I'll be in the area next Friday, but have a prior engagement and wouldn't have the time to hook up.

Hope you have a great time - Happy Anniversary!

Will you be staying on the Riverwalk? Casa Rio is my favorite restaurant. Ate there growing up and throwing tortillas to the fish! Lovely memories!!!

I saw the title of this thread and thought "Of course there are people in San Antonio. That is unless a deadly virus wiped out everyone except for a lone survivor and his dog who now wonder the streets endlessly looking for signs of life while avoiding the ravenous vampires which hunt at night...."

I will only be around the San Antonio area in the late evening on the 14th. So, I won't have time to meet with you. I won't be anywhere close to downtown. Hope you have a great time!

Had dinner on a boat, once. Not as expensive as I thought it would be, and it was a decent meal, and you can't be the ambiance. ;)

I've heard the Fig Tree Restaurant at La Villita is nice or Little Rhein Steak House.

I'll e-mail my oldest sister and ask her. She spends a lot of time in the area. I'll post what she says tomorrow. She sells her artwork in the area along with my cousin.

ask her about boat dining, the places I seen on the net seem expensive.

If your talking about places on the River Walk we ate at a place there where we stopped in to get something "light". A cowboy stepped up to be our waiter (jeans, boots, hat) and asked "What can I git ya?". Since we didn't want anything huge we ordered based on price. I saw a chicken fried steak for about 6 bucks and thought that sounded good. What he brought me was HUGE -the size of a hubcap! And it was also the BEST chicken fried steak I have ever eaten in my life before or since!

Where did you eat? Lone Star Cafe? Chicken Fried Steaks are HUGE everywhere in Texas! LOL!

I honestly don't remember. Lone Star Cafe DOES ring a bell though so that could have been it.

She is recommending Fig Tree and Paesano's. I had to e-mail her again about the boat dining, but I'm sure all choices will be pricey. It's just way too hot here to think of dining on a boat! I don't think you would enjoy it. Lord, it's hot!!! We are in the worst drought in 50 years.

Probably was Lone Star if the waiter was wearing a cowboy hat. I don't know anyone else on the riverwalk that would do that, but there are new places.

I never eat anywhere but Casa Rio when I'm in downtown San Antonio. I've eaten there since I was in elementary school. I would feel like a traitor if I ate anywhere else. LOL!

Although, I have eaten at Mi Tierra Cafe and Bakery. That's a great place to eat also! It's next to El Mercardo (Mexican Market), which is fun.

That's a good point. Tomorrow's forecast in SA is 102 at 6 PM! ("Cools" down to 97 by 8, though. :thumbsup)

You could do the community dinner cruise, which is less costly than a private barge. Casa Rio offers one on Friday and Saturday nights at $35 plus tax and tip per person.

Paesanos is $175 per person and includes tax and tip. :D

Keep Timmy's forecast in mind!!! - muy caliente!!!!!!

Great place to eat, but not romantic. I eat at Salt Grass when I'm in Houston. :thumbsup

Truthseeker,
My sister just sent me another e-mail! LOL!

"I think that Casa Rio is a nostalgic thing for us, but I wouldn't recommend it to other people. It's not as good as it used to be."

So there you have it - Don't eat at Casa Rio. My son and I were in the area over a year ago and I thought it was still good, but we better listen to the older and wiser of us. LOL!
