All right guys....I need your help and opinion. I started putting my tree up and I don't have all the ornaments on it yet, I'm afraid it's going to look to "blah and bland". Do I need to put a lot of ornaments on it or more colors or what. My theme is red and gold, but do I need to add another color to this?

BTW, don't look at my house, it's a wreck trying to get all this stuff together.

Not my area of expertise. I'd say less is best though. This is my wife's strong hand. Is that a fake tree?

J/K I know what it is like trying to get decorations together & the mess it can create.
You do have a beautiful home!

I think it is better left up to PO or Renda or some of the other fine ladies who have some sense of decor!

First let me say that you look very nice in the picture! :santathumb

You can read, read, read all sorts of decorating material and everyone sounds like the authority. When it's all said and done you will find that everyone has their own opinion and their own particular taste. Follow yours.

A tree like yours - rule of thumb - three colors is the max. I wouldn't incorporate another color into the scheme. Lights are put on first, largest ornaments next and garland last.

Now for the red garland, since you asked. LOL! I like your choice, but it is dominating the tree and not accenting the tree. If you want to spread it out that big, you will have to go with bigger ornaments.

I prefer draping a garland like yours in this way:

You can also drape your garland in this way, which isn't my preference, but the top of the tree is the focal point as you need to tie the tree together with some type of topper so that it isn't left hanging and visible. I'm sure you intended to do that anyway since you said you weren't finished with the tree.

I think the garland is the issue- It is overpowering the tree- drape it in bunches and put more ornaments on it. By the way you look great in the picture-Love the red shoes.

I forgot about this picture. Though she's using a feather boa, the draping effect would be the same. I like this one.

Your tree is fuller and will look nicer in the end, IMO.

A few thoughts here:

What, not a real tree?
or at least a green one if you're gonna use a fake one?

CS and LCS are not as conservative as I thought
if they have a Christmas tree
and
if LCS wears red shoes

I don't have any positive suggestions for decorating the tree. I'm old and I just like green trees with lots of lights and various ornaments.

I would take PO's suggestion and make the red garland less spread out.

I would go and get a few dozen plain red and gold balls and make that the majority of the ornaments and let the ones you have on there now be the accents. The balls will catch the light and reflect making the tree even look fuller.

It's pretty, but not enough on it.

PS - you do look very pretty, but if you had more ornaments on the tree, then you'd smile and look even prettier - both you and the tree!

Ok. I think this is better. Not too sure. The red mesh is really almost overpowering to me. My hubby thinks it looks good so not sure what else to do......

What color? I have a bunch that are red with white wording or pictures and then I have ones with white and red wording or pictures.

I think that if you use more RED ornament and if you want more gold then use it in small bows or something. If you add another color it would be over the top.

Hey, it's late and I'm tired.

Worked my tail off today, and then had my work Christmas party at the Country Club, hence the dressed up state in the picture. Then had to go to walmart and get stuff for the ladies christmas party tomorrow night then had to go the church and pick up something, then had to go the sonic, jr needed a blast "cause his throat was hurting" came home changed into my robe and read the thread and started working on my "wonderful" tree, which I'm ready to chunk out the door right now.

you know a really BIG red gold and white bow on top would be nice. Having small streamers of that ribbon hanging down and weaving throughout the tree.

I would get two dozen each of red and gold balls - personally, I would get them all the same size - - medium or just the regular size you always see.

After Christmas add to your red and gold collection by buying other ornaments all different things that are gold and red. Let the balls always be the base of the decorations and then the assorted red and gold different ornaments be the accents.
