AFF Secret Pal signup-- for 2009! Ends Dec 20!!!
 

There has been quite a bit of interest expressed in doing this, so I am going to organize this. If possible, men will be matched with male pals-- and women will be matched with female pals to prevent any potential problems.


You will fill out a questionnaire to let your secret pal learn some things about you. You will in turn receive a questionnaire with information filled out by the person who is assigned to you.

Here's what you're signing a pledge to do by becoming an AFF secret pal.


Pray for your secret pal on a daily basis. (You will receive info on special needs they would like to have prayer for)

Contact your pal by postal mail (note of encouragement, secret pal card, etc) ONCE a month. (more if you choose to do so)

Send your pal a Birthday gift. (Value $10)

If the person has a wedding anniversary to celebrate, send them a gift- (Value $10)

Send a Christmas gift (Value $10) in December 2009, revealing yourself as their AFF secret pal.

Any special days during the year such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, Thanksgiving, Valentines Day, etc... that you know your assigned person would enjoy receiving a card for-- feel free to mail them one.

Any additional things you want to send are up to you. If you choose to purchase small gift items to send throughout the year, that is entirely up to you. It is NOT a requirement. Only the occasions specified are required for participation.

If you'd like to set up a special email address somewhere like gmail.com or yahoo.com and email notes to your pal to keep in touch--if they provide an email address on the questionnaire, that is fine.


Hopefully some great friendships will be formed through the Secret Pal activity.

The AFF Christmas exchange will be done again next year-- This is a separate activity.

Signup is open starting NOW-- and will end on Dec 20, 2008. There will be NO extensions on signup, to allow for me to get everyone matched up, questionnaires sent out and returned to me-- then sent to the participants so they can get started by Jan 1.

One question tho: any suggestions on how to handle keeping our identity a secret when the postmarks will always show the state the cards/gifts originated from? Maybe if we have a self-addressed, pre-stamped envelope, we could stick it inside of a larger envelope, mail it to you, have you take it out and stick the card in the mail for us? Does that make sense? I know what I'm trying to say, but not getting it out very clearly I don't think. Sorry

Yes, I would be more than happy to remail any item.

Also, for packages- you can purchase postage online at the USPS website and print out a label similar to what you get when you use paypal shipping with ebay. I've done this numerous times by using various out of state addresses with the permission of who lived at that address--in order to truly remain a secret santa for a child I adopted at a forum. :D I would allow you or any other participant to use my address for a package using online shipping if anyone needed to do so. I will not be participating in the program-- just organizing and being a drop shipper. :christmoose

I'm interested to be honest I'm in a money crunch working out some debt and I might not can send a pal a gift on birthdays and such.

See my previous about using online postage for mailing packages. There are ways to hide where you ship from. Use the online postage to purchase labels, and ship from an outside mail drop box at a post office.... If you live in a small town, it will go to a big facility before getting postmarked. Sometimes in the same state- sometimes different states.

Or you could always send a non participating member in another state money for an item and shipping cost, and let them purchase and mail a package. Let every single thing you mail be sent from different places. :D
