We had a wonderful snow outing for our youth group. Had over 40 people show up. Unfortunately on the way back home, we had a minor wreck. Could have been much worse, we were carrying 7 in the SUV.

A vehicle 2 cars in front of us lost a Christmas Tree, the next vehicle swerved and hit brakes to avoid it, the SUV in front of me, braked hard, ran over the tree.

Needless to say, when going 55 and coming to a complete stop, I couldn't stop in time and I rear ended the vehicle. His bumper was beat up, but my SUV took the worst damage.

We were blessed that no one was hurt, insurance will pay for the stuff. Thanks for your prayers.

Insurance covers the stuff, but to me never enough to take care of life and limb. So we were blessed.

I was in a similar incident but the car lost one of those mountain bikes they often have on the back. I ended up with a face full of glass, but like you, it could have been much worse.

I don't know what the law is in the States but if you could substantiate your claim with independent witnesses that the things happened as you said, not only would it not be your fault, but the one who lost the Christmas tree would get a ticket for having an unsafe load!

Anybody get a license or perhaps other witness's in the cars in front to verify your story?

I believe you, I just know how Insurabce companies look at these things.

Both parties said the same to the Highway Patrol. The officer didn't say anything to me about fault or citation.

They figured if you hit the person in front of you then you were not leaving ample room between you and the person in front of you.

My husband was in a very similar accident the other night his was however a 4 car pile up but the 2 ....one at beginning and one at end both ran but the police said it does not matter as for the ones who were left because no matter who hit why or who or how the person who hit from behind us at fault always here different states may be different but he also said they do not give citations for every accident so don't take that as them not placing blame. When you go pick up the copy of the report it should say and if not then up to the insurance co. Gotta love em!

Carrying a Christmas tree? After New Years?

That might narrow down the suspects to Armenians ("Christmas" is Jan. 6) or other Eastern Orthodox ("Christmas" is Jan. 7).

Or maybe it was someone of the Western tradition who mistakenly thought he could reseat the tree onto it's old stump in the forest. And then they stopped to pick it up without any intention of rendering aid for those hurt by their negligent knotting skills. Must have been some tree!

I'm glad no worse damage was done.
