Road Rage causes death...

Friday evening as we were traveling from Silsbee, TX where Steadfast pastors, my husbands cell phone rang. He looked at the caller id and said, "Faye. Why is she calling me?" He answered and was met with this story from my Mom.

"John I need ya'll to pray for Barbara and Donna and her husband and baby. they have been in an accident and all I know is that Donna called your aunt Mary and said,"Aunt Mary, we have been in a bad car wreck. I am in a ditch and I can't find my Momma."

My Mom then says "can ya'll pray right now for them, that's all I know."

Barbara is my Mother's baby sister (she is one of 12 children)
Donna is my aunt Barbars youngest daughter
Paul is Donna's husband
(I'm terrible, I can't think of the baby's name)

Anyway, my aunt went to them and when she got there she was screaming into the phone, "Oh my God....there is no top on the van and the hood is gone.....!!!!!"

What happened was my aunt was driving the van on Loop 289 in Lubbock Texas and evidentally she wasn't driving fast enough for this 25 year old Spanish man and he took exception to her driving and passed her and while passing her, he flipped her off. Well, being my family, you just don't do that without it being returned and they all flipped him off back..(not good English, but oh well)

Anyway, this made him really mad and he started ramming her van with his SUV and rammed her until she lost control of the van and rolled it and then caused it to flip end over end 3 times causing my cousin and her husband to be ejected from the van (no they were not wearing seatbelts, only the baby was strapped into a car seat).

My aunt was partially ejected and had to be cut out with the jaws of life. Donna was thrown out of the van and while being thrown out, it somehow ripped off her jean and she was thrown along the road causing road rash so bad she had to be put in the burn unit of the hospital. It also broke her pelvis in 2 places, broke her thumb and writst and mangled her ankle.

Paul was thrown from the vehicle causing severe head, chest and liver injuries, which he never recovered from. He died Saturday morning. He was completely brain dead when they got him to the hospital.

My aunt had a severely broken arm. They did surgery to put rods and plates in her arm and put a drain in her head because she ripped her head open from her eyebrows all the was back to her neck and shoulders.

Oh, I remember the baby's name..Landen. He was unharmed!!!! He was sent home with my aunt Mary.

They had to put her on a respirator and havent' been successful in getting her off of it. She's breathing on her own, but she fights them so horribly when they wean her off and try to take it out that they are afraid they will cause damage to her.

All of this said to say....please be careful while driving a vehicle, you never know what kind of idiot you are driving beside, behind, or in front of.

Also, please pray for my family.. they are worried that my aunt may not be "ok". Also, Donna is really mad at God. They do not go to church, although they know who He is and what He can do, they are a pretty wild bunch (drugs, alcohol, all types of things) THEY NEED GOD!!!!!

Well, the only good that could come of something so sad would be if they turn to God for help and strength. Hopefully they will realize how close they came to eternity.

I agree.

It sounds based on what was told (and I also have to guess) that both sides were equally at fault for the whole incident. But often spiritual things happen when people are at their lowest points in their lives.

Ok not just because this is my family, but how did you get that they were EQUALLY at fault for the accident? He flipped them off, they flipped him off and he rammed them til they lost control of a vehicle....hello?

It just sounded liked there might have been a little road rage on both sides (based on nothing but reading between the lines and extrapolation of how you described your own family). By the way, how is the guy who initiated the ramming?

It's sad what set's people off. I was driving someplace and there was a car in one lane going slower than what I wanted to go, so I passed in the other lane.

That set the guy off! I pulled up next to me at the light and was cussing and trying to get me to pull over for a fight.

LCS,

I will be praying for all involved.

I am hoping they caught this idiot that caused them to crash and have him off the roads? Hopefully he will spend many, many years in jail where he can be ministered to by a Spanish jail ministry, come to the Lord and STILL serve many, many years in prison.

I would not be surprised if he does not end up being an illegal alien on top of everything else.

LCS, I am sorry for your loss. Praying for your family.

Did they catch the guy who ran them off the road?

This story reinforces why I don't respond to idiots on the road with gestures, yelling, horn, etc.

You never know what kind of drug addled or drunk or psycho person you are dealing with who will try to kill you at the least provocation.

I remember seeing a news magazine show a couple of years ago about a regular housewife / mom in Alabama or Arkansas who got mad at another woman motorist and in a fit of road rage ran her off a highway and killed her. Ruined both family's lives. I just can't imagine traffic making me that angry.

I agree!

Some folks are just waiting for an opportunity to show their temper. I just look at folks and smile. :D:D

Re: Road Rage causes death...

I was heading to Chicago two weekends ago and was going quite fast (yes, a shock to those who know me!) and there were a few other vehicles who were traveling with me.

The lead car was a Rav4 with a young girl in it (I don't mind someone else being the lead car....most of the time!) and the four cars were traveling well together. But there was a problem with the lead car....when there was a cop traveling in the southbound lane, she'd slam on her brakes. I'm thinking, HELLO!! If he was clocking you, he'd have you already, considering that the cop was RIGHT THERE!!

So I'd pass her as would the other vehicles, but soon she'd be back in the lead. Not a problem...except she did that same thing again...twice. Now, I'm not one who flips people off or anything, but I told my daughter, who has her permit, to NEVER slam on her brakes on the interstate just because she sees a cop.

After the third or fourth time, this chick passes me on the right, and my daughter informs me that she gave me 'the finger'. I start laughing because if anyone deserved that, it would be her. So I told my daughter that if I passed her again, I'd blow her kisses cause that would probably tick her off more than my reciprocation of the finger.

Sadly, that opportunity never came. I had to exit after drinking too much coffee, but told my daughter that if I later saw her pulled over, I'd slow down, wave, honk, and throw confetti!

I never saw her pulled over, but one of the cars traveling with us was!

LCS, sorry to hear this about your family. I hope that when all is said and done, he serves time and healings take place.

I'm sorry for your relative's accident. So many dangerous, angry people on the roads!

I had a guy riding my bumper trying to force me over the speed limit a couple of months ago. I refused to cooperate. I never speed because if I do anything wrong I always get caught. Sooooo, I obey the law and if I do something wrong I tell on myself - because I know I'll probably get caught anyway. LOL!

He pulled up beside me and I turned my head and stuck my tongue out at him! :toofunny

When he pulled ahead of me I burst out laughing. I don't think I've done that since I was a child. :toofunny

I had a couple of guys trying to race me when I was driving to San Antonio in my Camero. I was 21 years old. I had just bought a .38 in Houston. I told my sister to hand me the gun I had under the passengers seat. It wasn't loaded, but I pointed it at the other car. You can guess that they lit out of there as fast as they could. Today, I wouldn't have gotten away with that. They probably would have shot back!

Couldn't you pull a Matrix on the other driver and flip his car? OR you could believe this:

Pro 16:7 When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.
