I Just Lied....

to a bill collector.

I told her that I did not know "Jermyn Davidson" and that I was tired of all these folks calling my phone for him.

I feel bad and I called the number back, but hung up before talking to anyone because it's pointless-- I have no money for that or most of my other bills since I lost my well-paying job last October.

I'm on my way to church now and hopefully I can pray the condemnation off of me.

I thank God for Grace, but this sure is a stupid way to insult His precious Love and Grace!

I hate sinning sins that really don't have to happen, but then again, is there a such thing as unavoidable sin?

Well, in the true spirit of Acts 4....can I help?....and I don't mean help with the lie, you'll be fine. But financially?

Jermyn Davidson 08-19-2009 04:52 PM

Re: I Just Lied....

for the record, they lied too!

I KNOW that I did not give them this cell phone number to conduct business with ANY of my credit cards.

I live in Florida now, have a Florida cell phone and ALL of these bills were opened long ago, when I lived in DC and MD.

So I really shouldn't feel too bad....

I know, what they do doesn't matter because they're probably on their way to hell anyway....

So much pressure for the economically challenged Christian!!!!

I'm going to skip the whole part about the lie, and just tell you this good news:

If you don't want a bill collector to call you anymore, all you have to do is say so, request that they ONLY contact you in writing (by mail), and write down the date and time that you spoke to them. If they call you again after that to harass you, you can report them to the FTC, and they can be fined upwards of $1,000 PER violation after that. Try to get the full name of the caller. You do have the right to ask for it, and to ask for the nameof their employer. They do NOT have the right to contact you by phone, if you specify your wishes in that regard.

Mike--
Confession is good for the soul they say. I love it because you're so honest and open on here. And God is way more forgiving than we are. Hang in there!!

Since you have repented and been forgiven then what's forgiven is forgotten.
I know what it is like not to have money to pay your bills.

The Bible tells us to be lenders and not borrowers. I lended to others, was not paid back now I am a borrower. Gotta get some balance and stop being so giving...just bites you :foottap

You mean this?

Matthew 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

Can I borrow $1000 from ya? ;)

So, where does Jesus teach no to require repayment of loans?

Who said anything about no repayment? What is the tie in between "collection companies" and "expectancy of loaning" in the words of Jesus.

OK, you've totally lost me. You said that bill collectors are against God's law. Can you explain how?

if I had it I would lend you money. That is the expectancy of true Christianity and I would do with the mindset or expectancy of never getting it back. Though you should repay the debt.

Collection agencies are FORCING you to pay up. Pressuring youand threatening you by force in different ways. That is against the expectancy in which Jesus said to lend money. You don't go out and hire hitman to collect your money.

Sorry, still not seeing how Jesus taught that lenders shouldn't "force" repayment. He may have, but I can't see it.

Luk 6:34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount.
Luk 6:35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

Silly statement. God doesn't hate bill collectors. A Christian principle is one of lending and not expecting repayment--sure. But there's nothing wrong with collecting on a debt, and the coinciding principle is that we should pay our bills whenever possible, and refrain from incurring debt we know we can't repay.

To be mean to someone because they owe you money--obviously that isn't Christian. God still doesn't HATE people, even when they're mean.

It's not a silly statement it is truth. He hates many professions! Does he hate prostitutes? Yes! You are identified with what you do. Does God hate liars? Yes! Does he hate the person that can be changed? No! You cannot seperate the act and the person. That is how the law works. Also you points of....

"But there's nothing wrong with collecting on a debt, and the coinciding principle"

and

"is that we should pay our bills whenever possible, and refrain from incurring debt we know we can't repay."

Have nothing to do with the action of the other as each person cannot be the other. Your action as lender are actions of lending. Yes we should pay our debts and I have said that but my point is to the action of COLLECTING in the current knowledge of our own social structure. Bill collecting is a threat pretty much most of the time. The action of doing harm to another is against the very essence of Jesus words. If your expectancy is not being paid back then why would you act in a way contrary to that. Bill collections and third party debt collectors is clearly not in line with that. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. That is your principle action and guide whethr the 2nd part of your statement above is followed by another. Again my point had nothing to do with the obligation of the debtor but THE LENDER!

Polonius: Neither a borrower or a lender be, Do not forget, stay out of debt;
Think twice, and take this good advice from me, guard that old solvency.
There's just one more thing you ought to do, to thine own self be true.

Just to clarify... Midah Keneged Midah.... measure for measure is biblicaly correct but God wants you to be more than just eye for an eye and tooth for tooth. Love goes beyond the correct principle equal justice.

When your wife asks "does this dress make me look fat" consider carefully if you want to answer that question with honesty and truthfullness.

Michelle Obama asked Barry that question and he voted "present".
