Meteor Showers

Anyone see the meteor showers last night? Whats and amazing sight!

Apparently the earth was going through the tail of a meteor and thus encountered some of the debris in our atmosphere.

Always interests me about the things of God and how He created the universe!

I did not... and I wish that I had.

We live way away from city lights. It is amazing how dark it gets out here.

It would probably been quite a display.

tail of a meteor? you mean the tail of a comet?

meteors are just rocks in space.

Should see some as soon as it's dark, if the sky is clear and dark enough -- city lights make it harder to see them. The moon won't be a factor until pretty late, too, since it doesn't rise till almost 11 PM.

Debris trail of a comet, yes. The Perseid meteors come from comet Swift-Tuttle.

"The bright spectacle isn't over yet. The meteor shower is expected to peak between 12:30 and 3 p.m. Wednesday but sky watchers only can see the meteors in the dark, Hammergren said. So sit tight until the sun sets, then look up. You could see up to one meteor a minute, Hammergren said. The show should continue for at least a week, he said."

It was still quite a show!

Some of them looked like explosions, some streaked across the sky with tails!

My kids loved it. Makes quite a show!

He's right. The meteor shower is debris from a comet trail. See first post.

Even for us night owls that's late.

In the break room many co-workers discussed seeing it last night.

The peak today, early afternoon (notice the "PM"?), but probably none of them were visible due to sunlight. After sunset, they should be easier to see. Much later, and the moon will be high enough and bright enough to interfere some.

I just tried, but too cloudy here. Saw one, maybe, in the gaps in the cloud cover.
