Easter Plans

What are your plans for Easter?

I will have 17 here for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All but two are spending the weekend. (At least I don't think they are) Plus I could have one to three more coming.

I made my gumbo Saturday and have it in the freezer waiting for Friday. Plus I will cook a ham Friday for the little fellows who may not care for the gumbo. Then I can also use the ham for Saturday morning breakfast.

Saturday I will fix a brisket with bake beans, brocolli and cheese casserole, potatoes, rolls, orange fluff, and Lemon Layer Delight.

I will be busier than a cat on a hot tin roof for the rest of this week.

My niece is going to bring her small tent for the kids to camp out in on the enclosed patio. There will be at least nine kids from 12 months to 9 years old.

We plan to have a big easter egg hunt Saturday and possibly Friday.

I have been having some health problems that I pray don't flare up while everyone is here.

17???!! You rock Esther!

Your menu sounds so yummy-BTW.

Our church is making Hamburgers on Easter hoping to attract some visitors-

But we may go to somewhere to eat and for go the hamburgers, but be there long enough to talk to folks.

Our church does an Easter Fellowship cookout too. It's a great opportunity for the visitors who come on Easter to get to know some of the people in the church and hopefully return for more services after Easter Sunday.

I always enjoyed when I was growing up having a picnic and egg hunt the saturday before Easter and dinner on the ground with the church folks. We always went to a park where the kids could play and the men would play baseball. Everyone always had such a good time.

Then on Easter sunday we would go to Grandmothers for a huge egg hunt with the cousins. There were a lot of cousins since Grandmother had 9 living kids and most had at least four kids, with some exceptions of less and more. :)

Those were the days:thumbsup

I think a minimum of 17 as of now. I promised my neighbor I would fix her a plate and she may keep my Pom Saturday for her protection. She is small and all the kids want to pet her. :(

They love on her just a tad more than she likes.

Re: Easter Plans

we're all going to my brother's house for Easter. That's his holiday to have every year. I have Thanksgiving, Sally has Christmas, Rin has Easter and Chickie has us all over for a big cook-out for our town's Corn Festival after the parade.

Rin just built a new house this year so this will be his first year to have us all in his new place. He's really looking forward to it. And his wife is really nervous about it. I don't blame her a bit!!

There are about 19 of us, unless my cousin and her family joins us (which is very possible). Then that will be 7 more.

Rin makes the ham and potatoes. The rest of us potluck it. I'm taking
pickled eggs (3 dozen)
Puppy Chow
Lemon Cake (a new recipe I'm trying out)
Corn Casserole
2 Pumpkin Pies
beer bread
and I've already taken over a ton of pop and water that we had left-over from Rin's daughter's bridal shower.

I'm not sure what all everyone else will bring. Chick usually brings broccoli casserole, spinach dip and nacho cheese and chips. Her son makes deviled eggs. Other than that, I have no idea what we'll have. But it's always ALOT!

My mom organizes games for the grandkids and brings plastic eggs filled with money and a whole ton of small prizes for them to win. We used to do a giant egg hunt, but the grandkids are too big for that now. So instead she has them do things like playing Bunco or Bingo or who knows what. It really doesn't matter what they play or what they win. They just have a great time being together.

In the morning, our church has a potluck breakfast which we will attend. All the church's in town have a Sunrise Service at the park and then after the Sunrise Service, we go back to the church for the potluck. Then Sunday School, church and then to Rin's.

We'll be exhausted by the end of the day.

Yes in the deep south of Texas :)

Thinking about making a churn of homemade ice cream if it warms up enough. Tonight it is getting cold.

I will probably sit under some heavy preaching followed by our annual near-gluttonous indulgence at an Easter Brunch.

Re: Easter Plans

Saturday I am picking up eggs, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns makings, and pancake makings for 250.
Easter Sunday starts our churches 50 days of consecration. Easter is the last day before fasting and prayer starts. People will be fasting starting Monday after Easter through to Pentecost Sunday. (folks pick a day through the week, NOT the entire 50 days) We will have prayer meetings regularly during this time (we always have prayer on Monday but it will be more like two weeks during this time were we go to the church every night and all we do is pray for one particular thing, one night will be lost family and friends, one night will be our city, state, country, etc)
okay back to Easter. Sunday we have sunrise service at 6 but I will need to be there at 5 to get the breakfast started. Breakfast will be served after sunrise service. We will then have our regular service at 11 for English and 2 for Spanish. Not sure if we will come home to eat or go out. Thinking Buca sounds good, but who knows, maybe My Big Fat Greek Restaurant. Just depends. Might just go home.
