I can remember when I was growing up-- there was this lady who sang this in our church about every other service it seemed. She would get so red in the face and out of breath I always thought that eventually she was going to pass out-- and someone would have to revive her.

Never was a fan of that song either. :D

The Great Speckled Bird...... was another one we always dreaded hearing. Not necessarily because of the song, but because of the way it was sung by the lady who sang it in our church.

I'm afraid to say too much about it though. I'm sure someone from that church probably reads here. :D

The worst song?

Most on my list would probably be songs that many here actually liked. I have them on my "worst list" for the sole purpose that they would always be repeated FAR FAR too many times and are thus now consigned to a special room in hell (for songs that are sung too often).

I remember a guy declaring that we didn't need "worldly" songs or "worldy" music that had "Jesus" inserted into the lyrics. He then immediately broke out in "Devil Don't Allow..." to the tune of JJ Cale's "Mama Don't Allow."

I simply abhor songs that sing to Satan.

And now I draw a blank. Maybe one of you can remember a few of them.

I always found it amazing beyond belief that an entire Jesus Name Oneness Apostolic Pentecostal church full of people would haul and SING to Satan for half an hour.

Blows my mind.

I just remembered one... Satan your kingdom must come down...

I understand the thought... but having a church choir actually singing to satan... I just can't figure that one out.

Evidently you've never heard Bro. & Sis. Hubert Hammond sing it. Wonderful people, with an honest desire to please and praise God. Stalwarts and icons in Georgia, both have to be in their eighties now, and possibly too feeble to sing it, but I would drive to hear them try!

I probably have more affection for them than the song, however.

As someone has already stated, I hate singing songs to Satan. What ever happened to give no place to the Devil? I imagine someone with boxing gloves on trying to punch the Devil/Satan as he flew about the church. Then I come to you in the Name of the Lord, look out Satan, look out. POW!! :boxing...For "Look out, Satan, look out!....Maybe from time to time those type of songs have their place, but it's hard to see when that place would be.

Anyone remember this one:

I think the worst one i ever heard was at a youth conference also! It was "Jesus is my superhero!"

The evangelist singing was a short fat preacher! (No offense intended to anyone). He had the electric guitar almost up under his chin to play it! It was so bad, he was jumpin around, I was almost expecting him to do the slide!

Then there's "I don't know what you came to do... but I came to praise the Lord." That particular verse isn't so bad... but I hate the ones that go into "I didn't come to sit on a pew" or "did you come to sit on a pew"... however it goes.

Makes me want to break out singing... "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus"

We have had some real stupid songs in Pentecost.

Thank God the charismatics came along and taught us how to worship God in song.

"Satan the Blood of Jesus is against you..." from "Give God the Glory" - Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Used to sing that song to death back in the day.

There was some song making the rounds a few years ago ... don't remember all the words, just remember the irritating chorus "Leap for joy" repeated about a zillion times. I called it the Richard Simmons UPC Workout Song. "Clap your hands, stomp your feet, wave your hands, leap for joy."

There are two songs I know that have good verses, but the chorus' to these songs are just total letdowns and ruin the song. It's as though the songwriter got writers block after writing the verses and just decided, "hey, why don't I just use one line over and over again and call it the chorus."

"Trading My Sorrows" and "I Know Who I Am" - both songs have decent verses (and the church here loves them) but the chorus' are just incredibly terrible.

"How Great is Our god"- since the GOD referred to here is trinity since the song goes, "The godhead three in one- father, spirit, son." I could not understand why oneness folk would want to sing that and possibly cause confusion to those weaker in the faith or to visitors.

"I am a Friend of GOD"- overused in my old UPC church, luckily never sung in the assembly I currently attend, which sings a lot of charismatic crunchy-chewy songs, which I like a lot!

Our church changes the lyrics to the first song you mention to "The Lord our God is one - Father, Spirit, Son" if that makes you feel any better about it :)
