Shibboleth (pronounced /ˈʃɪbəlɛθ/[1] or /ˈʃɪbələθ/[2]) is any distinguishing practice which is indicative of one's social or regional origin. It usually refers to features of language, and particularly to a word whose pronunciation identifies its speaker as being a member or not a member of a particular group

------------------------

In the Book of Judges, chapter 12, after the inhabitants of Gilead inflicted a military defeat upon the tribe of Ephraim (around 1370–1070 BC), the surviving Ephraimites tried to cross the Jordan River back into their home territory and the Gileadites secured the river's fords to stop them. In order to identify and kill these refugees, the Gileadites put each refugee to a simple test:
Gilead then cut Ephraim off from the fords of the Jordan, and whenever Ephraimite fugitives said, 'Let me cross,' the men of Gilead would ask, 'Are you an Ephraimite?' If he said, 'No,' they then said, 'Very well, say Shibboleth.' If anyone said, 'Sibboleth', because he could not pronounce it, then they would seize him and kill him by the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimites fell on this occasion.
– Judges 12:5-6, NJB

that is right...

I was taling about how important it is to be a real christian...and telling hem tat one time I read about how our vocal cords are formed to pronounce words...and was applying that in our everyday walk with God and how we must form a christian accent in all we do...being christian will become part of us and not something we pick up and lay down at will...
We must learn to know how to think like a christan...tak like a christian and live like a christian...

We must adorn the doctrine of Christ. Being like Christ by following his example should be our goal.

Amen!

I honestly wonder how many REALLY "learn to put on Christ" and live it.

Renda it is a life long process..but someting we all must strive for...it must be our goal... we are all humans so we al have feelings...as we read God´s word our hearts must be open to Him and when we fail he gives us that little feeling that we can do better...

Paul said in Romans 7...

18For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
19For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

20Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

21I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

22For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

23But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

24O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

25I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin

Romans 12:21 a challenge that says, "Do not be conquered by evil, but conquer evil by good."

Christ must be formed in us...we don´t become like him just because we recieve HIS SPIRIT.

OH, what a mouthful there!

Sister Alvear 11-10-2009 06:15 AM

Re: my message tonight at church

yes, my friend...a mouthful...however we know HIS GRACE is giving at our weak moments and another scripture says, "Where sin abounded, nevertheless, grace far more abounded." We must maximize a Savior who is greater than all our sins. A savior that loves us so much he keeps records of our thoughs and deeds an watches over us...what a great Savior HE is....
Renda you re such a kind peson...thank you for helping us have this wonderful forum.

3 different ways to say the same thing...

International Standard Version (©2008)
Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and do not obey your flesh and its desires.
GOD'S WORD® Translation (©1995)
Instead, live like the Lord Jesus Christ did, and forget about satisfying the desires of your sinful nature.
King James Bible
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Let your knowledge of the time we are living in move us to want to become more like our dear JESUS..

Martin Luther used to say, "Our god is that to which we give ourselves; that from which we seek our ultimate satisfaction."
