How much do you (or your spouse) spend on groceries per month per person? For example, if you spend $400.00 a month and you have 4 people in your household, the amount per month per person would be $100.00a month. Thanks for your vote!

Due to special diet restrictions--and 5 people in the house-- Groceries cost a fortune each month. Would you believe that groceries cost us twice as much as our house payment each month? (I'm not joking!)

With special diet restrictions, that would make a big difference! Also, some who spend less on groceries spend more on eating out, so it's a hard question to answer and figure out what the average is.

I would say $500 a month - family of five, but my three girls eat less than adults. I voted $100

We eat out probably 2-3 times a month. If our kids come with it gets pricey, but my husband and I usually spend less than $15.00 including tip for the two of us. I have a great coupon book with tons of buy one get ones! :D

I spend around $75 per person. I budget $120 per week, but don't always spend that much. 6 people in the household.

I did say average. If the kids are with us it is $40 to $50 (every Sun at least)

If the kids are not with us, it means we paid for a sitter and we are likely going to a nicer place and likely more $$.

I am not counting the Mickey Dees drive bys that the kids get from time to time.

I can't eat a lot of stuff that the rest of the family eats - different planets and all; so we tend to go out too much when things are crazy. That eats up the budget every time.

I have found that groceries have really gone up. I used to get by for about 100 dollars a week for two people. For the last several months, I cannot get out of the grocery store for less than 125 dollars a week. We do feed my brother at least once or twice a week. We do not eat out much- we eat Subway on Sunday for lunch and will eat out maybe twice a month.

Right now, I spend between $100 and $125 per person, per month. This is *extremely* extravagant for us.

I know that I could keep it under $75 per person, per month. I had it at $50 or less per person, per month for several years. Unfortunately, groceries have gone up and our lifestyle has completely changed. I still think $75 would be reasonably painless to do.

Ok, so per person is impossible for me to know because I feed my whole family PLUS the daycare kids for breakfast, then just the daycare kids for supper, then half the town for after school snack, then just my family for supper. And in addition to that, we do eat out alot. Especially during baseball season. And basketball season. Oh ya, and during football season because of marching band. And then there's late July and all of August when it's just too hot to heat up the kitchen by cooking...............

I just checked my figures in Quicken.

For the first 3 months this year we spent $2483.11 total for groceries.
This averages out to $797 per month and is 14.09 percent of our expenditures.

In 2008 we spent $9,742.02 which averages out to $811.83 per month for groceries.

So, for the last 15 months we average spending about $800 per month for groceries for two people plus whatever guests may eat with us from time to time.

Included in groceries are cleaning supplies and anything else we purchase in our trips to a store to buy groceries. Also included in the groceries category is coffee purchased at Starbucks for brewing at home. Any brewed coffee and snacks purchased at Starbucks would be in the category of "dining" like anything we would eat at a restaurant.

We spend on average $230.00 a week, for a family of 4.

This also includes food for our dog, 4 cats, a parakeet, and an African Grey parrot.

Not sure; my husband puts it all in a spreadsheet.
There are just the 2 of us and we eat out a lot as well.

I do clip coupons and buy the weekly specials ; so I'm a careful shopper but not always "bargains only".
