What situations would lead you to recommend a couple divorce?

rgcraig 01-20-2009 08:56 PM

Re: D-i-v-o-r-c-e

adultery or abuse

However, I don't think anyone should "recommend it"

What constitutes adultery?

What constitutes abuse?

Re: D-i-v-o-r-c-e

If a man or woman lusts after another than their spouse it is adultery.

Abuse can be anything from verbal, emotional, or physical abuse.

However in some cases divorce is not always the right thing to do.

I do think there are situations when a pastor should recommend separation.

I agree.

Re: D-i-v-o-r-c-e

What constitutes adultery? I believe if one partner commits adultery it doesn't mean an instant divorce. If the couples is willing to forgive and not do that anymore, they should be able to stay together.

If one of the parties is unwilling to work it out or doesn't want to give up "the other person", then I believe that other party is free to divorce.

Abuse - - 'nuff said.

Subjective. If this is the criteria then everyone can divorce.

Adultery - when your affections are toward another you are not married to.

Abuse - can be verbal or physical. This would depend on how much a person can take and stay sane.

Re: D-i-v-o-r-c-e

I think the abuse clause is vague.

How is verbal or physical abuse vague? We can all picture what we could take. How about strangulation, kicking, cursing in your face until you feel worthless. Is that better? lol!

:toofunny Or is that funny!

My sister's husband committed adultery and she is wanting to make it work for them. He refuses counseling. I think she is miserable. I feel very sorry for her. Of course, it didn't help that no one in the family has ever liked him. lol

I have recommended separation to people more than once. Sometimes people need some space to see if they are willing to work on a marriage. I HATE DIVORCE, but sometimes it's inevitable.

I'm not sure. I think an emotional affair could be just as/almost intense.

The obsessive compulsive whatever they call it. Everything has to be just so.
I understand the bread being separate from anything heavy. And eggs are so fragile. And some meat packages leak. Other than that what's the problem?

I'm not sure he would fit that. He's very neat, but not obsessive about.

My sister's husband is - He cleans the baseboards while we are visiting - He's just so weird. LOL!

Divorce? I think it would be unfaithfulness (adultery) & vilolence that would be grounds.
