Rich Mullins, He's the writer of the song "Awesome God". Here is a video segment of him speaking in one of his concerts. I find it interesting.
Here is some of the key moments summarized. Proof Texting is Dangerous 1:27 - 1:52 Watch me for entertainment go to Church to be spiritual 3:00 - 4:12 I don't know how to feel closer to God 4:59 - 8:51 (4:59 - 8:51 has so much in it I don't know how to break it down or summarize it) Here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQnFU5JvuWY |

By the thread title I thought that you had finally read my biography!
Then to find out it is about some songwriter. LOL |

Re: An interesting guy
He was and is one of my favorite artists across all genres. Never got the chance to see him in person. At the end of a lot of his concerts, he would have the crowd start singing with him, tell them to close their eyes, and walk off stage without any fanfare. He really wanted all the glory to be to God.
Another interesting fact, he had taken a vow of celibacy and a vow of poverty. The royalties from his music went to his home church and they paid him an income in the low to mid $20,000's. |
Re: An interesting guy
Rich Mullins was a very interesting guy. Very deep thinker, too.

Re: An interesting guy
At least he WROTE "Awesome God" instead of being one of the 20 others who sing it on 2-CD compilation after 3-CD compilation after 2-CD compilation.

Re: An interesting guy
I always loved his music. It always had more weight and meaning than most of the fluff on Contemporary Christian radio.

He's my all time favorite contemporary artist, too. I got to go to some of his concerts. Most of them I went to were "for a love offering at the door", and most were not in huge auditoriums. I never saw him in a concert with lots of lights and special affects, but just simply Rich Mullins. One of his songs required no musical instruments, but a stack of paper cups (Screen Door). As part of another one, he had the audience participate-he directed us, and it sounded like a storm (Ready for the Storm). I kept thinking that someone would turn the sprinklers on to solidify the affect!! At another concert, he came onstage in old blue jeans and a t-shirt... barefoot, too if I remember right. There was a collective gasp from a few staid older members of that church, but the concert was wonderful. After one concert, I went to back out of my parking space and hit another car... found out it was one of the band member's cars. I went in, a nervous 17 year old, to tell them. No one was upset, no one said I should have been paying attention or that I shouldn't be bothering them. The band member said he was sure it would be fine, walked out with me, looked at it, and assured me that the damage was minimal. He popped the bumper back into place, wished me a good night, and walked back in. Refused to call the police or make an accident report. He treated me better than my own dad would have. Talk about a Christian response!! And, BTW, the car was nothing fancy-it was actually in worse shape than mine-and they had no special parking reserved for the band.
