~~~~Christmas Plans~~~~
Seems we've all been pretty busy and not been talking much about our Christmas plans.
For all those that do not celebrate Christmas - this thread is not for you.
What's the plans for your family this year?
Re: ~~~~Christmas Plans~~~~
My daughter and husband will be getting in tomorrow night from St. Louis! (my son and his wife live here)
Christmas Eve morning we plan to have a big southern breakfast, then bake some more cookies together! The guys will do guy things.
We will have dinner Thursday night, then open presents!!! Eat all the sweets!!! Watch Christmas Vacation and whatever other movie they decide.
Christmas morning I'm making Paula Deen's Hashbrown Quiche (eating lighter), then we'll have a BIG OLE Christmas Turkey/Dressing Dinner around 1:00.
I cannot wait to have my little family all together this year in my new house!
What are "guy things"? :noidea
Are there seriously those on AFF that do not celebrate Christmas? I keep seeing barbs thrown at those who don't but I haven't actually seen anyone say they don't.
Re: ~~~~Christmas Plans~~~~
My niece and her family of four children, two toddlers and husband will come Christmas Eve. We will meet another of my nieces about 1 1/2 hours from here around noon. I will take her gift and say hello to her family. There are coming from CO. So I hope the weather holds.
Yesterday I cooked peanut butter fudge, peanut brittle, Candy Pecan Clusters, Pecan cookies, Oatmeal candy, and chocolate unbake cookies. Plus I already made some snickerdoodles.
Today I will make more brittle, Reece bon bons, coconut bon bons, and enchildads to freeze.
Christmas Eve I will cook a ham, dressing, and veg sides, rolls, dessert.
Christmas Day I will make Breakfast pizza, Cajun Cornish hens, aspargus, stove top stuffing, fruit salad, cresent rolls, pecan pie, carrot cake, Lemon layer delight. My neighbor and her son may come and join us.
So I am very busy cooking.
Wii, basketball, watching football, etc.
Yes, there are many that do not and I didn't mean to throw a barb out - just didn't want to offend them with this thread.
"throw a barb". Not the best choice of words. Typing fast and nothing else arrived in my mind. "Point it out" "Call attention to", etc.
You know, I'm often thrashed because I'm not "apostolic" enough. But I think it's very un-apostolic not to celebrate Christmas. I'm gonna find out who those people are here so I can go accuse them of not being apostolic!!! :santaclaus
I actually wrote and article about this and published it-
"Why We Are Not Giving Presents This Year"
http://www.associatedcontent.com/art...is.html?cat=74
"while you will have lovely gifts to show off to the world, we will be making memories. You may get an iPod or a toaster, but I will get to gloat over winning a board game. You may receive a bottle of perfume, but I will be getting my toenails painted by my baby girl...
And I will be happy to trade the presents under the tree for the "presence "of my children."
Oh.....I'm offended at the suggestion that "guy things" is always related to football and sports. What about guys that don't like sports? Did you consider those? :lol
Polish Ravioli. Pasta filled with either Potato, Potato and Cheddar or sauerkraut. Initially boild, then sauteed with butter and onion.
Delicious.
Re: ~~~~Christmas Plans~~~~
I'll go to my sister's house and eat lots of food. The kids will open presents and play with their new toys... and my niece will probably "steal" my sister's present this year (they will both enjoy this one). Then we will eat more. We'll play some games-cards til we convince Dad to do something else, and then Scrabble. (He hates that game.) I'll laugh again at how stupid the old Frosty the Snowman Christmas special really is. My sister and I will talk a lot, and I'll teach her some things about computers. My niece will get piggy back rides til all of us are exhausted. Then we'll eat more.
That will go on all weekend.
Then I'll come back to my house, step on the scales, and hide them in the very back of the depths of the deepest closet for a few months.
Merry Christmas!!
In my glorious Sunday message this last Sunday, I pointed out that I remember very little of what I've ever received for Christmas. But I'll always remember the people I spent Christmas with. There are SO many in my family that are gone. I used to sit at the big family gatherings and the only thing I wanted to do was leave so I could go home and open the "REAL" presents.
But I don't remember ANY of those presents. But I'll never forget all those in that big family that I'll never see again on this earth. I'd give anything to go back and sit with all those that are gone and not be in a rush to leave.
Re: ~~~~Christmas Plans~~~~
Tonight, my daughter Jacq and I will make homemade noodles for Christmas. If we have enough time, we will bake more cookies.
On Wed, Jacq and I will bake cookies and make the potato salad for Christmas Eve. (get the pattern here… Jacq is my cook… Bekah will never enter the kitchen…only to eat)
Christmas eve I have to work until about 1 or so… then I will take potato salad and cookies to my Niece Erica’s house. My pastor is getting married at the church at 6:30 Christmas eve…so we will all head to the church to see him married. At Erica’s, we are having a Honey ham, potato salad, chips and dip and cookies… we will watch Christmas movies and open the presents between us. She is also a single mom with 3 kids…Erica is a big kid herself, and we will have lots of fun.
