Pastor not allowed to marry

I was watching the news a few days ago and they had a report on that said that Salvation Army pastors can only marry those who are on the same level as they are or they would lose their jobs as pastor.

One pastor had lost his wife and was about to be married again when he was told that if he married the woman of his choice who was not on the same level he would be released of his duties.

What do you all think about this?

It may be that but it is clearly spelled out on thier web page & every Sally Anne officer agrees to it.

I wonder what their reasoning is for that rule.

I hear that they call being an "officer" a calling & it would be akin to an Apostolic
Pastor after the death of thier wife going and marrying an unbeliever.

They are called officers. If that was the case, I think the ruling would say they can't marry anyone outside of the SA. If the first post is correct, it makes it sound like they have to marry the same level as in General or Lieutenant which is really weird.

I worked for a District Office of the SA in Jackson, MS. Nice people.

Re: Pastor not allowed to marry

This seems to be the story:

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The leader of a Wisconsin Salvation Army will lose his job if he goes ahead with plans to marry outside the organization.
Capt. Johnny Harsh of Oshkosh is engaged to a woman who's not affiliated with the Salvation Army. They're planning to marry in June.
Harsh says he's well aware of the agency's rule that says an officer may only marry another officer of the organization. But he doesn't think it's fair.
Salvation Army Advisory Board member Helen Lord Burr says the agency's rules are the same all over the world.
Harsh became engaged after losing his wife, Capt. Yalanda Harsh, to complications of a heart attack last June.

I think not only unfair, but also stupid and, and unbliblical.

Then again, this is the Salvation Army were talking about... an organization that does not believe in performing water baptisms <---- which to me is also a stupid and unbiblical position.

They were good to our family when I went to Sunday School from when I was 4 until I became a heathen at age 10!

I think its great!! I am becoming to realize its a sin to marry! I mean Paul says its best not to! So it must be a sin!

Thanks for the details - so it's because she's outside the organization. It looks like they at least have to be an officer too - not just a member of the SA.

My only reaction to this is to be homesick! LOL

Not because of anything having to do with marriage or the salvation army. But because Oshkosh is where I lived before moving to Georgia.
