Favor of God!

I feel like I really experienced the divine favor of God today. We have been going back & forth for weeks about this upcoming trip to Kenya. It's been on and off a few times now, depending on who is wanting to go, who has backed out, who doesn't have the funds, etc. I had decided we just weren't going to get to go until 2010.

Well, Eddie really felt like God spoke to him this week to go, so I booked tickets today for us and two of our staff pastors/musicians. Here's the weird part. I just looked on Northwest's website. The exact same tickets I booked this morning have been re-classified and are now $5,600 more (for four people)!!! I feel like God worked it out for us just in time to get the flights we want at a great price. In fact, I paid less than we have paid since 2005.

God is good!

Thanks! Please be praying for us; we go in 3-1/2 months. I'm very excited, as Kenya is just about my favorite place on earth.

Have you ever gone to Tahiti Hills? We went to Kenya once and that was even better than the capital.

Hmmm.....no, I don't even know where that is! Do you know what part of Kenya it's in?

Is there a particular mission you visit while there?

We have 37 churches in Kenya & Uganda that are "Love and Truth" Churches. We go to train pastors and their wives. Usually we have about 200 pastors from western Kenya/eastern Uganda that attend the conferences. Then we usually do the Sunday service at our Bishop's church in Bukempe.

The picture in my avatar is actually our church in Bukempe - two little boys were peeking out at the funny-looking "wazungu" (white people). The children are SO cute!

I was a kid when we went. All I remember is that there were a lot of neat safari type things to do and see. (I may even be off on the exact name though).

I googled it and came up empty. Maybe the name has even changed since then.

We're not taking the time to do a big safari this year, since Eddie can't be gone really long in the middle of a buidling project. So we are just doing a one day game drive in Nakuru Park on the way back east toward Nairobi from the pastor's conference on the west side. The two staff pastors going with us have never been, so I at least want them to experience a small safari. Also, there are about 2 million pink flamingos on Nakuru Lake, which is just an amazing sight to behold!

That sounds interesting. It's good to hear that you all are in a building project as well. I strongly recommend that when possible, people do travel to these sorts of places. I went as a child and it is one of the experiences I will always take with me. I've been very much a fan of nature ever since that trip.
We got to see animals in their habitation, eat some exotic meals, etc...

Well, we just signed the papers, which was a huge decision in this present economy, but we felt the "go ahead" from the Lord. So far, we have been able to pay cash for all the site work, and the new parking. It would be great if we could pay cash for the whole thing, but just in case...........the bank has approved our loan! We will start with digging footings (?) and pouring the slab within the next few months.

That is great. I will be praying. We are in the process as well. We have a company in and running our capital campaign. We do know that it is a big step now, especially with the economy, but we have to make a move. It is a particularly big move since we are currently completely debt free. We won't allow ourselves to go too far into debt though.
It's exciting and I hope to be able to visit you all sometime.

I believe you may have a duffle bag that I can fit into and thus avoid paying airfare. Just make sure I get a few water bottles and a flashlight so I can read the inflight magazine.

But seriously, have a great trip!

Well, the org went right on without us, without even blinking. How 'bout that?

We did meet with 3 UPC missionary couples while we were in Kenya last year - just catching up, eating and visiting and having a great time. Does that count?????

If I could stuff you in there, I would!

We are taking four extra pieces of luggage full of gifts and clothing for the Love & Truth pastors & their families. They are all so poor, but so very loving and humble. I wish everyone could go at least once.

Actually it's by Tecklemariam Gezehagne who used to be UPC, but they disfellowshipped him I think over some strange doctrine.

What strange doctrine was that? Did it have any thing to do with salvation?:heart:heart

I think is was the Divine Flesh doctrine, but I could be mistaken. There are a lot of people on here who could tell you for sure. Personally, from everything I've heard, I think he's done a tremendous job in Ethiopia. But I don't really know how he believes; all I know is what I've heard.

Yes, it was the Divine Flesh doctrine issue. It was discussed at the '03 GC...the UPC lost a great man of God that day...sad.

From what I understand.........they believe that Jesus was not from the actually flesh lineage of Mary, but that He was a divine creation by God inserted into Mary's womb. Does that make sense?

im not sure if that makes sense.I wonder where they got that idea? God used Mary to robe himself in flesh other wise he would not have told the woman Mary not to touch him when he rose from the grave because he had not ascended yet.which means something about his flesh not being changed?:heart:heart

If brother Tecklemariam believed that, would that cause him to go to hell? Does this idea have any thing to do with salvation?

to best understand his views and beliefs...you should probably read his book concerning this doctrine.

Eddie will be preaching at her church around the middle of April. I hope she's there! I won't be with him on this trip, because he's coming from board meetings at another church.
