Getting to know you

It is far easier to treat people with respect here when more is known about them. "Humanizing" someone, or knowing about their interests with a little history only helps to place a real person with their screen name.

So where do you live, and do you like it there?

Are you married?

If so how did you meet and what was your wedding like?

What do you do in your church?

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

Tim Rutledge, I want to know more about you! I hear a lot of one line proclamations but your avatar speak volumes about the kind, gentle, and generous man behind them.

If wholehearted is reading this, I want to know more about you! Trying to get you to type more than a short sentence is like pulling teeth but I think there is am interesting man buried behind your screen name and am interested in knowing him! :)

Steve Epley.... Well, you may be gone by now but we've never met face to face nor have we really talked here. I only remember YOUR short one-line proclamations, but everyone to the person says you are a gentle and kind person in the "real world" as well.

Me? I'm just a goon.
There is also more about me at www.randyandgail.com. I did the Hermes slide show and my wife did all the others. The site IS going to experience a major face lift soon. Right now it is just there to provide a place for the links.

They were just sample questions. :)

The whole point is to let people know who you are other than just via scree name.

So do you do the 3D animations we often see on any given episode of CSI?

Jeff and I live out in the country in Oklahoma on 10 acres where our kids can run without me panicking about traffic or weird neighbors! I don't have to listen to ambulance/fire truck sirens anymore!

Currently I'm doing a lot less in the church than I was last year (and the 8 years before that), but I'm still playing/singing on Sunday AM, and teaching a primary class on Wednesday nights.

Let's see...homeschooling our three kids, ages 13, 11, and 6, Hannah, Sarah & Jeffrey II respectively.

Jeff is an industrial engineer, and webmaster/bbqmaster on the side.

Also...my Christmas decorations are still up. :D

Haha ;) Usually not that exciting. Mostly patent and civil disputes - some construction, and occasionally criminal.

Re: Getting to know you

So where do you live, and do you like it there? Oak Creek, Wi 10 miles from Milw. I love Wisconsin.

Are you married? Yes 22 years (I am 44 she is 43)

If so how did you meet and what was your wedding like? I met her watchnight service 1979. So we met on the last day of "79" and talked the first few minutes of 1980.

We were visiting the church. My father had passed away in March of 1978.

He and the pastor here in Oak Creek were good friends.

We were living in Cincinnati at the time.

Where my dad had started a church in 1977.

We were married on a Saturday afternoon at 11:30AM candle light service Dec 27th, 1986.

The service was awesome.

We had 500 pepole at our wedding.

We had 250 people at our reception...

Attached is one great picture from that day.

What do you do in your church? My wife and I are involved, she in the music praise and worship team. I am working my way into ministry after many years of knowing that was my interest.

What are some of your hobbies and interests? Playing fast pitch baseball, baseball and baseball card collecting.

I enjoy movies from the classic period of Hollywood 1935-1949.

I have studied the lives of over 100 of the classic movie starts from that period.

I enjoy learning and will not stop until I know almost everything about my next interested topic.

I enjoy driving my 2006 Mustang GT.

I have 2 sons John 18 (a living miracle) and son Cody 14 who is awesome as well...

I sell voice and data applications to large organizations. I work mostly with hospitals...

So where do you live, and do you like it there? I live in Mineola, TX. And yes I do like it here.

Are you married? Yes, and have been for 32 years.

If so how did you meet and what was your wedding like? We met at work. It was a small ceremony in an historical courthouse.

What do you do in your church? Sing, worship, fellowship, and enjoy great teaching and preaching, by a great Pastor.

What are some of your hobbies and interests I like AFF, computer games, and spending time with my grandchildren.

Re: Getting to know you

So where do you live, and do you like it there?

Pocahontas, TN. For the most part, I like it because I live close to my family. The down side is I have to drive 30 minutes to get anywhere.

Are you married?

Yes, for 20 years. Have 3 children- ages 19, 15, and 9.

If so how did you meet and what was your wedding like?

Met in a restaurant when I worked there as a waitress. He came in and ordered a pineapple milkshake. I told the girl I was working with 5 minutes after he walked in that he was the man I was going to marry. She thought I was crazy at the time. Maybe I was. :D

The wedding: We eloped. :heeheehee

What do you do in your church?

I am director of activities for the Young at Heart ministry. I usually end up volunteering or being volunteered to do lots of other things working with the youth camps as well. I'm always told I have a servant's heart. I don't like being told that because every time I hear it I think about the Tim Hawkins comedy clip where he talks about "stacking chairs". :D

What are some of your hobbies and interests?

