How to affix a "Mezuzzah" ?????

Many of you are aware of the Jewish Roots class I have taught in different countries. I just put this short video together demonstrating something that has been done by the Jews for centuries if not thousands of years. This shows me affixing a Mezuzzah to my office door. Most are affixed in the inside of the door frame, but I affixed mine to the front for aesthetic and practical reasons. If I get too much flack for it not being exactly "kosher" I'll re-affix it. :D

Enjoy!

What is the purpose of you having a Mezuzzah?

Do you also wear a yarmulke?

The purpose? Because I want one on my office door. Good for conversation.

I wore one at the synagogue at Passover last month. I don't wear one unless I'm teaching about it.

I bought one of these door Mezuzzahs a while back, but never got around to putting it by my door. Now I want to go find it and put it up!

Just a few tid bits of info. Actually, the parchment inside the Mezuzzah case contains the Shema, which contains the most important scriptures to all Jews. THE most important being Deut. 6:4 Hear O Israel, the LORD our God the LORD is one! :D

That's the same reason I had put one up on our last house. I'll watch the video to see if I did it right or not, lol.

I had heard that they kiss their hand and then touch the Mezuzzah as they enter through the door. Is that right?

Never mind I just watched the video and you answered, LOL.

That's really neat! You know, I teach this Jewish "stuff" in depth, but I have never taught that we must return it. There just really is a HUGE amount of insight and revelation that we can glean from it though. Doesn't make any of us more or less saved, just greater understanding, which, when it comes to the Word of God, can't be bad! :D

I'm not going to knock anyone for doing any of these things. To each their own I suppose.

But... on the statement "when it comes to the Word of God, can't be bad" I would only point out the following.

In the word of God there was instruction given to make a brazen serpent. Later on that serpent had to be destroyed because the clamor over the symbol had superseded the instruction and intent behind it.

I think that we do need to recognize that symbols can take on a meaning and worth to us that is far beyond the intended use and purpose. As fleshly beings we have a propensity to latch onto symbols to the point that the symbols themselves bear as much worth as the truths they were intended to convey. It is simply demonstrated human nature that we have this tendency.

I am not casting judgment on anyone elses position in relation to these symbols. I am just stating that a blanket statement like the one I quoted above is, upon closer observation, not necessarily so.

Ok, that last bit was a little deep in, um, mud. :)

Mezuzahs are for believers, too.

I have a mezuzah. Three quick facts:
  • Affixed to the face of the mezuzah is the Hebrew letter shin: ש
It is the first letter in the word shaddai:
שדי , as in El Shaddai, God Almighty.
  • The passage from Deut. 6:4-9, known as The Shema, is written in Hebrew upon a parchment and placed inside a hollowed section of the mezuzah.
  • The passage from Deut. 6:4-9 contains the directive from ADONAI to write the words of God upon the doorposts of my house (accomplished through the mezuzah) and upon my gates.
The presence of a mezuzah on my doorpost tells people that as for me and my house, we obey the commandments of God, believe in One God, and have dedicated our home to be a sanctuary for El Shaddai. That's something every believer in Yeshua can identify with.

I have one on my front door to the house and one on each bedroom door. Every time I look at it I think Dt. 6:4. I use it to teach my kids Dt. 6:4, that was their first scripture they could recite. Dt. 6:5 instructs that we are to teach them the shema daily.

Point well taken. However, my statement really doesn't fit with your comparison. They were not told that the serpent would be for a memorial. They were not instructed to keep the serpent. They sinned in making it an idol. It did not give them greater understanding of the word.

ANYTHING can lose its intended meaning and become something more or less than it was intended to be. I stand by my statement that something can't be bad that gives us greater understanding to the word of God.

I have never instructed a single person to affix a mezuzzah or to follow any of the ways of Judaism. Paul did not instruct anyone to leave the ways of Judaism nor did he ever forsake his Jewish roots by failing to practice his heritage. His heritage was made perfect by the Messiah, the spotless lamb, the High Priest, the Prince of Peace, the LORD God Almighty.

The study of the Rabbinic Judaism of Jesus' day is not only enlightening, but more clearly and truly reveals who Jesus was and is and how much He loved the people of His day. Jesus life and teachings fit into the framework of first century Rabbinic Judaism.....at least from everything I have studied for almost 20 yrs.

Hopefully you enjoy catfish from time.
The Hebraic roots study stuff is good because it helps one to understand the background and culture of Jesus and His day,but alot of things from a ceremonial aspect are not binding now,I prefer grace to ceremonial law.

Ceremony and tradition can be good until they become a requirement, then a measure and then a reason for disfellowship! :D

Believe it or not when the JW's or the LDS came to our house and noticed ours on the door post, it was a great way to share with them One God which led into the Gospel.

We have one on our front door. Actually, it's on the inside, on the wall just to the right of the door. Only because I couldn't get it to go on my door. I don't know what the thing is made of, but it's tough stuff.

My friend gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago. We had done a small study on Jewish traditions and this came up. So she went to the local temple and got one for each of us in our group. I put it up because whenever i touch it, it reminds me of whose I am and where He has brought me from.

When we did our study, the person at the temple explained to us that the Jewish people have them because touching them as they enter or leave reminds them that they are God's people and it reminds them how He brought His people out of bondage. I like that :)

Wow, I do the same thing, and I do it without dressing up like a Rabbi or affixing Judica to the entrance of my abode.

:thumbsup

My Tanta Idelle, had a mezuzzah on her doorpost and no JW, or Mormon even dared to knock.

I guess there are not many Jews in your area?

And just how does a Muslim dress? (outside a head covering for men?)

When I've been over seas, the Muslims (men) dress no different from anyone else. Most wear normal cultural attire.
