What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?
Throughout three of the synoptic Gospels there is repeated reference to Jesus preaching the "gospel of the Kingdom." Nearly all of these references were prior to the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. So................................................ ... for all of our scholars..... what was the "Gospel of the Kingdom of God" that Jesus was preaching?
Matthew 4:23, Matthew 9:35, Matthew 11:5, Matthew 24:14, Matthew 26:13 Mark 1:15, Mark 13:10, Mark 14:9 Luke 4:18, Luke 7:22, Luke 9:6, Luke 20:1 |
Re: What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?
I think the Gospel of the Kingdom is the Principles and Doctrine that Jesus taught...
Parable, Praying, Principle and Doctrine all were keys to Kingdom living here on the earth...imo.. |

Re: What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?
I don't consider myself much of a scholar, but I think in short, it means;
HIS total rule in our life, not ours. We are ambassadors of the King and his Kingdom. We represent him and His Kindom. He showed power over "His flesh", and over evil spirits etc.. The good news (gospel)of the Kingdom, is that its righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holyghost. I believe talk of the kingdom pointed to the Holyghost given to us, to allow His Spirit in us to overcome our flesh, and any hindering spiritual enemies. Thereby, continually striving for His total will and reign in our lives to be accomplished, is allowing his Kingdom to "reign and rule in us". No earthly kingdom can do that, so its good news of a "Heavenly Kingdom". His Kingdom come, His will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. IMHO. |
Re: What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?
The gospel of the Kingdom prior to Calvary and Pentecost meant the Kingdom of God was near, and it would arrive at the birth of The Church, which I take at the Day Of Pentecost.
Both Jesus and John The Baptist both preached the Kingdom Of Heaven or Kingdom of God is at hand,or that it was near or fixing to come. |
Re: What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?
That's a really loaded question and one that greatly depends on your hermeneutical point of reference.

Re: What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?
What did Philip preach to the Samaritans in Acts chapter 8?
Verse 5 says he "preached Christ unto them." Then a further description is given in verse 12 where it say he preached "the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ" (Messiah or Anointed One). I'm not a scholar, but I'll give my opinion. The kingdom of God (or kingdom of heaven) is the reign of God. When a person submits to God as King of their life, they are in the kingdom of God. Anyone ruled by God is in the kingdom of God. That's why Jesus could look around on a group of people and say, "the kingdom of God is among you" (Luke 17:21). In other words, "People, the kingdom is within you" because among the people standing around Him, some had submitted to Him, He ruled them, and within that crowd were citizens of the kingdom of God. |
Re: What is the Gospel of the Kingdom?
Are the "kingdom of God" and the "kingdom of heaven" one and the same?

Matthew 4:17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near." as compared to: Mark 1:14-15 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, {15} And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. or Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. as compared to Luke 6:20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. |

They basically taught that the Kingdom of God was the "real" church and the kingdom of heaven was the visible or professing church. In my opinion, they are the same. Matthew almost always uses the term kingdom of heaven where other Gospels use the term kingdom of God. Matthew wrote his Gospel for the Jews and followed a Jewish custom and used the word heaven to refer to God. |
