Newer cell phones/PDAs - give me the scoop!

I am looking to update our cell phones to make texting and internet access easier.

Tell me about your phone and what you have /like and dislike.

Iphone, Blackberry, Sony? Why should I buy?

I have a blackberry pearl (indigo-- it's pretty!)
I like it, I can check email, search the 'net, and check facebook, text... and I even occasionally get phone calls

This is my third blackberry, I am addicted. Love the full keyboard, getting my email as soon as they hit my account. My son has a sidekick which has a flip out screen and the full keyoard. The only thing that I am not sold on is internet access.

I have the LG Scoop. It's ok for texting, but I don't have access to the internet turned on on it, so I can't help you with that.

Personally, I'm not going to replace it soon, but I also wouldn't rush to recommend it to someone.

I have a Rant. I love the pull-out QWERTY keyboard!

I had permission to get a blackberry bold, but I thought it was too much phone for me, so I picked the Samsung Epix.

It has most of the same perks, including a full Qwerty keyboard, touchscreen/stylus, internet browser, etc. It also has Office Mobile, which allows me to transfer office files to my phone, edit & view them, or create new ones.

Let's see...fairly good camera, a memory card slot, bluetooth, and a spot for headphones. Easy to use texting, and mobile email apps.

I'm totally lovin' my phone!!!!

Kewl. How often do you post here from your phone? Do you create documents very often? If you care to share - what kind of a plan are you on and with who?

I don't climb down chimneys but I keep mine on me while running a baseball practice. Keep it snapped on my belt.

Blackberry Curve -- love it ! Can't wait to step up to the new 3g Blackberry...because of different sites I host I have about 4 very active e-mails..all are on my BB, makes it soooo easy to communicate. Not much it can't do. Internet is awesome. I dont envy you, you have a tough decision ahead ..

I used to carry my Red Blackberry Pearl in my pocket... Until it took a toilet bath on New Year's Eve day....

We are updating in a month or two, but haven't decided which phone to buy. We really just need it for talking and texting, not for emailing or any extras. But will not be buying an ILG again.

Well, THAT post was from my phone!!! ;)

I use Office OneNote quite a bit. I can download and open Word & Excel documents from my email, so that's very convenient. Office Mobile was the main selling point for me, because I like the full keyboard that Blackberry Bold has (among others), I didn't want a slide-out or flip phone, and I don't like the iPhone touch screen keyboard. The Epix has the perks of the Blackberry, but it's smaller, less expensive, and has OM.

It also can double as an mp3 player with a memory card and earplugs.

We have ATT, and I have the unlimited data plan (Jeff does, too--he has an iPhone). I think we have family rollover minutes or something, but Jeff handles all that so I'm not sure on the specifics. My mom has her phone on the same plan as us, and all in all it runs about $215 a month for all three phones, ins., unlimited long distance, and the data plans. (Oh, our internet and land line is bundled into the same pkg.) I think that's pretty reasonable, and it's easy to cut back to the bare bones if our budget demands it.

I like ATT. We've been with them for a long time.

I will be really sad when I have to replace/upgrade this phone. That's how much I like it!!!! :thumbsup

I REALLY liked the Blackberry Bold that I looked at, but it just seemed like such a big, masculine phone!!!!

I have a bad track record with my phones, too, so I didn't want to fork out so much money even though Jeff told me I could--and he made sure to insure the one I finally chose. :toofunny

I dropped one in a toilet, and lost another one. This time my husband decided we needed the insurance. :D

I have an Iphone- but I want a blackberry instead...which irritates my husband...lol... he loves his iphone...

I hate the fingerprints...it just seems like my phone is always dirty...

Also, it is a pain to text on...(however, using a number pad has to be worse).. I want a blackberry pretty much for the little keyboard and less 'screen touching'...

Honestly, my husband loves his though...he even upgraded both of us as soon as the new one came out... He thinks I am crazy to switch...but I am going to soon!

We both carry the data, etc. packages from AT& T- as well as our two additional phones for our business. We have never had any problems with AT&T...

I may consider it.

Seriously why is it acceptable for females and not males? I carried a thick leather planner for a few years... got some funny looks.

I must have a well built phone case that graps the belt and won't let go.

I have looked at the Epix and the two different Blackberries at the local AT&T store.

I was thinking the epix was a Sony product

I have a LG Shine....the battery life if horrible...other than that, it works for me...but I am not on the phone that much...average texter..and really no need for a blackberry or anything like that.

Re: Newer cell phones - give me the scoop!

I ordered the Samsung Epix. The reason I went with that one over the Blackberry Curve was the built in Wi Fi and the keyboard on both the pad and the screen. I would have needed to go with the new Blackberry Bold to get Wi Fi and would have cost me a couple hundred more. I understand the Wi Fi allows faster browsing and e-mail (when a connection is available)

Also, I did not like the feel of the keypad on the Bold - no spacing.

I looked at the Vue and the iPhone as well - don't like the touchscreen only option for the keyboard.

The only phone that I have ever gotten excited about is the google phone. I don't care much about most of the new gadgets and rarely spend extra money unless I'm going to make or save extra money. My BIL has a google phone and it has an application that allows you to walk into a store and scan the barcode on just about any product. The phone will tell you how much that product costs in the surrounding stores and how much you can get it for online. He saved my father $120 on one purchase of tires and a lot of money on batteries as well. I will probably get one because I do quite a bit of purchasing for the church. They only cost $179 last I checked (with two years of service).

The Bold is not bigger than the Epix... they are about the same.

Corner to corner the Epix is slightly bigger actually - because it has square corners. The bold is slightly thicker.

I am getting a Bold case for the Epix because they have a better belt clip.

Thanx for helping me choose folks! If this does not work out I will be send you all bills!

There should be no reason you can't do that with any PDA - though it would not scan.

Well, I don't know...it seemed heavier, and I couldn't wrap my hand around it quite as comfortably as the Epix. Look at them side by side in the store, and you'll see what I mean.

So did you decide to go with the Epix? If so, I think you'll really like it!

Btw, they don't have custom screen protectors (or didn't when I bought mine), but I used one of my husband's iPhone screen protectors and just cut it to fit.

It has a pretty good camera, too.

Here are a couple of pictures taken with my phone:

Yeah, but it was the fact that I can just walk in and scan it and get the info instantly that I liked. I believe that the phone is always online and knows where you are so it can tell you instantly what it costs around you and how far away the other locations are.

Yes i bought (ordered) the Epix. The Bold IS heavier - not so much bigger though.
