I don't know how to vote here. We are "apostolic" if defined by Jesus' name baptism and speaking in tongues. However, I never refer to myself as Apostolic - so I'm not sure what to vote.

would you consider yourself apostolic despite not referring to yourself that way
?

Prax, Roman Catholics consider themselves to be Apostolic. They teach the doctrine of apostolic succession of the popes.

Should we assume Apostolic to mean 'Oneness Pentecostal'?

Re: Are you Apostolic or Ex-Apostolic or Neither

"Apostolic" is supposed to mean one abiding by the apostles' doctrine for salvation mentioned in Acts 2.

Here's what you normally get on AFF when you ask people if they are Apostolic.

Yes, but I don't believe nothin.'

I knew that before you told me. It's irrelevant though unless you are saying you voted because you believe in the pope :ursofunny

There is no way I am calling you Jesus. The terms Apostolic or Pentecostal identify you doctrinally as opposed to say a Baptist or JW or Methodist who might all otherwise not consider themselves Apostolic or Pentecostal.

So why do you come here to apostolicfriendsforum?

See, I am many things. I am human. I am a son. I am an American. I am a Christian. I consider myself Apostolic because I believe in following the common practices and teachings of the Apostles who were commissioned by Christ

Praxeas this group teaches The Church of Jesus Christ is name of the church which is over the door. However they are Apostolic.

We are all members of His church. See I did not ask if you consider yourself to be a member of the Apostles church.

BTW Did I say that was offensive to me? No

I did not ask "what is the family name" either in my poll lol

I did not attack you either. :hypercoffee

I addressed what you said. What do you call yourself? Saying "I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ" is not what you identify or call yourself or what word describes you doctrinally as opposed to others. What is telling me what you are a member of.

I don't call myself United Pentecostal Church. I say "I attend a United Pentecostal Church"...that means I attend a local congregation that is affiliated or a member of an man made organization.

I also would say just what you said about being a member of the church of Jesus Christ. I also say I am a member of the body of Christ. I have been baptized INTO the body of Christ.

it is inclusive, but I started this thread because of Epley's comments about changing the name. Do you think we should change the name?

I asked a question why you come to APOSTOLIC friends forum...why? Just a simple question. I was not challenging you to leave.

Re: Are you Apostolic or Ex-Apostolic or Neither

Acts 2:38-42 ESV And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (39) For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself." (40) And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation." (41) So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. (42) And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.

John 17:19-20 ESV And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth. (20) "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
Jesus said people would believe in Him through the apostles' words. And the day of Pentecost saw the apostles preach what Jesus told them to preach, and the people continued in the apostles' teachings. this is where being APOSTOLIC comes from. It means nothing more than people who continue in the apostles' doctrine/teachings.

All these verses show the need to continue in the doctrine the apostles gave:
Romans 6:17 KJV But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

1 Timothy 1:3 KJV As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,

1 Timothy 4:16 KJV Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

2 Timothy 3:10 KJV But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,

2 John 1:9-10 KJV Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. (10) If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
These men preached nothing about a sinner's prayer, but the same message over and over again -- water and Holy Ghost baptism.

APOSTOLIC means we simply agree what they preached is what Jesus condoned by saying people would believe on Him through their word, and is what we must preach today.
Galatians 1:11 KJV But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

Re: Are you Apostolic or Ex-Apostolic or Neither

I'm not offended either....God bless.

For those of you who care to know...I did NOT ask to be called Jesus. I am not offended by Apostolic or Pentecostal, but don't prefer those terms for myself....Oh, yeah and I don't believe that the Name has to be over the door...I do believe we should take on the Name of Jesus Christ in baptism.

Thanks....and Good bye!!!!!!!!!!

I consider myself Apostolic.

On my business cards it says that I am:
Apostolic in doctrine
Pentecostal in experience
Charismatic in practice
Non-denominational in affiliation
Inter-denominational in fellowship

Your church IS Apostolic. There would be no confusion for me if I was there!
