It's Sad.
It's sad.
It's sad that we are fighting a spirit that places more value in rules than people. It's sad that any measure of rule enforcement is permissable, with no regard for who get hurts. It's sad that some of us have lost the ability to be empathetic and compassionate. It's sad that we love our rules more than we love our God. It's sad that we love our doctrines more than we love the Truth. It's sad that we can have bitterness and hatred in our hearts and still feel justified simply because we have not committed murder. It's sad that we focus on our looks more than our attitudes. It's sad that humans are comforted by their own morality instead of the rest and peace Jesus paid for. It's sad that we measure ourselves against each other instead of Jesus. It's sad that we've replaced Jesus with our works. It's sad. |

It's sad that EA has become a Liberal.

Re: It's Sad.
I think it is sad EA will not take these issues to his new super that just got voted in instead of posting them on here..

Re: It's Sad.
Very sad. We have made idols out of our rules.
|
Re: It's Sad.
It sad that we have labels that dump us into categories and lists.
UC and Con auto-magically drop one on the "legalist Pharisee" list and Mod and LIB dumps us onto the "let it all hang out, probably wears a speedo to the beach" list. Probably falls into the "It's sad that we measure ourselves against each other instead of Jesus." sad bit. EA is right, it is sad. But on the other side of the coin it is also sad that so many have been turned off by the sad rule type things above listed that they have tossed the baby, bathwater and tub out the window. That is sad as well. |

Oh my Ed, after reading your opening post I realized:
It's sad that our rules have become our god. |

Like "don't run with scissors" good rule. Even church rules. "Standard" isn't a dirty word. Modesty, sobriety, moderation, these are good thing. We just gotta remember why we do all that to be pleasing to God, a living sacrifice. If Jesus is front and center the other stuff will work out. If leaders remember that they don't rule the roost and that Jesus is still in charge of his church... then there is no reason to be sad. |

When a doctrine is so sacred that it can't even be questioned, it has become an idol. |
Re: It's Sad.
Edward, I am nominating this post for "POST OF THE DECADE"!
You have hit the nail on the head, brother. Christianity as a whole has man our "rules", our "standards", our own thinking to be our god. We've completely forgotten most of the time that GOD looks on the heart. |

We err when we elevate some rules to the status of "word of God". And then enforce those rules to the hurt and possibly spiritual death of people. Murder is subjective, there are a few churches and pastors in the movement that have murdered and mutilated a persons chance at eternity because they/he felt that they had to line those people up. When Jesus just wanted to make them fell loved, safe and cared for. Like in everything, we need to have and exercise wisdom. It is sad that that particular commodity seems in such short supply. |

I know a preacher who says that when he gets new people, he spends the next few months preaching just as hard and rough as he can. If they're still there after that, he knows their hearts are right. :nah |
Re: It's Sad.
I think it to be sad when critical thinking is thrown out, because we have always believed this to be true, we like the traditional culture therefore any other evaluation or critical thinking regarding a previously held position is automatically refuted.
For example the traditional OP understanding and interpretation of Deut. 22:5. To question it, is now akin to Apostacy and automatically to be put under question. SO SAD! |

It is sad.
That's why I'm happy not being where things are sad. |

There was this guy, used to advertise his church in Bro. Tingle's newspaper 20 or so years ago, can't remember his name or his church, but his picture was him holding an open bible, with his finger pointing over it and with a stern frowning expression on his face like he was fixing to tear you up. Beneath the photo "Please Visit Our Church" Use to crack me up every time I saw it. I could tell he had some rules... |

Re: It's Sad.
It's sad that we rarely hear any preaching about Jesus.
Most preaching has become issue based. It's either about grace or legalism with no regard for the person of Jesus, at all. |
