Please pray. My dad and mom went to Evansville today to my sister's and he was going upstairs to rest after the drive. He passed out at the top and fell all the way down. He's at the ER now. Thanks!!! I'm waiting on another phone call.

He just had his 80th birthday a few weeks ago. Jan said she doesn't think anything is broken, but I guess he's really cut and bruised up. They haven't seen a doctor yet though.

He's still in the ER. Jan said that it peeled all the skin off the back of one hand and tore big patches of skin off both arms (carpet burns). His skin is pretty thin and frail anyway. He has a huge lump over one eye, I guess where he landed, and his head and face were cut. He's in a neck brace.

They are taking him to do a Cat scan now, and then I guess Xrays. I guess we will wait to go up in the morning, because it would be so late if we went now, we wouldn't get to see him anyway.

One good note.........even though he still doesn't know where he is or remember being at Jan's house, he is joking with the nurses and giving them a hard time. So that's pretty typical and a very good sign.

He is fortunate to be alive. When they got to him after the fall, his eyes were rolled back and he was unconscious and they couldn't get any response at all. I know he will be sore, but at least he's alive.

I also am praying for your dad. That is scary! I know the older I get it is amazing how much harder falls, bumps, bruises, etc are for me.

Thanks, everyone. I'm getting up at 6 AM to head up there (with Eddie). Scott is also coming over from St. Louis. They are putting Dad in ICU tonight, as there is some bleeding on his brain that showed up. They are hoping it will dissolve, but they have to watch it. There's also a huge hematoma above his eye that they are watching. If it grows, they will have to remove it surgically. They are hoping it will also just go away (absorb, I guess). Because of the bad stroke he had 9-1/2 years ago, they are watching his brain closely. He has a permanent shunt up there.

He's a lot more "aware" now, and can answer questions about his age, birthdate, etc. They asked him who the president was and he said, "I don't even want to discuss that!". Ha! That sounds more like him.

Fortunately, there doesn't appear to be any broken bones, which is amazing at 80 years old. That flight of stairs is about 14 feet high and really steep.

Sherri, you have to be very nervous tonight. I am praying for healing for your father. And for a sense of peace and calmness to sweep over you so that you can rest very well tonight. And also for safe travels for you all tomorrow.

You've prayed for Walt many times. Thank you for letting me return the love (I was going to say "favor", but it's not a favor, is it? It's an act of love to pray for one another like we do).

We are praying for him. My mother fell a little over a year ago and broke her arm. Shattered the bone to be exact, and did some nerve damage. The doctors had said she would be lucky to get 70% use of her arm and hand back. The last appointment they said she had 90% back. To GOD be the glory.

"They did another CAT scan today, but we haven't heard results yet. They are checking the blood on his brain. But, the huge hematoma on his head has almost disappeared. No broken bones after falling 16 steps is a miracle at any age."

I'm back at my sister's house, with the rest of the family. Dad is still in ICU overnight for observation, but the CAT scan showed no changes. Not sure if that's good or bad, honestly. The bleeding hasn't enlarged, but it hasn't gone away any either. However, they are talking about releasing him tomorrow. I'm not sure if he will have to stay up here, or if he will be able to travel back to Tennessee.

God has definitely done a miracle in his life, once again. I stood at the top of those 16 steps tonight and looked down and I'm still amazed at the goodness of God! Thanks, everyone for praying.