Christmas morning back at home, I will fix breakfast and the girls will open their presents. Hopefully my oldest will make it home for dinner sometime on Christmas. We are just going to be lazy, play games, and watch Christmas movies. I am making a roast for dinner, chicken and noodles, Mashed taters… and greenbeans/corn… I am not going crazy with the dinner, it is just us. Sometime on Christmas day, I will go out to see my mom and take her the fluffy PJ’s I bought for her. She won’t have a clue it is Christmas or that it is even me, but she will like the PJ’s and socks.
Expect about 50 or 60 people at the in-laws for Xmas Day dinner. Doing a photo so some had to schedule to be here together. Usually have a couple families alternate.
Neices from China along with a soldier via Germany in my house for a week and a half.
Then, spend the Day at the in-laws. Don't think we'll do a "sit down dinner." Probably just line up too much food buffet style and watch the kids open presents.
My 1/4 Ukrainian wife makes these with potatoes, sour cream and onion. She fries them in butter and calls them Perogi.
81.8% of those surveyed this last Sunday, thought my message was glorious, 22.4% thought it was semi-glorious, and 16.77% said it was the best sermon since Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners In The Hands...."
My two daughters and their families will come over our house early on Christmas morning. We will all get on a Skype video call with my son and his family in North Carolina.
Mrs. Steinway has lots of food planned for breakfast and throughout the day.
Around 4:30pm, the guys will all head to LP Field to watch the Titans defeat the Chargers, while the gals and kids will watch a rented chick flick!
Go Titans!
We already had our family get together. My husband and I and all our children and grandchildren. Plus my brother and his wife, my sister, my husband's brother, sister, nephew, and cousin. The only one not attending was our baby girl. She had to work, will probably not see her until after Christmas. Christmas day will just be me and my husband sitting around the house.
What did I do...?!!!!!:confused:
Seriously...we are having our annual Christmas Eve thing at my house to open presents.
It's usually 'open house', as brothers go to be with in laws and single and married nieces and nephews do their own thing...
So, I'm fixing chicken enchiladas, taco salad, sausage and cheese puffs, cheese and chili dip, and not sure what else.
Christmas morn we will go to my youngest brother's home for breakfast, and than chill for the remainder of the day. :christmasfire
Saturday we are having Christmas dinner here...ham, and all of the usual fixin's...
Looking forward to a nice time of rest and fellowship with family. :star
Well, since we now live five and a half hours away from my family, they are all coming here this year! To our small rented house! Yikes! They will get here late, late Wednesday evening and then we'll all go shopping on Christmas Eve (family tradition) and then we'll be in on Christmas Eve night...the girls will open their Christmas pj's and we are just having soup, sandwiches and lots of appetizers and desserts this year! I'm actually having to cook...scary thought if you know me!!! Then we'll get up on Christmas morning and we'll have a bigger breakfast and then munch on all the leftovers...all day long! Yeah for Christmas!!
My family gets together on Christmas Eve- around 4 pm they will gather at my house. I am fixing stuffed mushrooms, homemade hummos dip, pigs in a blanket and another dip for appetizers. Then we will eat Shrimp gumbo- a Christmas tradition- Then open presents- Then the kids will fire off fireworks under supervision of the adults. We go to visit some aunts that do not have children sometime that night to wish them a Merry Christmas. Christmas day we will chill until the afternoon. We will go to eat with my step son's family and exchange gifts with them.
We will have Christmas Eve here. My son and his girlfriend of three years will be with us. She wants a ring. He asked me what should he do? I said, "You're man enough to make your own decisions." That was easy! :toofunny
We will have roast with carrots, mashed potatoes and gravy, uppity green beans (LOL) and angel biscuits and iced tea.
I will also be making my son's favorite dessert - Tri-level brownies. Doing sugar cookies with Royal icing and sprinkled with Wilton's white sparkly sugar.. I can't stand making sugar cookies but, I'm in the mood this year.
We will probably play Pictionary - girls against the guys! :D It's our favorite game when we get together. :santathumb
I will have Christmas music playing and The Christmas Shoes movie, muted.
Christmas morning we will be driving to Austin for several days. My husband will be preparing the brisket on Thursday to take with us. I will bring a pot of pinto beans and Potatoes O'Brien. We always have BBQ on Christmas Day - Elgin sausage. Bringing leftover dessert since no one here eats much of it. I just make it for decoration. LOL!
Still wrapping gifts!!!!
:merrychristmas
