Culottes?

Does your church permit culottes on women?

Does the organization your church belongs permit culottes on women?

I would hope that regardless if they allow women to wear them that they don't allow the men to wear them either!!!

Does it make you wonder why men shouldn't wear them?

Are these culottes the kind that look like a skirt, or the ones that look more like gauchos?

I was allowed to wear them in p.e., nowhere else. I've considered getting them for my daughters.

I don't think the UPC has an official position on it, though the WeDeclare folks must. (no bifurcated garments)

They're "bifurcated" garments, thus they must be men's, right? ;)

More like gauchos. But gauchos are a little tighter through the seat than culottes, so they're not exactly the same. I've seen some women wear skorts to work outside, which have a skirt flap in the front, but not in the back.

Right. That would eliminate culottes and gauchos altogether--even those covered by material to look like a skirt.

Re: Culottes?

The culottes I wore in p.e. had a flap in front and back. It really looked like a skirt. My parents didn't care for the other kind, because when you sit down, they often tighten up around the legs, and look like pants.

I'd like to find a good source for culottes, but haven't seen any I like in a long time.

My daughters hate wearing shorts under their skirts, because they say they bug them, but I hate the immodesty that I see when they're playing and not wearing them. Especially on playgrounds!

Do they still make culottes? ;)

Why? Just a longer, oversized pair of boxer shorts! :heeheehee

Hmmm, my daughter wears shorts and pants mostly. When she does wear a skirt it gets on my nerves because I know that she will be playing on the playground and sliding down the slide.

Next year she will have to wear a uniform so I am not sure what the options are there.

Most uniform skirts have shorts sewn into them.

Just teach them to be little ladies my 4 year old daughter wears dresses ankle length and can still play.

In the pioneer days girls wore bloomers or pantaloons under their long skirts, going bare-legged was immodest. I think that something covering the legs is simply wise.

And you can be a lady and still be very active. Ride horses, climb trees, play on the playground. Nothing unladylike about it.

Re: Culottes?

If girls are going to be wearing skirts 100% of the time, they should wear shorts or opaque tights/leggings underneath for the sake of modesty. JMO.

Re: Culottes?

But when you put something on your legs like that...That resembles pants so we got

1. wear skirts because it is modest.
2. wear skirts but put soomething on underneath that resembles pants to be modest..

just wear the pants and be done with it...

I will get off my soapbox now...

One thing about little kids they will find a way to play no matter what.

I would rather my daughter wear pants or knee length shorts for playing but many times she wants to wear the dresses. She likes being pretty and associates dresses with being pretty.

I like my wife to wear pants for the same reason. There is a lot less fabric and she just looks neat in pants. My wife looks good in dresses but for everyday wear I like her better in pants.

Then just have her wear tights or leggings under her skirts. She'll be modest and still look pretty and feminine. :)

Don't discourage your daughter from being feminine. She can be both modest and feminine--just find a way to compromise.

You are right and she is very feminine and my son is very much a boy. We don't follow traditional UPC standards but I do believe in modesty and gender distinction. I do not want my daughter looking like a boy just like I don't want my son acting like a girl.

I am amazed everyday at the differences though. My daughter is naturally attracted to girly stuff at 4 and my son at 2 is as much a boy as you get.

We try to teach our daughters to be feminine AND modest--not just one or the other. I believe skirts and dresses are more FEMININE, but they aren't always the most modest, depending on the activity. So it might be necessary to wear something underneath to help with modesty.

We have Indian friends, and some of the women wear loose fitting pants with long tunics over them. They look both modest AND feminine.

http://www.designersalwarkameez.com/...eez-kdm249.jpg

I don't believe that pants are necessarily feminine-looking, (although I've seen some that are) and if they're tight, they most certainly are not modest. They may be practical in some instances, and I don't believe its a sin to wear them. I just don't think they will be the prime choice of women who are trying to look distinctly feminine.

Well, I meant when they're engaging in physical activities, and obviously not in hot weather. I would never put a pair of tights on my daughters when it's really hot outside. That's when you might need to go with a pair of shorts under the skirt or something.

Anyway, it was a suggestion for parents who want their girls to wear skirts all the time, even for activities. That's not what we do. Our daughters wear loose fitting knee-length shorts or gauchos to play basketball, ride bikes, etc.

No, it's the whole package and attitude; I've known some pretty masculine acting women who adhere to the conservative dress codes. LOL!!! You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. A truly feminine woman will act and be feminine no matter what she is wearing.

There still should be distinctions in clothing, though. Unless you're going to start wearing dresses to work tomorrow, and insist that everyone recognize your masculinity by the way you wear your hair. :coffee2

No what I am saying it a ladies hair most of the time will be longer then the mans plus god gave features to a women that he did not give to a man to help us make the distinction between the two...

Not a part of an organization. I don't think any church we associate with does.

I grew up wearing the shorts with the flaps that made them look like skirts. Mom wasn't affiliated with an Apostolic church, but she was very particular about anything "revealing".

To say that they permit this would presume that they take a position on this issue at all.

They don't.

So yes and yes, I guess? Except that sounds funny to say since it's not mentioned anywhere at all!

Well, if they don't "pertain" to the man, then they should be okay for the ladies, right?

I wish we could all see just how silly these things are in the eyes of the rest of Christendom. Christian girls are being held in rape camps because of their faith and we're arguing about the exact placement of the inseam on a garment. Christians are being slaughtered and murdered for their testimony that Jesus Christ is Lord, while we and the "WellIdodeclare.Org!" folks are yammering on about "bifurcated garments."

The whole Apostolic Faith movement seems to have rendered itself useless and irrelevant and the devil didn't even have to lift a finger to get it done. We did it to ourselves.

This type of silence on such an issue reveals a bit a wisdom, IMHO.

Just get the loins girded up. It's really as simple as that.

What else should a woman be expected to wear engaged in this particular activity?
