"'Filthy, Putrid" Substance On Peanuts

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/...n4763753.shtml

"Weeks before the earliest signs of a national salmonella outbreak that now has been traced to peanuts from a Georgia processing plant, peanuts exported by the same company were found to be contaminated and were returned to the United States, The Associated Press has learned."

"...The chopped peanuts from Peanut Corp. of America in Blakely, Georgia, were prevented by the FDA from being allowed back into the United States in mid-September because the peanuts contained an unspecified “filthy, putrid or decomposed substance, or is otherwise unfit for food,” according to an FDA report of the incident.

Sadly, this is the commercial use peanut butter; schools, hospitals, nursing homes

Now many will avoid peanuts and peanut butter and it is a good source for protein.

No integity is there? The Georgia company supposedly knew of problems but shipped it out anyway.

If they knowingly sold contaminated food. They should face criminal charges.

I do not trust the FDA.

It seems every year they choose something that supposely causes samonella outbreaks. Last year they said it was tomatoes and eventually admitted it wasn't tomates. That cost a lot of farmers their crops for no good reason.

Year before that I think they targeted spinanch. That may or may not have been the truth.

Now they have peanuts they found and didn't follow through on correctly. No record of testing. Makes you wonder, based on their previous history.

Some companies pulled products off the shelves. I don't remember seeing a list.

Not necessarily - Austin Crackers are made with peanut butter from this company. Kellogg owns Austin, and consequently, pulled those, some Famous Amos peanut butter cookies, and some Keebler cookies off the shelves.
