Have You Lost Your Job?

This is a poll as to how the recession has affected the people of AFF.

I would be interested in details for those who have lost their jobs or are concerned if you care to share!

Jeff hasn't lost his job (the salaried one), but their profits are down 40%, and they are laying people off to compensate.

Can you share what type of business he's in?

I haven't lost mine.... yet. I didn't vote that I was concerned, though. I know a God who sees the end from the beginning and He holds me in His hands. If I do lose my job, He already knows and has a way of escape already prepared for me.

Well, saying you are concerned you might lose your job to my mind simply means you are concerned about losing your job not that you don't have faith for a new one! I am just trying to get a feel for job security.

I understand what you mean. And since I work for a company (Bridgestone) that depends in a large part on the auto manufacturing industry, there's always that concern. I just choose not to think too long or deeply on it. For my own state of mind, I'm choosing to trust that if that day does come, God knew it beforehand and, since I'm His and He is mine, He'll take care of us somehow.

I sure wasn't meaning to sound disrespectful or condescending; I hope I didn't offend. This is a very trying time - especially when we're coming off of a time of such (perceived) prosperity and greed, a lot of people are hearing the wake-up call.

The company he works for makes gauges for various applications, including the oil and gas industry. So when oil and gas profits go down, it directly affects their profits as well. I believe he told me that when gas prices go below 1.63/gallon or so they start losing money (in that area).

So that, coupled with overall economy woes, has reduced their profit by a very LARGE margin. Some of the people are being laid off and then rehired through temp agencies at a lower salary or wage.

Jeff is over a couple of different areas, so I think his job is safe for now, but a couple of his fellow engineers (one of them an intern) were laid off a couple of weeks ago. We're not taking anything for granted, and we've seriously cut down our spending in the meantime.

No, I didn't think you sounded disrespectful at all. I am just hoping people will vote concern if they feel it. I understand having the faith that God will pull you through in spite of feeling concerned. But, I want the poll numbers to reflect whether people are concerned or not.

I agree that people have been living very high for a very long time. It is past time to wake up.

Yeppers, I lost my job.
I heard that they are trying to get the girl underneath myself to do the job, but she is stressed!

She also makes about 6 bucks an hour less!

Yes, that's a good idea. Thanks for sharing.

My husband is a supervisor in a medical center. They are in a hiring freeze but are not laying anybody off and hopefully won't. Health care is usually pretty stable.

Library circulation has been up so my job seems safe too. People don't want to spend money on books and videos.

I agree...saying that I am concerned does not mean I don't have faith. In this global economic crisis nothing is certain.

My prayer is that God will keep me where I am. It is convenient for me...it's just 15 minutes from my home, where if my mother needed me I could be right there.

That and the fact I have been there 6 years and know the job well...at 57 I just don't want to have to drive a long distance or start over.

I can't blame you for that, Barb.

IF I were to loose my job I at least have some self employment options that I can fall back on.

I voted yes, but it was my husband that lost his job. Still looking, with few prospects, but God has always taken care of us and He will continue to.

Usually. But my friend is a pediatrician. ProMedica closed her entire office here in Swanton. It consisted of her (peds), a family practice doc, and 2 nurse practisioner (spelling???). So she went looking for a job. She's my age (53) so it was pretty scary. She had two offers. The one she went with is doing ok right now. But the other one announced a few weeks ago that they are closing up completely now too! Who would have thought!!

Eeks! Actually at my husband's work, the word layoffs was spoken today.....

I don't think that means they are going to, it's just an if thing.
