My daughter used my phone a couple of months ago to text a friend and used over 400 texts (incoming and outgoing) before I figured it out! :D (within about a week)

NOW I don't let her use my phone to text, but when they get phones, we will definitely have the unlimited plan--at $30/month for the whole family, it's a LOT cheaper than 200 msgs. + .50/text for every msg. over.

Ours counts incoming texts as well...and it's really easy to pile up a bunch of texts....

I have an idea... Use the phone to TALK and the computer to text. :)

We have nearly 4000 minutes banked right now with AT&T's rollover minutes. And they keep piling on.

on second thought, I'd better make sure the unlimited data is for both lines, and not just the primary..... If I had hair, I would pull it out.

But I do have people text me. I didn't know they charged for that. Thanks Bryan.

Now I will just have to ignore them, I don't like getting extra charges.

You will still be charged for incoming text messages. Add on a text package if you want to use it. If not, tell people to stop sending you messages because it's costing you money to receive them. ATT offers 200 messages for about $5 a month. It's cheaper than paying per message rates, which is what you'll be doing if people are sending you messages without you having a text package.

dont forget that some carriers count any text over 80 characters as another text..and they COUNT spaces. So if you send a text with 160 characters, including spaces - it's TWO texts....

if you send book texts, it can be as many as 3 or 4 in the grand scheme of thing...


just another thing they dont explain...

I used to work in the industry, it's common practice. not each carrier may say 80 characters, but there is generally SOME kind of limit and guess what, its LESS than your phone will let you type in at one time :D

Unlimited text and data plan here , for 3 phones $ 129 per month. Me and daughter have blackberry's.

Oh and just a heads up for parents :

Daughter ran up a huge text bill about twice after grounding and preaching to her about it. So I went ahead and got the above package.

Couple weeks later I overheard her tell a girl friend of hers, "just keep texting over the limit and they will finally just get you an unlimited plan, thats what I did"

Tell them to turn of the beep too! I'm tired of wandering around the house after everyone has gone to bed trying to track down some errant beeping device with some inane message about "c u 2" or some such from someone I never heard of usually only to find out that it's a message from the scion of a friend of my own that I haven't seen in years but turn that beeping and ringing off!

My bill was half that this month... of course i bundled it with my home phone and internet... and had a bal of $75 added from last month... but I am still looking for ways to cut it down... I've got the unlimited stuff, but with 4 cell phones going and three of them belonging to teens, you gotta have the unlimited.

Well, for financial reasons, a few years back I cancelled my personal cell, and just make due with my work cell (saved myself $60 a month), and my work cell service does not come with any texting...

UPDATE:

I called ATT this morning to make sire I received the package that I requested.
The jerk that sold me the package did NOT include the unlimited data!
Our family plan just went into effect today. I added unlimited internet to compliment unlimited text.
I have been accessing net sice the 1st like it was going outta style. From the sound of it, I will not be responsible for any overages for the secondary line.

I was going to cancel the landline. We don't use it much. Seeing as we are poor folk, we qualified for some type of welfare. Our landline is going to be approx. $3 a month.
