Inconsistencies, Inconsistencies, Inconsistencies!

In Christendom/Apostolica, what inconsistencies would you like to see "rewritten?" :D

I agree.

Re: Inconsistencies, Inconsistencies, Inconsistenc

First of all, I would like to exterminate the word "Apostolic."

It does not define me. I think it is exclusionary and vague.

We picked it up to separate ourselves from everyone else who had picked up the "Pentecostal" tag.

I am still Pentecostal. I like to be called Pentecostal.

I am Pentecostal in experience.

I am Pentecostal in doctrine.

Re: Inconsistencies, Inconsistencies, Inconsistenc

Second, the way to consistency is through maturity.

Don't see that happening any time soon, because we don't love teaching nearly as much as we should.

So you are saying for starters the name is inconsistent?

Next, if people would quit trying to live as close to the edge (world) as possible, and start getting as close to Jesus as possible, we wouldn't even have these stupid inconsistencies.

Christianity to the lowest common denominator is all the rage.

Why is it females will lust over my knees and ankles ... if I wear shorts ...

But males won't lust over-exposed knees and ankles ... if a female wears a skirt?

Absolutely.

What in blue blazes does "Apostolic" mean?

We can't even agree on that.

However, anyone who has been filled with the Holy Ghost has experienced Pentecost.

Well Daniel, I'm sure your legs are quite attractive.

That's why.

I've always understood it to be anyone that lives by what the Apostles taught.

Webster defines it thusly:

1. of or characteristic of an apostle.
2. pertaining to or characteristic of the 12 apostles.
3. derived from the apostles in regular succession.
4. of or pertaining to the pope; papal.

Which Apostle?

Again, very vague.

The Pentecostal experience is very singular. Easily discernable.

The term Pentecostal, when applied to religious groups, teachers, or customs, usually implies that the participants believe that all Christians should expect to experience the same empowerment of the Holy Spirit, particularly evidenced by the gift of speaking in tongues. Many Pentecostals believe this empowerment to happen at a time separate from conversion or water baptism.

Re: Inconsistencies, Inconsistencies, Inconsistenc

We had a pastor who told us not to tell anyone we were Pentecostal because there were "57 varieties" of Pentecostal. We were told to call ourselves Apostolic meaning we believed and practiced what the Apostles taught.

On my business cards it says I am:
Apostolic in doctrine
Pentecostal in experience
Charismatic in practice
Non-denominational in affiliation
Inter-denominational in fellowship

If that's the case, and I agree with you consequently, why do you think there is such a push in the UPCI to make everyone line up lockstep on the "other issues"?

Paul wasn't one of the twelve ...

BTW ...

Why does Paul write that the believer may eat meat sacrificed to Idols (Romans 14:14-23), (1 Corinthians 8:4-13) but in Revelation Jesus Christ condemns the Church of Pergamus and Thyatira for "eating meats sacrificed to Idols (Revelation 2:14, 20)??

WAS PAUL APOSTOLIC?

I stopped saying I was Pentecostal when I was in high school because of a group of crazy holiness people in our town. They were the kind you didn't want to be associated with. Sorry - just telling ya how it was.

Because some among of us have perverted what the gospel actually is/was.

Why is it okay to go canoeing, but wrong to go swimming together? Everybody knows the canoe is gonna tip over at some point. Hello!!!!!

My opinion is that it ain't mixed bathing if you don't bring soap. ;)

How about this.

I never heard "us" referred to as Apostolic until I was a grown man.

I don't like the reason we started calling ourselves that.

Why can we go golfing at the country club, and even eat at Texas Roadhouse - where liquor flows freely - but it is an abomination to attend a sporting event?

The reason is, believe it or not, that Pentecostal just wasn't separate enough any longer. :(

We needed to prove that we were better, bless God!
