That's awesome!

(But those highlighted things in the text are weird. Hovering over "church", e.g., I get an ad for Austin Infusion Center -- Outpatient IV Infusion Center Comfortable and Convenient. Tempe gives me one for Zax Pints And Plates, in Austin.)

LOL. That's just you!

The ad I get from the newspaper's "context" driven keywords are:
"Church": an ad for a local (to me) ballet production of Don Quixote.

"Community Service:" Folk, Roots and Accoustic Concerts

So much for "context!"

I'm not much good at starting threads... but I saw this news clipping on an unnamed "social networking" site and thought the story was pretty cool. The church that is mentioned is of the Apostolic Faith tradition and baptizes in Jesus' name.

There was a movie (I think it was the one with a computer that predicted crimes so the cops could make arrests before it happened) that had displays that recognized you as you walked by, and customized ads for you. "Hey, Timmy, check out the sale at Twin Liquors! Half price tequila, today only!"

It is cool! It's an awesome thread! And my side-tracking of it is cool, too! :thumbsup

Awesome!

Young people need to know how to "give up" and this is a great way to teach them while helping others!

I remember when the Roams were in Lancaster, Ohio. I visited their church several times. Never knew they had come here to Phoenix.

Jim Roam passed away a while back. His wife Sharon is still listed as "staff" at the church.

Phil Goldsberry is Senior Pastor now. The church is doing great!

This is from their Beliefs section. I really like their three basic premises.

Quote:

Christ Life Church is a basic Bible believing fellowship. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, giving a true record of the heavens and the earth, and of mankind, and containing a correct prophecy of the ages to come regarding the destiny of man.

Furthermore, we believe in three basic premises:

(1) Nothing contrary to Scripture can be true.

(2) Nothing in addition to Scripture can be eternally binding.

(3) Nothing less than obedience to Scripture can be pleasing to God
.

Yeah, probably some sort of "neo-fundy" wackos. Who knows? ... probably tell the men how to shave and the women how to wear their hair.

Is the word "obedience" a problem for you, Pel?

Aha!...a rebellious and stubborn spirit manifests itself!

Would you like deliverance? :smack

Our youth group does that 30 Hour Famine every year. They have a lock-in at the Epic Center (our youth facility) and go Glo-Bowling lots of times. Then at the end of the 30 hours, we feed them tacos or some other "kid food". They have a GREAT time doing it.

My boys have done it every year for the past 4 of 5 years.

What is it with breaking this particular fast with tacos? I think that's what they did in the AZ church in the article as well.

Is this church affiliated with a specific organization?

If no, did it used to be?

The founding pastor was once a UPC pastor at what many people at the time called the "Headquarter's Church" in the St. Louis area. His father had pastored that church for a number of years prior.

He left the UPC and started this church in the Tempe area a number of years ago. He has since passed away. The current pastor is an alum of a UPC Bible College.

I believe it has something to do with the fact that it's usually YOUTH who do this fast. As an adult, I can't imagine fasting for more than 24 hours and then filling my stomach with tacos right out of the starting gate. YOW!

Christ Life is part of the Global Network of Christian Ministries.

It's a good church. I've visited several times - almost joined the church, but after visiting for a little over a month with my wife, we decided not to.

My husband is on their board, and preaches there once in a while. Great people!

I was there when he preached in 2007. Good church, have a few friends that either had gone there and moved or go there currently. Really impressed with their greeting process and staff.
