convicted felons to bear arms and deny them this constitutional right, so it is not just that simple.
2. I am not of the opinion that we should all lose the right to bear arms.

Convicted felons lose more than one constitutional right.

If this fellow would have had more control of his gun the guy who pulled out in front of him would have been dead.

It was a blast, but we were exhausted when we got home! It took me a week to recuperate. I was really bummed that we didn't get to spend more time together, I want to come again with Lana and do it a little more relaxed! LOL! My brother is a drill sergeant, the day that we saw you was the only one that we actually were slow in the morning, but the day before had been brutal with that wind!

Unbelievable!! You honestly believe that it could be the will of God for someone to be shot in a situation like this??? Do you also say, "Gee, that woman was mouthy, so it was the will of God for her husband to beat the tar out of her. She was out of line, after all!" ??

The CRIMINAL is the guy with the gun. If the first driver was in the wrong, which he certainly could have been, then whatever happened to "vengeance is mine, saith the Lord"?? Why do you think it's ok for any person to take control with their own hands?

Hey, it would be the Metro all the way, I am in love with that! I was so sad to come home and have to drive everywhere! But for sure, next time I will be a lot more relaxed. Actually, and don't tell my parents I said this, I fell in love with the area, if I could find gainful employment, I would seriously think of moving that way!

Yes, I realize that and that was not really a part of my original thoughts on gun control. I was just pointing out that it is already not as simple as "we have the right to bear arms...end of story".
