College students or parents... help me here....

I have been totally stressed about this-- and it's down to the last day before we move our daughter into the dorms at college.

I have list after list of things she might need--and we have packed up according to those lists.

She has all the major things covered-- microwave, fridge, laptop, linens, etc....

I have a major headache--I'm stressed to the max today, and I don't want her first night to away from home to be spent at Walmart picking up things she left at home that should have been taken.

I still have that feeling that we're forgetting something....

What could I have possibly forgotten to have her pack?

Don't worry. As soon as you leave she is going to go to Wal-Mart herself and get the things she wants. I don't remember my parents worrying about my dorm room. Ha Ha.

Re: College students or parents... help me here...

She's probably pretty glad her mom is a worrier and is trying to make sure she has everything she will need for a couple of weeks... she hasn't collected her financial aid leftovers from the school yet after they take tuition/fees... :D

I know she doesn't want to have to spend all her money the first night on stuff she forgot to get from home. LOL

All she really needs for college is a smile and lots of questions.

Great list, Cindy. The only thing that I would add is a "care" package of homemade "goodies" tucked in. (those that no one makes quite like Mama) For my oldest, it always has to include trail mix and cookies.

Two things we had to go buy after moving our daughter in were a fan and a vacuum cleaner. We thought there would be a vac available in the dorm, but there wasn't.

how many other girls is she rooming with? Has she called any of them to see what they are bringing? We found with Justin that if there are 4 boys in the dorm room (they had "apartments" where Justin was last year), there was no need for four microwaves, etc.

I would add a surge strip- There are never enough plug ins in the room.

I almost forgot. A flashlight and extra batteries.

We forgot to send an iron and ironing board, over the door hooks for hanging wet towels etc., a faucet water filter to save buy bottled water, and a book light for reading in bed.

We recently added a $5 pillow for sitting up in bed from Wal-mart. They are having a great back to school sale right now. ;-)

Re: College students or parents... help me here...

Thanks for all the help.

We have everything but the ironing board and a Collegiate dictionary. After having people check 6 Walmart stores and a Target in several different areas-- we still haven't located exactly what she needs. I'll order one online and she'll have it before her classes start on the 24th. I can't believe Walmart didn't have what she needed.

We are waiting to see if her room-mate has an ironing board. If not, Walmart is 5 miles from the college, and there's a Dollar General less than a mile away.

They have talked on the phone, and have already decided that the room-mate is bringing a microwave, and Sam is taking the fridge. One has a TV, the other a DVD player. One has a coffee pot, the other a toaster. So it seems to be working out okay so far. Based on the phone conversation, they have a lot of common interests-- so I think they will make great room-mates. :)

The ironing board is one thing neither of them remembered to ask the other one about-- so we'll find out tomorrow when they move in. Her room mate is from either North or South Carolina-- I can't remember which one. There will be two other girls sharing a two bedroom suite.

I'm exhausted. We have almost everything loaded ready to move-- and will be leaving around 8am tomorrow morning.

Tina,

I know you're stressed, but try to enjoy it and not worry too much. Tabo moved back into her dorm today and I looked around and said, "I can't believe this is the fourth time you have done this and and will be the last." It has gone so fast and it seems like yesterday that we moved her the first time.

Sam will be fine. She's a great kid and you've done an awesome job raising her!

That is what my mother gave me years ago. We had traveled plenty and my parents had no need to help me.

My 3 kids in college, they do their own loans and scholarship applications. My teen is now in his 4th year and even starting at age 15, he needed no help. His first year he fiddled around on paperwork and started class 2 days late. That was a learning moment for him.

I'll refrain from commenting on the know it all attitude reflected in your reply in this thread as well as many others you post in. Instead I'll pray for you, and hope that it will be more effective than anything I would say in response. :)

Since she's already moved in, and there's really no need to keep this thread bumped on the first page with endless posts as the last one above mine, I'll go ahead and lock it up so it can fall off the first page. ;)
