Air Condition system
I am going to have to buy a new air conditioning system. Any suggestions?
I currently have a Trane and the repairman is suggesting a Carrier, 4 Ton 14 Seer. I am still in sticker shock of the price quote:sad |

Re: Air Condition systerm
I have always heard that Trane makes the best, or at least is right there with the best. What sort of prices have you been seeing? We need to replace ours in about a year.

He works for Carrier and recommends the Carrier. He is my neighbors son and I believe he is being honest, but I also know he may not be paritial. :) 4 Ton 14 Seer with 10 year parts and labor...4950.00. 4 Ton 14 Seer with 5 year parts and labor...4450.00 I just got off the phone talking to another guy who comes highly recommended and put a unit in the house I sold, and he is going to check his prices and get back to me. He is selling Payne's which he said is made by Carrier. |

Re: Air Condition system
I'm happy with the units in our 2-year-old house. I don't remember the name, though, and to find out would mean walking all the way downstairs and outside. Maybe tomorrow. :toofunny

Surprisingly A/C units are affordable. Unless one is elderly or has health issues, most people don't have A/C for home. |

Re: Air Condition system
I just replaced my over 30 yr old central air. We went with Bryant which is owned by Carrier I believe.
15 seer with 10 yr waranty was .....6200 bucks OUCH We have hot water basboard heat so our Ac has to use an air exchanger instead of going the the furnace. Our air exchanger had to be taken apart and reassembled in the attic becaise our low roof line would not allow the unit to be taken into the attic whole. Also our unit sets on the flat roof of our garage...so extra bucks for extra labor: I've only ran it once so far but have found it to be extremely quiet. |
Re: Air Condition system
We have "feel" like temps in the 100's with actual temps in the 90's for over 8 hours! :sad

Need help! Air Conditioning system???
I have to buy a new air conditioning system and they are not cheap. Not only that but the reviews on all the systems I have looked at are not good.
Seems the older units have better reviews than the new ones. Anyone work in this business have any input? My neighbor works for Carrier and he recommends them. A man at my church works for Lennox and he recommends them. A salesman said stay away from Amana-Goodman-Janitrol, Coleman-York. Another salesman said now is the time to buy Amana because their record is so bad they now offer a lifetime warranty on the compressor. Anybody have any suggestions? Flip a coin?? |

I like my new Bryant 15 ceer. I could turn it down and hang beef in here.

Re: Air Condition system
Esther my advice would be to pay the extra for the extra 5 years of warranty. I know it's $500.00 but the way things are made now days, I would rather have the protection than have to foot the bill for another unit.
I know all of the appliances that we install now are being made cheaper and cheaper and warranties are getting shorter and shorter. Just for your protection, I think it'd be worth it. |

Re: Air Condition system
Frigidare and Gibson. Thats mainly what I install. Very good units, with exceptional warranties. Tranes and Carriers are good units, but, remember, you're paying around $1500 more for the name. I installed my 12 Seer 3.5 T split system 3 years ago (Frigidare). Absolutely no problems. Excellent systems and excellent installation. Of, I installed it myself.

If Amana is bad, the lifetime warranty may exclude people coming out and labor material to replace it. I thought Whirlpool bought amana. The man in church and the neighbor are far superior reviews than online. Many online reviews are planted by companies. |

IF the government was really serious about going green seems they would require these companies to go back to making quality products like they made 40-50 years ago before all the new technology that can't hold up. Just think of the hardware that wouldn't need to be dumped back into the landfills. |

We are looking at replacing the furnance also now, seems that is a requirement to get a higher seer. For just a 300.00 difference we are looking at the Maytag really strong. They have a stainless steel cabinet that my husband likes, and a better consumer rating that I can find. Like someone said you wonder if some of these reviews are plants??? Some really bad ones. |
