*Sob* *Sob* Movies that make you cry ...

A few weeks ago I saw Seven Pounds starring Will Smith ... with my wife. Not wanting to spoil the surprise ending I will not share the nature of the story but will tell you that I came out of the theater ... BAWLING.

For those that know some of my past you'd probably figure out why.

I was really surprised at myself ... thinking that wound had scarred over ... but all it took was a movie to open it up for at least a while ...

I almost wished I hadn't seen it.

It did give me a reason to buy some pizza after the movie, however.

The first movie I can recall that really made me cry ... and not just tear ... was Beaches. Have any of you seen it ...?

And every time I see the Passion of Christ ... I cry also. Seeing what my Savior must have endured for me ... is reason enough.

What movies make you sob? Why?

Facing the Giants

Especially the scene where they are in the kitchen, and discussing the fact that their whole world has fallen apart. No kids, losing the job, car broken down, house stinks, no money.

Anne of Green Gables

When Matthew dies in the field, and Anne is there to watch him die.

Anne came to Matthew (her adopted daddy) by accident. They had asked the orphanage for a boy, so that Matthew would have help around the farm, but they got Anne instead. They decided to keep Anne cause they came to love her.

I don't know your history, but I can attest to the same thing when my wife and I saw it a few weeks back. I was NOT prepared for that. No wonder they kept the plot very secretive before its release!

Another one was Marley and Me. I had not read the book and was completely unprepared. I am a dog lover, and the owner of an elderly (13 years old) yellow lab myself. Within the last few months, Greta has shown signs of degrading health - she is hard of hearing and has trouble with stairs. The parts at the end were just too real for me and I found myself holding back sobs. Very embarassing and un-macho! :lol

The Notebook.

I actually had a breakdown. I cried so hard I hurt physically. This was before Christ changed me so I wasn't very emotional at the time. My grandmother has Alzheimers and it reminded me so much of her. We spent a lot of time together growing up and I was her favorite grandchild.

I loved her through all her faults and issues and saw the amazing person that she was when much of my family didn't have the patience for her. She was always very imperfect. She told me amazing childhood stories. She taught me to drive when I was 8. She was an artist and I traveled with her during my teenage years. She was a true rebel and cared less what the world or anybody else thought of her. And all those emotions and memories that I had buried during the years of her illness came back like a flood.

She is 86 and in a nursing home. I don't visit her much and she hasn't known who I am for at least 4 years. I may go tonight though. My 3 year old daughter visits, with my mom, and she loves her and that means a lot.

Now, I am a different person and I cry over everything. I am just a baby. But don't tell anyone. :blush

Good thread.

Oh, the Notebook is a given. I cried reading the book and knew what to expect with the movie, but cried again.

I'm not a real cryer either, but there have been movies with relationships in it that make me cry - - or at least get that big ole lump in your throat.

Re: *Sob* *Sob* Movies that make you cry ...

My husband really wanted to see "Benjamin Button", so off we went to see it along with my son..... My husband hated it, said it made him sad....:sad Fast forward to 2 weeks later I convinced him to take me to see "Marley and Me"; I really did not know the plot, but we have a 16 year old Maltese whom we treat like a baby (naturally):dogpat and she is starting to show her age also... My husband cried so hard:tissue, we had to wait till folks left the theater for him to compose himself. He then blamed me for taking him to see "stupid" movies (anything that makes him cry)! So we went last week to see "Mall Cop" and he left laughing.... Thank Goodness, I couldn't handle anymore drama from him!

I guess I wont be seeing seven pounds until it comes out on DVD, don't want to push the ole guy over the edge :sad.

This is a kids movie, but the scene from 2:00 to 3:30 made me cry. It's from the 1994 version of the movie Lassie. The kids have lost their mom, their dad has remarried, they have just been moved from Baltimore to rural Virginia and are completely lost.

This scene captured their loss perfectly. Especially when they put their mom's old music on.

Marley and me caught me by surprise... I felt so bad because this past Oct, we put our elderly dog down... he died in the arms of my 17 year old... she wanted to be there, holding him when they put him down. Later, she sat holding him..sobbing the whole time I dug his grave.... so it was an emotional time for us....still fresh in our minds. I was not prepared for the movie because I hadn't read about it... just people kept telling me it was cute.. My daughter lost it during the scene w/the vet...

I cried, but what kept me from losing it was there was an elderly lady behind me that was sobbing hysterically.... to the point she sounded like she was in a fit of laughter.... I couldn't help but sit there laughing as tears flowed...but it did keep me from bawling..lol

Okay, I will confess. I have seen Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts. She spoke for so many women in that lifestyle and similar circumstances. She spoke of having something more inside of her if someone would only give her a chance or an opportunity to get out.

I balled my eyes out.

Funny how attached we become to our pets. I mean, come on. It's an animal, right?

I had a dog my whole childhood, but my wife had very little experience with a dog. Their only dog growing up was one that was kept chained up in the back yard and she didn't care much for it. Her attachment to our dog took her completely by surprise, but there's no mistaking... Greta is an important part of our family. And when she dies, it will be like losing a loved one. We lost it at the vet scene too. Just too close to home. I wish we would have had an old lady behind us like you did. It might have been enough of a distraction to keep us from losing it.

Yes, believe me, it is. I didn't watch it with anyone, so I didn't have to share the blame. I don't know why I felt so compelled that I had to see that movie. I don't think any movie has ever moved me as much as that one has.

I cried watching, Green Gables, Miss Potter, Red Fern Grows, The Notebook, but I was deeply moved by Pretty Woman.

I suppose it was like a real life Cinderella story. I wanted to help every woman like her.

Okay, if we are naming unusual movies that make us cry - - "Shall We Dance" made me cry.

The wife thought her husband was having an affair and instead he was learning to dance and he comes riding up the elevator in a tux with a rose at her work.........I about lost it. I wanna dance.

I was like your wife, raised without pets. I decided to be different with my kids....we have had at least one cat for the last 10 years (different ones) but Maddie has been the only house dog we've ever had... we've had and lost dogs that lived outdoors....but there is something about those that live every day with you inside the home. He will be missed...

I can't believe how much you can get attached to animals.... I don't care for cats that much, but my oldest loves them...so we adopted BeBe and CeCe... BeBe just didn't work out for us...we found him a home... but CeCe was a keeper... the sweetest and best housecat I've ever seen...no annoying habits... I am attached to that cat... It probably will be difficult when she dies... thankfully she is only 3 years old.

Jaci, the daughter in my avatar (owner of Maddie) said Marley and Me was on her lists of never to see again movies. :angelsad

LOL :nah they were named for some of my favorite singers.. however BeBe thought he could sing... ran his mouth all the time... annoyed me. I like quiet cats. LOL

They were siblings... dark/black with brown markings... just beautiful cats... BeBe was just too high maintence for me... he ended up with longer hair...so with allergies and his whining...he just had to go.
