You are supposed to keep silent in church. That means you cannot teach or preach but it does mean that you can pray, testify, prophesy or sing. So, if you are a called woman preacher, you have to testify for 45 minutes to get it out of your system. At least if you attend Steve Epley's church. :D

Somethin' 'bout a fire shut up in the bones. :slaphappy

I appreciate your humor. But still in question as to Gal.3:28.

Does keeping silent in the church really only refer to preaching. How do you get that?

No. If you read further, it is referring to a woman asking her husband questions in church. I don't think it has anything to do with preaching or the Bible wouldn't condone women prophesying.

Back to Galatians.......where Paul made no distinction in gender??????

Sorry. I missed your reference to Galatians. I haven't used this verse personally in an effort to prove women can preach. It is not talking about preaching but being in Christ Jesus and how we are all equal in him. Obviously, being a Christian does not make us all supervisors or kings or preachers. It does make us all Christians. I think there are better verses to use to show that women can preach.

Rom 10:15 How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

This applies to both men and women.

If people are the church, I agree that women shouldn't preach in church. Nor should men.

I'm not sure how they could breathe. :D

I knew a guy once who said women shouldn't have websites that minister to men. :slaphappy

When I was a newborn Christian, I can remember someone giving me a Bible Study, (Apostolic couple)...somehow, we ended up touching on this verse of scripture, and this is how it was taught to me.

Hopefully I can convey this in the right way... :winkgrin

I Cor 14:34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

36 What?!? http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l7...Mrs_/noway.gif came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

It all becomes so much clearer when you say that word 'what' in the right way, with the right attitude! :heeheehee

If one reads the passage, it's clear that Paul was addressing problems in the church. He said WHAT??? about a few issues.

Sister Alvear 04-20-2007 02:56 PM

I sometimes joke and kid some of you all about this subject but let me seriously say IF I believed a woman could not preach based on that scripture neither would I let her minister in song or teach even the babies class...for before the baby is born most already know what sex their baby is...
I have been to churches where the most humble lady minister was not wanted but the song leaders Mostly sisters screamed and worshiped all over the platform...
If it would be wrong for me to tell a witchdoctor how to be saved and TEACH him the way to heaven then it is surly wrong to have a ladies voice ministering in any way and that includes working in the alter...

If the female voice is silent then we would have no story to even preach for men only repeat a story first told by the women.

Scott Hutchinson 04-20-2007 05:13 PM

I think 1 COR.14 :34,35 was written to an unruly faction of women in the church.Because 1 COR. 14 deals with order in church services and the proper usage of the gifts.
