I am glad your son is safe...but did he get a picture? I'd love to see one.

Blessings, Rhoni

Behind me there is an Anaconda in a plastic container. He is a baby.

Sister Alvear 04-13-2007 08:32 PM

Rhoni: Yes, he did get a picture...he said it was about 7 feet long when they stretched him out. PM me your physcial address and I will send you a picture of it.

He e mailed me a picture of a huge spider in the little grass roof hut he was staying in while digging a well on our jungle land. They dug a 60 feet deep well by hoe, pick and shovel!

We are trying to raise money to set up a mission base up in that area of Brazil and he and his wife are moving up there as soon as school is out. Please pray for them. They live entirely by faith.

Anacodas grow very large...and become very dangerous.

We have several churches in areas where you often see anacondas...but NOT where we live. In May we are scheduled to go to visit some of the churches. May see some on that journey.

Praxeas 04-13-2007 09:15 PM

Are Anacondas legal to own as pets? I know you can have a boa constrictor but Anacondas get much bigger

I'd get near him long enough to drop something into the container that would put him in a deep permanent sleep.

I was told that Anacondas don't get much bigger than boas. There's a boa behind me, too. :)

This is offtopic, but I could not help but think of the statement, "Throw me over the fence, my hat," when I read, "My son just killed last week..." ;)

Carry on. :)

Interesting pets....

If I was going to have something in a tank behind me-- it would be fish--They come out of the tank-- they die.

I could just imagine having a snake slip the top of the tank over far enough to slither between the tank and the lid. Then it would end up wrapping itself around my leg or something. The snake wouldn't have to kill me. The heart attack would do it.

to the left on the desk there is a sand boa... to the right in a tank is a ball python... to the right wall is another ball python.. wall behind me is the red tail boa... and under the boa is the anaconda... next room over is the rats...

they are pets.. not my pets.. I live with a friend from h.s.
Scott has gone through a few pets. 4 dogs, 4 cats, ten fish, an eel, since 2003. He decided to have pets that are low maintenance. Enter the snakes... :toofunny

Sister Alvear 04-15-2007 09:00 AM

I said huge snake after my son read the post he called me to say it is a baby...It looks huge to me...lol...he said after they killed it and stretched it out it was long but still not big according to him...lol...
I sent a picture and Roni is going to post it...so you decide.
My son said, "Mother, do you know how big these snakes grow to be..." I told him, "not really"...he laughed...
He is not afraid so he says....
Wonder if they are eatable meat? I ate rattlesnake once...
He has never owned a gun or a rifle but I told him as soon as I could I was going to buy him one...
I was really more worried about the indians when I was up there a few years back because they were warring against each other...I gave presents to both tribes so they were "friendly" to me even offered to roast me some tiny frogs to eat. ( I am not joking)
I am really thinking about sending some of these anti women preachers up there! ha...

The Anaconda is considered the biggest snake in the world. These snakes may reach lengths of over 29 feet. There are many exaggerated stories about anacondas being much longer, but they cannot be confirmed.

The Anaconda is the heaviest snake, but it may or may not be the longest. The Reticulated python rivals the Anaconda for the longest snake. A 20-foot Anaconda will weigh more than a 33-foot python. The Anaconda can weigh 550 pounds or more, but will usually top out at a few hundred pounds. These snakes can measure more than 12 inches in diameter. The female typically outweighs the males.

The Green Anaconda is dark green in color with black oval patches on its back. This drab pattern blends the snake in well with the wet, dense vegetations of its habitat. The sides have similar spots with yellow centers. The Yellow Anaconda is true to its name and is mostly yellow with similar black spots. The scales of the yellow and black underside of the lower tail on these Anacondas have a particular pattern which is unique to each snake. It's a form of identification, like a human fingerprint.

Snakes have a cavity called a cloaca which is where the intestinal and genitourinary tracks empty. Anacondas have spurs on either side of the cloaca. The cloaca of the Anaconda has a gland which emits a foul-smelling musk. This brownish musk is quite poisonous to small organisms. This may prevent ticks and leeches from attaching themselves here. When Anacondas are out of the water for long periods of time they usually become infested with ticks.

The Anaconda come equipped with a large head and a thick neck. Its eyes and nostrils are positioned on the top of the head, enabling the Anaconda to breathe and to see its prey while its stocky body lays submerged under water. The extremely muscular Anaconda is a constrictor and is not poisonous; however, it still has teeth and powerful jaws that it utilizes to clench onto its prey. It grabs its victim and pulls it underwater, drowning the prey.

Range: Neotropical
The Anaconda is found in the Guianas, throughout tropical South America, east of the Andes and mainly in the Amazon and Orinoco Basins The Yellow Anaconda can be found as far south as Argentina.
