Some of the greatest songs ever. Switchfoot, for me, is right up there with Foo Fighters.

I agree, they are just fantastic! Lyrically, there is some very deep stuff in there. Have you ever heard "24"? It is one of my favorite songs by them, although that is hard to say, I don't think I've ever heard a song by them I didn't love. "Adding to the noise" is another one. The new album is GREAT!

BTW, this is an essay that Jon Foreman wrote for the Huffington Post, I thought it was really good.

Lord, I was glad when that was over!!!! :toofunny

Anywayssssss, my son had Switchfoot playing away when he lived here. I'm glad that he graduated and is not living here now. :thumbsup :toofunny

I'll check out what he wrote. His songs make me stop and ponder. They're not just cliches that have been worn out in 500 other songs..."Picked me up, turned me around", "Hallelujah, glory to ya". In a lot of songs, I can finish the lines the first time I hear them. But Switchfoot.....deep stuff.

We've done a lot of their stuff in church.

Dont really know much about switchfoot..and having listened to a sample of thier music, I noticed that they sounded like a pretty good band....but are they really Christian??

From the little I have read they dont want to be too closely associated with "the way called heresy"

They are definitely Christian, and you cannot escape that in listening to their lyrics, but they do not like to be called a "Christian" band. It's more like, let the music speak for itself. And it does.

Switchfoot has a similar philosophy to Larry Norman who refused to have his music marketed to Christians. He considered it a waste of time and wanted his music to be effective to those that had not yet come to faith.

Speaking of Norman, he was banned from most Christian book stores anyway, so he didn't have to worry about it for the most part! :)

And speaking of Deadeye.....in that post you were pretty nice to me. You feeling ok? :)

I can agree with the philosophy.

My oldest daughter has dated several writers/lead singers from bands (secular) in this area. I do not have a draw to this music at all, but she introduced switchfoot to her friends. I found myself at a concert of one of the bands... I listened for a while, then started claiming them for Christ. ;) whew... Just not my bag of tea, but my daughter says Switchfoot has such meaning to their words.

She writes songs and to me everything is so deep... but I have to keep in mind, God called her to be who she is for him. I know someday it will all fall into place, as she has been given some promises concerning her music.

There is a need for the music, the differences than what I am or more conservative christianity will not reach them... it is needed as how else will someone be able to introduce them to Christ?

This is the thoughts I keep as I try to calm down my conservative self as a mom.

Love Switchfoot. At onetime they were on a christian record label. Before they went mainstream a few years back.

There are a number of their songs just as deep, but if you read the lyrics to this song, "Dare You To Move", it's like reading a great piece of literature. When one comprehends the enormity of these words, it's incredible.

Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next
What happens next

[Chorus]
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before

Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be

[Chorus]

Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here

I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before
