Funny, but what is wrong with Coffee. My dad has been teaching Sunday school for twenty years and half the church would stop by his class for the coffee. :ursofunny

OK, I'll comment.
From 1992 until 2006 I went to a Vineyard Church in the Greater Cincinnati area. At that time they had 2-3 thousand people each weekend. Worship music was "contemporary." The speaker and worship team dressed casually. Coffee was available and was free. Services lasted barely over one hour and the sermon took up about half of that time. An opportunity was given for folks to come to the front to receive prayer after each service. People were available at the front of the church to pray with anyone who wanted prayer. Some times the "seeker sensitive" and "outward focused" thing got to be a little "much" but people were helped and lives were changed. I was involved with the church. I was available to pray with folks after service as part of the Celebration Prayer Team. I was there on Monday nights to pray with people when we had our Growth and Healing classes and groups. I did outreach on Saturdays. For 5 years I was a POC (Pastor On Call). As a POC I carried a beeper for one 24 hour day per week and one 48 hour weekend per month and was responsible for responding to any call/situation that came in during that period. I left that church in the spring of 2006. There were no problems or hard feelings. I'm still part of their "Home and Hospital Visitation Team" and have even done a funeral for them since leaving there because someone requested me. The pastor who is in charge of the POC team has let me know that I would be welcome back as a member of that team if I want to come. I left because I wanted to be part of a church that was "smaller and more Pentecostal." Those were the words I had been using. I had been clear about that for some time before leaving so it was not a surprise when I did leave. |

Re: Real Preachers of Genius!! A MUST WATCH!!
GUESS WHAT??? You CAN wear Hawaiian shirts and have a coffee bar and still have a major move of God! We have it all the time. God doesn't care what you're wearing as long as you're modest and neat. We don't have coffee in the sanctuary, but we do have a very cool coffee bar in the lobby.
We also just finished a 21 day church fast, and a 24 hour prayer chain is finishing up at 6 pm tonight. I don't think you can say all big churches that are casual and have a coffee bar should be linked into one big "selfish" pile. We are all about the presence of God and changing lives. God has been very good to us! |

That is a cool video! lololol

Re: Real Preachers of Genius!! A MUST WATCH!!
I liked the video. If you watched some of the others below I think you could sort of see the point. For example, the one that touted the smoking room because they didn't want smokers to feel ostracized. In other words, how far are churches going to go to make sure people don't feel uncomfortable. At least that was my take after watching a few.

I thought the video was fun, myself.
I don't know who made it so I don't have any bias... who's to say it was made by an Ultra-Con? We have a coffee machine and some little tables with white folding chairs set up in the lobby before each service for fellowshipping beforehand... it hasn't taken away from our services in the least... no coffee is being sipped during the service. I thought the video was humorous. May Hawaiian shirts die a quick and painless death... |
