Marriage/Divorce Poll

The divorce thread got me thinking along the lines of a poll.

Re: Divorce Poll

This should have maybe been named the marriage poll!

ILG 01-22-2009 07:46 AM

Re: Divorce Poll

BTW, this is a private poll so people can't see how you vote! (Don't know for sure about whether admin can see it or not.)

Thanks, whoever changed the name!

How many polls are missing some possible choices? I'd choose something like "Married. Let's just leave it at that." :lol

There were only 7 spaces, unfortunately! Maybe you can pick the closest one!

You could choose "Married and working through regular marriage issues" because if you are married you are definately doing that :winkgrin

Quite a number of people working through adultery issues! Sometimes I think the unspoken things people are working through make them feel very alone when it is not as uncommon as it seems. I think in the church people are so afraid to speak of what they are battling.

I think people that are working through these type of issues feel as if no one would understand and I'm sure they feel alone. I haven't had to work through adultery issues but other issues that could have the same effect. Most people expect church folks to be above some of these issues and therefore, it is easier to keep things to oneself (in ones mind anyway). I think it is more damaging not to reach our for help.

Re: Marriage/Divorce Poll

I think that there might be a bit of regret and embarassment when the problem becomes vocalized. I have known people with issues they are working in the relationship, but the way to work it out was to not even talk about it. Like they would never talk about it. So they figured don't talk about it then it never happened. No one is perfect and anyone on this board could fall into something.

MrsMcD, you are right when you say that non churched people think that church people to be above these issues...you are very wise. I believe that if I went through something like this I would be more embarassed than anything.

Also someone might think that one thing is considered cheating and another thing isn't. Like the Bill Clinton thing...what is the meaning of the word "is"? Someone might feel talking to a person of the opposite sex is cheating and another might think that you haven't cheated until it becomes a fully sexual thing.

Talking to a member of the opposite sex is not cheating, plain and simple although you could probably be stoned as a woman in a muslim country for doing so. I think Bill Clinton cheated.

I would not discuss my marriage on an internet forum. Good or bad.

Aww c'mon. Nothing bad has ever happened because of discussing personal business online. :)

I think people such as this have inferiority issues. I couldn't imagine being married to someone like that.

I think my problem is I'm too soft to be head of the house

I think my mom put it as , "too nice for your own good"... lol.

Is it telling when your own mother ask you; "who is wearing the pants in your house"?

It is like the difference between someone who is humble and someone who knows they are humble.

I think when a person feels the need to discuss their marriage on an internet forum, they are probably pretty much in trouble. However, a person can feel so trapped in their situation that they will reach out to wherever they think they can find help. Women like to talk to get their problems solved and that is their nature. So, that is why sometimes we find women in a forum setting voicing their personal troubles. It is not only women, I know that, but a big majority is. For a man to admit on a forum he has a problematic marriage takes a lot. IMHO

The preacher said "All the men who are the head of the house, raise your hands!"

I asked my wife if I should raise my hand. She said "yes!" So I did!

By "regular issues" are we to understand the "issue" of the shoe boxes that overflow from her side and fill my side of the closet? :foottap

Or should I have chosen the "addiction" selection?
