She shocked the world they say. I wonder, how often do we not only judge too quickly, but wrongly?

I don't even have to watch it... I saw this earlier today. You are so right.

We judge so quickly these days. I started a thread a while back about the effect of talk shows & forums on our thinking (and many other areas as well)

We learn that we can make a snap judgment in one quick look or we can judge a situation in a 15 second blurb from one side of the argument...

I watched the video several times... not only to hear her sing again... but to look at the immediate and confident judgments that everyone came to on the initial sight of Susan.

They wrote her off.

I am glad she shared her talent with us.

Renda, what is the lesson?

I believe the three judges knew she could sing beforehand.

However, she is a great proficient.

I doubt that myself.

I would feel that it is a safe assumption that those 3 judges don't do any of the pre-judging if there is any.

On the show in the US that is patterned after this show there is no prejuding like there is on American Idol. Everybody gets a chance to try out. They might buzz you out in 10 seconds... but you get your chance.

And.. beyond that... there is a vast audience behind those three judges that learned a lesson in judgment that day.

If you don't know the lesson (even from the audience) then you don't need it.

I also had already viewed this video clip earlier today when the news story showed up on some major internet news site.

I love these stories of people who are average in most ways, even strange or eccentric but who have an incredble talent that shocks everybody.

This woman is now in talks with BMG records about a possible record deal! She is 47, never been kissed, was made fun of as a youngster in school for a disability, etc.

Watching that clip earlier today brought tears to my eyes I was so proud for her.

Now if she will just get on one of those makeover shows and fix up a little!!!!!

I don't think I have ever watched American Idol, but have seen a few clips. Doesn't interest me.

Thanks for sharing this. I watched it yesterday, made me cry and made me think.

Today, I will use it as an object lesson in our homeschool and have the children write a short essay on what they learn from watching it!

It just seemed to state a very similar thought to what the thread is stating.

We feel such a need that people "look like us" to be accepted and appreciated.

When she walked up she didn't "look like" someone who could sing so beautifully and the judgments were made.

As I said... no offense in the least. I just found it ironic to see that thought in this thread.

I guess that just hit me, because when I first saw her on the news clip, I honestly thought she was a man. Only when I saw the dress did I realize it was a woman.

I'm listening to it right now. LOL! She's so special!!! I saw a clip of her on some news show. I hope they leave her just the way she is, although if she wants to change after getting out of being holed up with her cat, then I'm okay with that also.

there have been over 10 Million views of this woman on You Tube. I am very happy to see that she did so well. Unlike the video of the young lady EA posted a video of a week or so ago.

I just keep watching this and crying every time. It's just so moving. Especially knowing that she had learning disabilities and has been made fun of all of her life. Just makes you want to say - 'So take THAT, world!' It's just stunning. I hope all of her dreams come true, and that handlers don't ruin her.

Yes, she is beautiful inside. I thought it was petty of Diane Sawyer to say something to the effect - Was she glad she could shove it in the faces of those that teased her growing up? Susan said she would just leave that in the past. :thumbsup