I paint when I have the time. I love to read pretty much anything I get my hands on. I am a fast reader and can usually finish most books in a very short time. It drives my kids crazy. :D Lately I've been reading mostly christian fiction and devotional type books. I homeschool my children which takes up most of my time, so spare time to paint now is a luxury. I miss painting.

Other boring things you didn't know:
I'm what my sister calls an educated reader. My head is filled with a lot of what you'd probably consider useless information. The funny thing is that my sister is a doctor. If she needs to know something that is outside of her field of expertise... she calls me-- because she just knows that whatever it is, I'll know the answer. LOL I'm glad someone has that kind of confidence in me. :D

I could watch reruns of I Love Lucy or Little House on the Prairie all day long if I had nothing else to do; However, I rarely have an hour or two a week that gets devoted to sitting and watching anything on TV unless it's an educational type program that I watch & discuss with the kids.

Movie preference would be varied as long as it's clean. (Think the type of movies that Hallmark Channel plays)

Music preferences: Southern Gospel & Contemporary christian or praise & worship music. I own one soft jazz CD and if I really need to relax, I listen to that to fall asleep.

Snack weakness: Almonds or apple slices dipped in sugar free caramel.

I'm not a morning person. :coffee2

Re: Getting to know you

I live in Maceio, Alagoas the capital of our state. It is a tourist coastal city and has beautiful beaches and resorts...Like all Brazil we have our shantytowns and experience lots of robberies.
I want to move to another state in Brazil to pioneer one more area but I donīt know if our bodies can take it! I love to start new works.
I love to study Jewish history and teach those that are interested anything I might know. I love to share information.
My husband and I met in Brazil at a church conference! The first time he saw me he walked up to me and said he was going to marry me! I told him I didnīt know so much about that...he told me to pray that he did not need to pray about it for the Lord spoke to him I would be his wife...lol...6 months later (1972) we were married!
We are complete opposites! I could live in a jungle, sleep in a hammock and be happy...he likes his good bed and the big cities...He is a wonderful singer and musician and I could not tell you the difference in c or d...
I love to study, do research, and write letters...if he wants something researched he just tells me to do it for him!
I donīt have to have a lot of sleep...he needs his 8 hours if possible.
He is level headed, kind, slow to anger, forgives without carrying a grudge, has worlds of patience, sees good in about everybody, likes his things in perfect order...

His desk looks ready for a president to sit down well....my desk is clean but not always in order...
If he hears a noise he locks the house...(See he has good sense) I run outside to see what is going on! lol...
He wonīt touch a gun but let me have one!
I love to camp out he had rather relax in a hotel somewhere...
We both enjoy traveling.
I am not a shopper...He loves to shop!
He is more settled and I love adventure!
He would be happy to have a service, sing from the song book and bring a sermon...
I like new things (ducking at this moment) gesture choirs, sign choirs, lights, plays, skits or whatever as long as it is done in sincerity to glorify Jesus.
I might forget to pay the light bill to buy a box of food for some hungry family…he would pay the light bill first…
Several times our young people from different churches have written plays and act out our life as comedy!
Oh, yeah I love AFF but if he does go on a forum it is CAF…
So long live our differences of choices that is probably what makes us so happy!
We admire each other!

We both like people...enjoy church and love the Lord.

Re: Getting to know you

Let's see.

My real name is Heather. I've used nahkoe online for 10 years, and I use it everywhere. It's a Cheyenne word for mother, in case anyone missed where I explained it in another thread. :)

I moved to the Austin, Texas area in June and absolutely LOVE IT here. I'm probably going to move into Austin in June when my lease is up, but I can't see myself leaving the area any time soon (says the woman with wander lust.....) I lived in Idaho before I moved here. I was in the general area (but not any specific area..lol) for 7 years minus 5 months I spent in Iowa...in a bedroom in my mother's house because we were homeless. Ugh on that. Idaho is much nicer than Iowa. Anywhere is much nicer than Iowa. Idaho is a really awesome place to live and I loved it where I was. Before that, I lived in Panama City Florida. Not my ideal vacation spot much less somewhere to live. Before that was Wichita Falls, Texas, and San Antonio before that (yes, my ex was Air Force...can you tell? lol) Before that was South Dakota..and before that Iowa. I've moved 17 times in the last 13 years.

