After the beer summit, the president walks ahead unaware of professor Gates physical problems of dealing with stairs. Who helps the good professor? None other than the white officer who arrested him!

If we want to examine posture and body language, It appears Gates is not human capital in terms of being elevated as the significant fundraiser that Obama had in Cambridge.

Auchi and Khalidi were different in their being elevated by Obama.

Aside from that - is anyone else bothered by his invitation to these to men to the White House "for a beer". Mind you - I realize that drinking goes on in the White House, probably always has and always will - but doesn't it just seem totally crass and without class for the POTUS to invite someone over "for a beer". It just cheapened him in my eyes. But that is JMHO. Couldn't he have extended the invitation in a manner that was befitting the office of POTUS ?????

What you don't see is that after "putting back a few" - Obama needed the police officer's help down the same set of stairs.

Another thing you don't see is Vice President Joe Biden passed out in the bushes.

I think he did that because when he called the officer he was in a pub. He wanted to seem "just like one of the guys" - he's not.

You guys got it all wrong. Obama is the only one there that could "hold his liquor", He didn't need any help walking as you can see. What you can't hear from that picture is they were signing, "99 bottles of beer on the wall". Obama just didn't know the words, so he left.

not all of the world's problems, but just some of our country's problems by dwelling on the things that many of our countrymen have in common.


This gesture flies in the face of the alleged "arrogance" of our President.

He is just like everyone else, a man of the people, and that is why he was elected.


He is absolutely believable.

Exactly what would that have to do with my opinion of the lack of class for him to invite these men over "for a beer"? I'm sorry - but the President of the United States of America should exhibit more class than that! He is not an ordinary Joe - It wouldn't matter to me if it had been any president from George Washington to Ronald Reagan - I think is a lack of class for the POTUS to invite two men to the WHITE HOUSE "for a beer"! I would feel the same way if he had said "a glass of wine."

I'm sure beer has been served and and will continue to be served in the White House - as well as other alcoholic beverages - it was just his attitude and involvement in the whole issue and trying to "fix it" by being "one of the guys"! Again..... JMHO

he's not puffed up.

this incident shows how down to earth he is.

the white house should be accessible to all citizens of America.

it's the taxes from our earnings that keep the lights, pays his salary and the salaries of his staff and so forth.



Most folks really aren't as objective as they think-- including me.

This picture makes me ask questions.

1) Was this officer this polite to the professor when he was at his home?
2) Did the presence of the media have any impact on the way he treated the professor?
3) Does the professor really need his help?
4) If the national media had been present at the professor's home, would the now-famous incident have even taken place?


And for those who are criticizing the president for "having a beer", with these fellows, it sure seems like you're looking awful hard for something to criticize him for. I've never had a beer in my life and never will, but come on, lighten up. Would you have said the same about President Bush?
