How to affix a "Mezuzzah" ?????
Many of you are aware of the Jewish Roots class I have taught in different countries. I just put this short video together demonstrating something that has been done by the Jews for centuries if not thousands of years. This shows me affixing a Mezuzzah to my office door. Most are affixed in the inside of the door frame, but I affixed mine to the front for aesthetic and practical reasons. If I get too much flack for it not being exactly "kosher" I'll re-affix it. :D
Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvBoTPWyzgA |

kipa/kipot" is Hebrew and "yarmulke" is Yiddish if I am not mistaken.

I wore one at the synagogue at Passover last month. I don't wear one unless I'm teaching about it. |

But... on the statement "when it comes to the Word of God, can't be bad" I would only point out the following. In the word of God there was instruction given to make a brazen serpent. Later on that serpent had to be destroyed because the clamor over the symbol had superseded the instruction and intent behind it. I think that we do need to recognize that symbols can take on a meaning and worth to us that is far beyond the intended use and purpose. As fleshly beings we have a propensity to latch onto symbols to the point that the symbols themselves bear as much worth as the truths they were intended to convey. It is simply demonstrated human nature that we have this tendency. I am not casting judgment on anyone elses position in relation to these symbols. I am just stating that a blanket statement like the one I quoted above is, upon closer observation, not necessarily so. |

My initial reaction to the original post was "Who cares?" LOL
I'm with Digging4Truth on this one, but have a deep and lasting affection for all involved. Ok, that last bit was a little deep in, um, mud. :) |
Mezuzahs are for believers, too.
I have a mezuzah. Three quick facts:

ANYTHING can lose its intended meaning and become something more or less than it was intended to be. I stand by my statement that something can't be bad that gives us greater understanding to the word of God. I have never instructed a single person to affix a mezuzzah or to follow any of the ways of Judaism. Paul did not instruct anyone to leave the ways of Judaism nor did he ever forsake his Jewish roots by failing to practice his heritage. His heritage was made perfect by the Messiah, the spotless lamb, the High Priest, the Prince of Peace, the LORD God Almighty. The study of the Rabbinic Judaism of Jesus' day is not only enlightening, but more clearly and truly reveals who Jesus was and is and how much He loved the people of His day. Jesus life and teachings fit into the framework of first century Rabbinic Judaism.....at least from everything I have studied for almost 20 yrs. |

Hopefully you enjoy catfish from time.
The Hebraic roots study stuff is good because it helps one to understand the background and culture of Jesus and His day,but alot of things from a ceremonial aspect are not binding now,I prefer grace to ceremonial law. |
Re: How to affix a "Mezuzzah" ?????
Ceremony and tradition can be good until they become a requirement, then a measure and then a reason for disfellowship! :D

My friend gave it to me for Christmas a few years ago. We had done a small study on Jewish traditions and this came up. So she went to the local temple and got one for each of us in our group. I put it up because whenever i touch it, it reminds me of whose I am and where He has brought me from. When we did our study, the person at the temple explained to us that the Jewish people have them because touching them as they enter or leave reminds them that they are God's people and it reminds them how He brought His people out of bondage. I like that :) |