I am no longer married. I was married for 8 years, however. Our 8th anniversary fell in the middle of the 2 months between when we separated and when the divorce was final. We had a 6 year old, 5 year old, 3 year old and 6 week old when we separated. Joshua, Hannah, Mikael and Justyn are 10, 9, 7, and 4 now.

I listen well in my church. lol I do help with set up and tear down (we rent a room in a sound studio for services). But aside from that, I study and listen. I'm not ready for any more than that yet.

I am a full time student, work full time, and full time single parent 4 kids. I also babysit (in exchange for childcare while I work, and some extra cash). I feel like hobbies are a thing for people who are far better off than I am.

Ok, I guess internet forums are a hobby. :)

I used to game (computer games, MMORPGs, etc), I would if I had time and probably will again at some point in the future.

I tutor math because I absolutely love it, and I even charge some people for the tutoring. lol I'm currently planning to be a math teacher. That might change if I can get an education degree more quickly than a math degree. I can always certify in math later on, but I've got to earn more than I do working fast food someday, and the sooner the better on that one.

When I had time, I sewed and gardened and did a lot of food preservation. I love arts and crafts of all sorts, and some people say I have talent. I used to own my own business, making and selling candles.

I read everything I get my hands on. I love learning and studying and research. Right now I'm learning Hebrew, I guess that's a hobby too. It does consume most of my free time. :)

I LOVE kids. I absolutely love having an apartment full of kids and all the energy and chaos that comes with it.

ok, let's see........
I live in a small town outside of Toledo, Ohio called Swanton. Population: about 5000? That's just a guess. Probably quite a bit on the high side. We moved here when I was 5. I went to school all the way thru here. Then I moved to Pontiac, Michigan, then back here, then to Owosso, Michigan, then back here, then to Barbourville, Kentucky, then back here to stay. So yes, I guess I do like it here.

I have been married to Walt since 1985. That will make us 24 years in Sept. of 2009 :) The best 24 years of my life - seriously!! And we have 2 sons, Justin is 19 and a freshman in college. Keith is 15 and a freshman in high school. Which is where he'll probably be for the rest of his life at the rate he is going :(

Walt's sister and I were good friends all the way thru high school. But Walt was a Senior when I was a Freshman. I remember looking at him in band (he played baritone and I played clarinet) and thinking that if I was going to "go after" any boy, it would be someone just like him. He wasn't a jock, but he was definately the smartest kid in the school! But alas, he was too much older than me. And he left the next year for the Air Force Academy. And Pam got married 2 years later. So we lost all contact for over 10 years. Then one day I moved back to Swanton from Barbourville. And Pam moved back from Minnesota. And we met up at the grocery store. And she suggested to me that we should go and catch up with her brother, Walt, at the Fulton County Fair where he would be working in the Fire Barn. And that's just what we did. The rest is history. Walt and I dumped Pam and her boys and spent the rest of that day together and we've been together ever since.

Our wedding was beautiful. I'll post a picture tomorrow. The best part was when we walked out of the doors of the church. We had arranged for balloons instead of bird seed. And then we planned to borrow a car from my cousin's car lot instead of spending money on a limo. But instead, Walt's dad arranged for us to be picked up by a horse and carriage. What a great surprise for us!

What do I do in our church? I put together the Power Point for all of the services. I am on the worship committee. I attend and occasionally lead a Ladies' Bible Study on Tuesday evenings. And I am in the ensemble, playing my clarinet. Walt plays his baritone and Keith plays his guitar, as well. I am also on the Board for the Northwest Ohio Emmaus Community. I am the Outreach Chairperson, which means I put together the newsletters and the ConstantContact announcements as needed.

Hobbies and interests?? I love to read. In books I prefer fiction. I'm not much of a self-help type reader. I also love photography! I am huge into taking pictures. And I have a great time editing them. I also do watercolor paintings. And crochet some. And mostly I play on the computer.

Job: I do home daycare. Right now I only have 3 little ones. 2 are in school all day. And 1 is 14 months old. She's my little sweetie. And I make DVDs for our local funeral home. That's becoming more of a full time job all the time :), which is good, because that is what I'd like to do as my only job. 'Cept I don't want to give up Mylee. So I guess I can't have it both ways.

So what else do you want to know? We have a 5 year old dog named Indie. And a 15 year old cat named Christmas Kitty. I don't eat potatoes, beans or peas. My Christmas decorations are down. In fact, I would have been happy if we hadn't even put them up this year.

I guess that's enough, eh? Good night, all. Love yas! :bedtime <--- that's gonna be me in 5 minutes!
