Chrysler - Should We Buy The Van Now Or Wait?
 

Do you think Chrysler will go under in Bankruptcy soon. It is predicted by many they will in the next 30 days.

We are ready for a new minivan - or at least my wife is. I like the Ford Flex. But she rules in this purchase and has decided on the Town and Country again.
They are running some good specials right now, with pricing about the same as we paid eight years ago.

Would you buy now? Will prices go up or down after a bankruptcy?

Does bankruptcy mean they close down or just restructure? Maybe they will sell the van cheaper?

Chrysler is not going away. A bankruptcy would mean merging with Fiat, rewriting agreements with their Unions and continuing most of the product line as it is now. I do not think there will be any effect on warranties etc.

I am just not sure about pricing, though i don't imagine the price structure would see any rapid changes. We were going to buy in August, but they have Employee pricing plus rebates and until the end of this month $1,500 towards a dual DVD player.

I have had a few Chrysler products & would never buy one again!
Same goes for a friend of mine.

That very well may be true for some of their products. The Crysler minivans though, get very high consumer reports... and we have been happy with the T&C.

The way I understand it, General Motors has made the decision to kill the Pontiac brand entirely.

The design has changed a bit and the new ones also have the feature to roll down the side door windows. Most importantly, my wife also loves the automatic side doors and hatch.

Comes with Sirus TV. Do we even need that?

I'm not a Chrysler fan myself, but as stated....everyone that has a T&C loves it.
My son bought a used one (he doesn't attend church anymore but the van came complete with a "fish" symbol on the back bumper...:thumbsup )
He and a group of friends took it to Mpls( 400 mi) a few months ago and had a great ride!

A co-worker just bought a new one and thought she got a good price....some dealers are wheelin' and dealin'.

My brother works for Chrysler here in Toledo. It's been tough here lately. He'll work 2 or 3 weeks of even a month and then be off for a week to 3 weeks. They're constantly hearing rumors of a total shut-down if the union doesn't give the concessions that Fiat is going to be asking for........

But even with all that, I have to tell you - about a month ago, he bit the bullet and bought a brand new Chrysler made truck.

I worked in retail sales of GM cars for 15 years. It is my opinion that deaper discounts/rebates/incentives are ahead.

If you don't need a new one today and can wait till Fall, you'll spend less money.

There are many Chyrsler cars I would not own but the Town and Country they got right.

Have you heard the new Ford ads? They are touting that they are the only American car manufacturers that did not need a bail out!

Then they go on to say, " Buy the truck you want, not the one that a beaurocrat wants you to buy".

Thanks to all for advise. We are going to hold off a few months. Chrysler is indeed going into bankruptcy. I am betting there will be new incentives to at least match what they are offering now.

Finally made a purchase. Honda Odyssey it is! Fully loaded Touring model. Leather, DVD, Navigation, AC adaptor, sunroof, backup camera, sensor parking etc.

More $$ than we wanted to spend but a fabulous minivan.

I thought you said your wife would not buy a Honday Odyssey????? For years all of the reviews I have read (and I read a lot of them as I read Motor Trend, Car & Driver, and Automobile magazine) put the Honda as the #1 minivan.

However like you I really have liked the Chrysler one. No doubt the Honda is better made and the last few years they finally made it look better and it is now about the same size as the American mini vans. I think you made a good choice.

I raise three kids with two minivans during their growing years. First a Ford Aerostar when they were little then after two years in an Infinit J30 in the mid 90's which my wife loved but was too small for three kids on trips we got a Ford Winstar van. SUV's have been all the rage the last few years but nothing beats a mini van with kids because of the ability to move from the front seat to the rear if needed while moving. I also always made sure to get the four captains chairs so kids or grownups could recline the two rear seats to rest on trips.

Actually, the issue she was concerned with was the features. When we bought the last van a new T&C, they were one of the only ones with the power sliding doors and builtin DVD etc.

Also, atfer researching, we discovered the Crysler minivan products took a nosedive in most rating catagories - including safety. The Honda rates higher or as high as any in all catagories except for road noise, where Toyota is better.

When I moved to Nashville in 1999 I had to go to Bowling Gree KY on buisness so I scheduled a tour of the Corvette factory while I was there. I let my 12 year old son skip school that day and took him with me.

We had a great time and at the end of the tour they picked my son to be the first to start a new Corvette for the first time that was at the end of the assembly line and to test its horn and wipers. Then they gave him a certificate for helping build a Corvette. It was funny because three or four guys in their 30's and 40's and been waving their hands to be picked and when he got that cetificate they were like little school kids looking on with envy. LOL!!!

I had corvette fever for about six months after that tour. What was so bad is that my wife actually agreed to let me buy one. However financial reality prevailed (the cost of having three teenage kids to raise) and I didn't take the plunge.

Sorry man LOL I hope I don't sound braggadocios. :blush I spent much of my life without anything much (though I don't regret that) so when I have something nice I do have an appreciation for them.

My enjoyment is generally short-lived, it's back to the soot tomorrow!
