Holiness and more...Psalm 96:9

Worship the LORD in holy attire; Tremble before Him, all the earth.
GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)
Worship the LORD in [his] holy splendor. Tremble in his presence, all the earth!

King James Bible
O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

American King James Version
O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

American Standard Version
Oh worship Jehovah in holy array: Tremble before him, all the earth.

Bible in Basic English
O give worship to the Lord in holy robes; be in fear before him, all the earth.

Douay-Rheims Bible
adore ye the Lord in his holy court. Let all the earth be moved at his presence.

Darby Bible Translation
Worship Jehovah in holy splendour; tremble before him, all the earth.

English Revised Version
O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: tremble before him, all the earth.

Webster's Bible Translation
O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.

World English Bible
Worship Yahweh in holy array. Tremble before him, all the earth.

Young's Literal Translation
Bow yourselves to Jehovah, In the honour of holiness, Be afraid of His presence, all the earth.

The Hebrew word is hadarah, and it occurs only 5 times in the Bible. Its literal definition is "adornment, holy adornment, or glory".

It has to do with the way you present yourself at a certain place or occasion. It includes your demeaner, grooming, posture, and attitude.

I thought we could discuss holiness maybe in another light other than just clothes...most of us have our minds made up on how we are going to dress however holiness means much more than just grooming...
Holiness has to do with our attitudes....spirits....hearts....

Re: Holiness and more...Psalm 96:9

Holiness is not something we just take off and put on...holiness is our culture a part of our everyday lives. Our dealings with others are pure and upright. It becomes a way of life...
The N.T. writer called us a holy nation... and Isaiah so beautifully expressed:
Isaiah 61:10 – “I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall exult in my God; for He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.”

We become a reflection of our Creator...our God....

Maybe we could say an outward reflection of an inner beauty...

Sis Alvear, very good post.
I know minds are already made up as to dress, but I was thinking today about how we will be adorned with "Robes" in the New Jerusalem, not shorts & halter tops!:D

Yes, it does very much also involve our attitudes.

Re: Holiness and more...Psalm 96:9

In Hebrew the word-group around KADOSH has to do with difference. God is holy, elementally, in that God is different.

The New Testament Greek word that translates KADOSH is HAGIOS. In the New Testament it is everywhere used of Christians. Christians are said to be HAGIOI (plural.) All the English translations here read "saints".

So from my point of veiw we are to take on the personality of Christ Jesus...

Paul wrote to the congregation in Corinth , "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God ? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God . And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God."

Holiness includes our inner intent, attitude, disposition...etc..

Holiness includes our behaviour, conduct, and visibility.

Dear ones it is a deep subject...

Someone once said:

"I would estimate your possessions, not by the size of your tax receipts, not by the breadth of your fertile acreage, not by the location of your city blocks, not by the fullness of your bank deposits, not by the texture of the coat you wear, not even by the rank of social clan to which you belong, but by the grace of your spirit and the measure of your mind; for “the kingdom of God is within you.”

Sounds about right!
Thing is, I spoke yesterday on "Increasing & Decreasing!"
It is time for Jesus to have the preeminence in my life!

More of Jesus & less of me.

I am still workin' on it!

The foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, the Lord knoweth them that are his. And let all that name the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Tim 2: 19.

Re: Holiness and more...Psalm 96:9

Isa 62 4. 'Thou shalt be called Hephzibah, for the Lord delighteth in thee.' It was her holiness that drew God's love to her. Isa 62:12 And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.
God values not any by their high birth, but their holiness. The Lord delights in His church. Psalm 149:4, "For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation." Isaiah 43:4,
If I am not mistaken the word "Hephzibah" is found in only two places in the Bible.

I want the Lord to delight in me and for that to happen I must reflect HIS image to this sin sick lost world.

How often do you smile?
