Yamaha V-Max use to be the fastest production bike

Maple Leaf asked me this question in another thread. PM isn't working for some reason so I wanted to make sure he got it.

I had a 1985, and it was the fastest production machine in 1985. The V-Max is very realible, and you will find that it will hold its value (as long as you don't dump it). Make sure that you look under the rear fender to see if the current owner has tried to burn out (smoke) the rear wheel. By looking under the rear fender you can see rubber stuck to the fender's underside. If that is the case, then you might want to reconsider making the purchase. Check for oil seepage around the rear cylinder heads, that is another indicator of owner abuse. Listen for any top end noise, and make sure the V-Max shifts through all gears smoothly. Yamaha V-Max transmissions should not clunk or be hard shifting, that only indicates that you will have future issues.

If you buy a V-Max avoid installing nitrous bottle, the motorcycle doesn't need it, and you would be better served by installing an after market pipe. Make sure you feel comfortable on the machine and that while in the seated position you are flat footed. V-Max center of gravity is high, and you need to feel comfortable when seated and stopping. Riding is one thing, but stopping is another.

Enjoy the ride. :thumbsup

Thanks for the info.

I read it on the earlier thread.

I took a look at the V Max, including the underside of the rear fender. :lol

I didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

Right now, the reworked 2008 Kawasaki KLR650 is making my heart go pitter patter.

I found one at a steal of a deal. (You'd be surprised at what -20 temperatures does for the prices of motorcycles.)

Thanks again.

Ok, I just have one question.... How much? (My wife is dying to get another bike.)

Nothing of importance to add to the topic (it's been over 3 decades since I've been on a motorcycle), but this reminds me of a video. Which you've all probably seen. But I don't care. Here it is:

If I had $25k to spend, i'd buy one of these and set it in my livingroom just to look at. (I'd be lonely if I did that, but I'd have the coolest bike of anyone in the geezer riders club)

2009 V MAX is a totally new bike, it is nothing like the earlier V MAX.

Have you looked at the Harley V ROD?

It's been 13 or 14 years since I've owned a Bike.

I had a Yamaha FZR600 back in the day.

My fiance wants me to get a bike(would be great on gas) but I do believe my motorcycle days are behind me.

It's a pretty nice machine, it looks way better than the Suzuki B-King

Yamaha FZR 600 was a nice bike, I had a FZR 400 that I converted for road racing.

Your welcome.

If you like the 2008 Kawasaki KLR650, you would love the 2009 BMW :heart F800GS.

Not if you're going to Heaven they're not.

The Lord rides on a Swift Cloud.

I'm not certain, but I think that's an Indian motorcycle.

After three months of travelling in a cage, I'd be glad for the chance to go for a ride on my 1976 Puch moped.

And don't forget old Joshua will be there, too. His Triumph was heard throughout the land.

Re: Yamaha V-Max use to be the fastest production

I have been following the production of this Kawasaki KLR650 diesel.
NATO wanted all military equipment to use the same type fuel, so all military motorcycles had to become diesel. Hence the creation of this beautiful Kawasaki KLR650.

FZR 400 was nice. I think it had an aluminum frame, unlike mine.

Yes it did, I polished mine, and the frame on my 1985 GSXR750.

Another good motorcycle, and a lot of fun to ride.
