Job issue- Please help me figure this out
I need you to help me analyze this situation. My husband applied for a District Manager job at a different company than he works at now. He asked for $15,000 more than what he currently makes, but we think the job might pay a lot more than that.
He was interviewed by four different people, then a few days later he went to a realistic job preview. After being there for four hours, they finally informed him that they want to hire him for an assistant manager, not a district manager. Of course, we are very upset about this. Here's the strange part- they are willing to match what he asked for in pay, which is twice the amount of money that other assistant managers make at this company. They called it "fast tracking" and plan to promote him up to where he wants to be if he proves himself. At my husband's current position, he is responsible for over 70 people every day, and at this job, he will only be over about 10 people. Yet, they are willing to pay him $15,000 more than he makes now, and it is twice the amount other assistants make at the new company. What exactly are they trying to do here? Something smells a little fishy to me..... What do you think? |

Well, if it is that black and white I'd say Take It!
But you DO want to look at the details. Will he be going from hourly to salary? |

Re: Job issue- Please help me figure this out
Looks like a piece of paper with a line down the middle are in order.
One side list the reasons to stay, on the other side list the reasons to go.... some questions.... 1. How stable is the current job situation? 2. How stable is the new company? 3. What are the growth potentials in the current company? 4. What is the impact to the family if he makes the move? 5. How much time have you prayed about it? 6. Is the new company willing to eliminate the gap in healthcare coverage? Line it all up. think of everyting you can think of. take the one with the most reasons, seek Gods blessing and be confident that the Lord walks with you. |

Insurance in the interim shouldn't be a factor because of Cobra coverage, right?

Re: Job issue- Please help me figure this out
Will it require a move?

Re: Job issue- Please help me figure this out
Apparently, they run an ad for a high paying position to get more qualified people to respond. They put you through 7 hours of interview process over the course of 2 days, just to inform you that the position you applied for is only considered for people within the company.
Then when you ask why they had an ad ran on monster.com and other job sites, they say you must have found an internal link you shouldn't have found. After offering you a job that pays less than what you make now, and assuring you that they will match how much you are asking for, they never call you back. |

So I take it your husband didn't take this job offer???

Re: Job issue- Please help me figure this out
If he likes his current job don't risk it. Sounds like they are doing fishing and if they don't like him then within the 90 days window he may be left without a position.

If you don't feel comfortable with it, don't do it. They aren't being upfront, or they would have said upfront that it was a different position than the one he applied for. That they didn't shows that they don't care for people, and are good at wasting people's time. Not a good company culture to join.
In this economy, the idea they offer to pay more for less supervision and etc doesn't bode well for your husband... either they will hire and then dump him (to cut competition by pulling their best out from under them?) or they will have their company upside down in no time. Believe me, they are pretty aware of what the competition pays... and if they are offering more than that, either its government work or there is something really wrong... |
