Restaurant Reviews

I was thinking last night (in the middle of the night) that we need a thread on here where we can post our favorites and least favorites as far as restaurants go. Especially the chain restaurants. I think it would be ok to also rate local restaurants tho because we never know when we might be traveling to a city and want to know which restaurants are worth going to and which are not.

So here's my thoughts as far as rating a restaurant:

1) name the restaurant and the city it is located in

2) give your rating:
:thumbsdown means "don't eat here. You'll be sorry if you do"
:thumbsup means "it's ok. Nothing to write home about, but not disgusting"
:thumbsup:thumbsup means "Not bad. Pretty average"
:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup means "pretty good. certainly a step above average, but they have a ways to go still"
:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup means "well worth it. Make the trip"
:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup means "The food is excellent. The service is outstanding. The price is very reasonable. Don't miss this place"

3) Give us an idea of the price ranges for food and also drinks (if that applies and you partake)

4) Tell us what your favorite foods are at this restaurant

5) Any additional comments you want to make.

I think this probably belongs over in the Chef's Corner, but thought that maybe we could get started here and then perhaps Admin would be so kind as to move it for us?

What do you think? Anyone interested? I'll start out in the next post. My mom and I went to The Melting Pot yesterday and didn't even stay to eat. I guess that's what made me think about doing a thread like this. I would like to have read about it before we stopped in there. I realize there was a thread about that particular place here a while ago, but I guess I missed how much it COST!!!

Ok, so now that I've set this up, I realized that I can't rate the Melting Pot because we didn't actually EAT there. Maybe someone who has eaten there can do that?

We left because the cost was more than I was willing to pay - a dinner for two started at $78 not including drinks. And that's a basic dinner. Sorry, I'm too cheap for that.

Ok, so now I'll do one I can actually give a rating to:

DonPablo's in Toledo

:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

You can get a really good meal at DonPablo's starting at about $9.00. If you want to add an appetizer, plan on another $6-8 and desserts run $6.00 or less. A pop is less than $2.00 and you can get great Margarita's for $3.00 for a small one up to $8.00 for a fishbowl sized drink.

When we go to DonPablo's we ALWAYS ordered the Queso Blanco for an appetizer. Be sure to ask for the fresh flour shells to dip in it.

My favorites for a meal are either the Ground Beef Chimi D Oro, only I ask for it without the yellow cheese and have them use the Blanco instead. And since I HATE beans and am not a big fan of rice, I also have them replace those two items with corn cake, which is wonderful!! We rarely get dessert, but if we do the Apple Chimi is good, as is the standard Fried Ice Cream.

This is by far, my very favorite restaurant ever!! If there is one near you, give it a try.

Ooops, I forgot to add: my other favorite meal there is the Margarita Shaker Salad with the strawberry dressing. MMMMMmmmmmmm. Spinach salad with mandarin oranges, onions, pecans, and craisins.

I really do not eat at many chain resturants. There are so many good local resturants here in LA. that we do not make it to the chain ones. I will be happy to rate any of the ones we eat at though.

Rate some of your favorites there, too because if anyone ever comes to your town, they'll want to know what are good places to eat.

But speaking of Dallas.

"Big Buck", Grapevine, TX. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

Brewpub, with good food, good beer. Get the sampler. 6 or 7 5-oz glasses for like $6. But I haven't been there since it changed ownership. Now it's called "Uncle Buck's" or something. Crossing fingers.

I'm not sure how widespread Claim Jumper is. I know there are a handful in Southern California and I have also seen one in St. George, Utah and Denver.

Anyway it's theme is that of a goldminer's claim, thus Claim Jumper. They have a wide variety of steaks, ribs, pasta, sandwich's etc. Except you better be hungry because their portions are HUMONGOUS, but it's a great place.

It may be pricey for some, around $40-50 for two if you eat a dinner and get a soda.

The Front Porch Cafe, Faulkner MS.

:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

Small country place with the absolute BEST all you can eat Catfish buffet on Friday nights. Cost- under $12 per person. Service is great. Go early on Friday evening if you expect to get in without having to stand and wait on a table. Great family restaurant.

I couldn't give a review of anything else on their menu-- we've only been on Friday night, and all they serve on Friday night is the buffet. No menu orders because it's all they can do to keep food cooked and on the buffet.

Re: Restaurant Reviews

I am adding these as I have only thought of them since I will be there tomorrow :)

Splash Cafe - Pismo Beach, CA -- the best bread bowl clam chowder in the world :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

McClintocks - Shell Beach, CA --- Steaks is the specialty, plan on spending a couple of bucks, but it's well worth it. They will even fill a glass with water, on your head while they are standing on a chair and blindfolded. :thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup:thumbsup

Correction on last post:

The actual name of the restaurant is F.McLintocks...still very good. Cost - was $95.00 plus tip for four steaks and one Dr. Pepper during the Early Bird menu.

Well worth it though!
