How did you propose marriage?
There is a thread discussing people proposing marriage in church and it got me thinking..............
How did all of you propose marriage to your spouse? Or how did your spouse propose to you? If we have already discussed this here, I apologize. Admin, if there is, feel free to delete this one :) |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
I just woke up one day with stitches and an ache in my side. There was this chica there who I'd never seen before telling me she didn't like my curtains.
"My curtains?!?" What's the point of them being my curtains if any old help-meet can waltz into the den and start rearranging things? Nothing's been the same since. Not even the animals will talk to me anymore. http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com...cons/icon9.gif |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
I said "You wanna go get a rang ?"
She said " Sure" Then I got her to the courthouse before she could sober up . |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
You all are about as romantic as Walt was. We were laying on the floor watching TV one day and Walt pipes up with, "So everybody is assuming we're gonna get married anyway. Why don't we just go ahead and make it official. What do you think about that?"
Duh! :foottap Ok, so it was a start. I've learned the boy better since then! He's such a gentleman. But without a romantic bone in his body. Geesh! LOL |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
I took my girlfriend out to eat a a great Japenese Steak House and then got down on one knee, pulled out the box with the ring in it, and asked her to marry me.
That was Valentines day 1980. |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
I called up my then-fiance and asked her "Ok, I'm at the jeweler. What type of ring did you want again?"
Serious. We both met, dated (very briefly) and started planning the Vegas wedding without ANY official proposal. It just sort of "happened". |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
My wife and I were coming back from Olive Garden on New yrs. eve. Early in the morning that day she had just gotten news that her sister had committed suicide. Not a good day. My wife is from Indiana and I'm from Michigan. We live right next to the stateline. As we were coming home from the resteraunt I stopped the car on stateline road, it was kind of secluded. She had no idea why I stopped, she later said she thought I was going to go to the bathroom. Anyways... I told her to get out and stand over there on the Indiana side and I stayed on the Michigan side of the road. I asked her if she wouldn't mind leaving IN. and coming to MI. indefinately. I said come over to MI. and marry me.. she said yes and we did.:kiss

New Year's Eve 2004/2005 at the stroke of midnight, at the table of an RV that I was living in, with firecrackers going off, I proposed.

(the rest of the story...I had purchased some property close by and had to wait a couple of weeks until it was ready :D) I think I had 4 dollars to my name when we married...literally. Things are much better now that I'm out of college! :D |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
I rented (sort of - a friend owned it and sailed it for us) a 40 ft yacht and took Kristin out on the lake. I had prepared a picnic dinner complete with NA bubbly and hid the ring in my sock - so she would not find it.
I had our favorite easy listening station on and at the perfect time "our song" came on - Sunshine on My Shoulders http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eivZd4j5MBs. She broke her curfew that night... |

We visited Milw to visit a pastor friend of my dad. A church he preached at some 50 times in the mid 1970's. My father passed away in 1978 so the pastor Frank Tamel invited us to visit. When we arrived at the pastor's house after a long drive from Cincinnati to Milwaukee. I met who today is one of my closest friends. I spent the next few nights at their house. He showed me picture of a girl who at the time was 14, I was 15. It was really kind of weird when I looked at her picture. I will look to post it before this thread moves on. He told me she did not have a boyfriend, but was a very sweet girl. I took from what he shared with me that he liked her... So I was introduced to her, at that watch night service, by her brother Mike Taylor. She walked up to me with a gray dress and perfect hair. She put out her hand first and with a shy voice said, "Hi I am Ann Taylor". I then said, "I am Nathan Eckstadt". It seemed like everyone in the building was looking at me. In reality no one was watching us. I then called her a few times on the phone over the next couple of months. We visited again in Feb 1980 and I spent a few hours talking with her. So then we moved to Milw and I went to the church school. It was then over the next few years we spent time with mutual friends. I just continued to think about her over those years. She then went off to JCM in the fall of 1984. She then went to live with her brother in Maryland in the summer of 85. She came back to visit that summer and she came by the church on a Saturday morning. Where I was playing on one of the church softball teams. She walked over to me and asked how I was doing? I asked if she wanted to get something to eat later that night? She said yes and we went out and spent the evening together. She then came back in October and we went out once again. She moved back around Christmas of 85. We went out again on Feb 14th 1986. On night while sitting at a Pizza hut, I made a comment in passing. I said something like this in response to a comment she made, "I think it would be cool to be married to you"! We continued to talk for another 30 minutes or so. As we walked to the car, we looked at each other and that was the moment of the kiss! (Still brings back a great memory). We got into the car and she slid over next to me. Before all the laws in this country, remember the bench seat in cars? She whispered in my ear, "Yes"! I looked at her and said, "yes to what"? She said, "yes"! I will marry you! I just looked at her for a long while, then responded "Are you serious"? She said, "yes"! So we went back to her house and talked to her mom. Her dad worked 2nd shift and did not get home until after midnight. I think half the wedding was planned that night. When I got home at 3:AM, I got in trouble for being out so late. Until I told my mom and then we stayed up until 5... I then hid my wife's wedding ring, with the help of her mom in her bedroom. I gave it to her at Easter time. She was so mad that it was in her room all along! We dated offically for 5 weeks before our engagement. We knew each other for 6 years. We got married Dec 27th, 1986. It has been a great 22 year run... Sorry for the long story. http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t...nnEckstadt.jpg |

Re: How did you propose marriage?
Eddie and I just kind of grew into engagement, I guess. We had just started talking about being together forever, and then we decided to go look at rings, and that was it. He did have to call my dad and ask permission though (Eddie was only 18).

Re: How did you propose marriage?
I had a big plan in mind for later on down the road, but it didn't happen that way....
Ended up after coming out of an Applebee's after eating, sitting in the truck in the parking lot, and after a lot of silent prayers asking God if that was what I should do and nervous laughter finally popping the question. And no, I'm not married, the engagement broke up later on, thank God! I should have done a lot more of the silent praying up front apparently! Thank God that he is merciful to the ignorant. |
Re: How did you propose marriage?
I just remember the pastor telling us we were living in sin and should make it right. We got married quickly with no relatives present.

Re: How did you propose marriage?
My wife and I were high school sweethearts. Started dating as Freshmen. After I got back from Basic Training I had brought up the possibility of us getting married and she seemed positive about it. So I sat on it for a while to see if I really wanted to get married. We didn't have any money for anything fancy. Nor did we attend a church that even believed in rings. But one day I became determined to ask her. I couldn't let another day pass. So we were out and stopped at Best Buy. Before leaving the parking lot I stopped and put the car into park and said, "I can't wait another day." She said, "What's the matter?" I turned and looked at her and asked, "Tara, will you marry me?" She looked at me like I was crazy. And then she smiled and said, "That's a big decision. I want to think about it." So we left and went to Taco Bell. After eating we got back into the car and I started the engine. As I turned the radio on she said, "Yes." I turned the radio off and then turned and looked at her and said, "What?" Again, she said, "Yes." I started shaking and said, "Really?!" She laughed, about to cry, and said, "Yes! Yes, I'll marry you." I then put the car in reverse and pulled out of the parking space...and I immediately slammed into a brand new mini van causing over $1,100 in damage.
