Who I respect the most on AFF!!
It is not the person who agrees with me!
It is not the person who disagrees with me! It is not the person who has no opinion! It is not the person who is extremely opinionated! Who I respect the most on AFF are the people who hold their beliefs/convictions in a sacred manner who are secure of who they are in the Lord. Those who are comfortable in their biblical positions and yet at the same time have a profound respect for those who hold different viewpoints from them. These people don't have to have things THEIR way but they are not about to compromise in the least on the foundation they are standing on. It's not THEIR way or you're a backslidden apostate. There are many such people here on AFF and you can tell who they are by their attitudes. You know where they stand. You know Who they belong to. You know you're not going to convince them otherwise. They are, however, not afraid to let you know where they stand but they don't cram it down your throat either. To these people, diversity is not of the debil, it is from the Creator. I truly love these kinds of people! They have a strong back bone, a solid resolve and an iron will. They also have the Spirit of Christ and it is obvious in their demeanor. May God bless you all abundantly!! You know who you are! You are the ones who really make AFF the safe place of liberty and diversity it is!! SALUTE!!! :yourock |

I'm new here, but I admire the ones who give genuine, thoughtful answers, and use scriptures to back up their position when appropriate.

Re: Who I respect the most on AFF!!
Funny! I was just thinking this morning about all the people on AFF that I have the highest respect for. There are, in fact, only a very few who I would say don't fit into that catagory. VERY few :)
And no, they are not all ultra cons. MOW certainly fits that catagory very well. MichaelPhelps, One Accord, Renda, Sherri, Tamor, HeavenlyOne, SteveHoover, and on and on and on........... Because they know where they've been. And they know where they are now. And they are fine with it. Maybe the past wasn't perfect. But they don't whine about it. They are secure in the belief that they are in the place RIGHT NOW where GOD wants them to be. And that's enough. What brought this about? I am reading a book by the man who started "Give Kids the World", a program at Disney for Make-A-Wish kids. He tells his story in. He was a Jew in WW2 and the atrocities that he suffered make anything that ANY of us go thru look like a cake walk. But he took that suffering and persecution and made it into something positive and wonderful!! So I was thinking that sometimes we, as Christians, whine about how other Christians treated us. We act as if we deserved better. Maybe we did. But why can't we just dig deep and get a good attitude and turn our pasts into a stepping stone for a future where we can be used by God for HIS work? I've seen so many on here do just that. Those are the ones I hold in highest regard! Thanks for being great examples for the rest of us. |
Re: Who I respect the most on AFF!!
I've resisted using names simply because there are some who don't think they fit into some "category." I'm not thinking lib/mod/con, I'm just thinking about folks here in either of those area who fit the "bill" I described.
The truth is that I am immeasurably blessed to be the Sr. Pastor of a church full of people like I described. Not all alike. A few look 50's Pentecostal and some look "wild" but they do co-exist and worship together out of a genuine love for God and each other. It really is uncanny! There have also been those who could not stand the diversity which, in their mind, became adversity and felt to move on. Again, such is life. Really hate it when that happens! It hurts, but God has a way of putting people where they need to be. Just finished a meeting with a "new" lady who really wants to do the right thing in a situation. I didn't condemn her for getting off course and encouraged her to know that that the Biblical "course" was the best possible one for her. Others may have "stoned" her and I probably would have years ago, myself. However, she really just needed the Lord! I've found that when people really get Him, everything is so much easier!!! :D |

LOL! and just FYI, we haven't been Methodists for the past 3 years. We changed to the Swanton Alliance Church at that time. There were more church problems at the Methodist church at that time than we cared to be involved in. That is not what worshipping every Sunday is all about. It's about God, not church politics. So after almost 20 years (for me) and over 50 years for Walt, we pulled out and changed churches. It's been a great move tho. We have no regrets at all. And we still have friends in the Methodist church - people who might not have remained our friends if we had stayed there. |

Re: Who I respect the most on AFF!!
I am a conservative, MOW, and we know that there's really not a lot of us left on this forum. But I have to tell you, as far as respect goes, if I were to name names, the list would be a lot shorter if I were to name the ones I have little respect for. Most of the people on AFF seem to be good respectable people!

There are very few people that I do not respect here. Most of us are all trying our best to be what we can for God. And that I truly respect!

Re: Who I respect the most on AFF!!
My dear Friends, there are so many names I could put here but the hour is late...and I am very tired. Thought I would put a few tidbits...along with scriptures.
"Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king. Servants, be submissive to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the harsh" (1 Peter 2:17-18). "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love" (1 John 4:8; compare 1 John 2:9-11). In Ephesians 4:32 we are told that we are to be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as God forgave us. Kindness of speech is not equal to weakness. Kindness and firmness can easily flow from the same lips and must when truth is at stake. Hebrews 7:7 - "And without question, the person who has the power to give a blessing is greater than the one who is blessed." (NLT) As John tells us, God is love. Love sums up God's character, His motivation, how He lives and how He deals with us. He wants us to show love in all our dealings with others even to those that differ with us. He wants us to show the world His Character. The dictionary says: Kindness is the quality or state of being kind. Being kind speaks of a friendly, generous, or warm-hearted nature, showing sympathy or understanding, being charitable, gentle, sensitive, considerate, forbearing, and tolerant. Kindness also softens the hard and angry hearts of men. “A gentle answer turns away wrath” (Proverbs 15:l). Another scripture I think about is For it is “not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty” (Zechariah 4:6). We humans want to push things down people´s throats...God teaches us it is not that way... So in our quest for respect let us remember to be kind even when we do not see eye to eye. Kindness begets kindness; it is an investment which reaps great dividends. Since our speech reflects what is in our hearts (Matt. 12:34), watchfulness of our speech should improve our conduct. Let each do her part to eliminate backbiting, gossip, and hurtful words from our speech. Let us practice the law of kindness. Someone once asked me if I could respect someone I differ with. My answer was yes. I have 2 close friends that are Jehovah´s Witnesses. I deeply respect them but I do not agree with them. Under no circumstances would I mistreat them yet I would not agree with them...I think there is a way to disagree without killing. I do understand there are some people sadly we have to take different ways however even taking different ways we may have to explain why but we do not have to do it in the wrong spirit. I have parted ways in the wrong spirit and later regretted it...Hind sight is always the best...however.... |
