Derren Brown: The so called Messiah

With the threads about prophesying and being raised from the dead, it is very important to have a strong foundation when evaluating such miracles.

I will say that you must have pretty strong faith to view these, but it is very much worth it.

I don't understand why u posted these. Do u not believe in prophets or the supernatural? I think this guy has psychic powers and uses them to discredit psychics.

You think this guy has powers? He flat out says he doesn't. His "gift" is basically the same as that seen on the show 'The Mentalist'.

Do you think there are sincere fakes? People who use natural abilities but think they are supernatural?

I believe there are. Some of the poorer "cold readers" as well as those who think they have dowsing abilities.

Were you trying to post something that makes no sense at all.

He has psychic powers that he uses to discredit psychics?

I think it is extremely interesting. I hate the way people are manipulated and it happens daily in churches, and if you are the guy that doesn't respond to the manipulation you are going to split hell wide open.

Can you always spot a fake (whether intentional or accidental)?

When it comes to those using 'cold reading' techniques, yes I can spot them within seconds. Unfortunately this is the majority.

What is interesting (and wish it would have been expounded on more in the show) is that the only one of the 5 "professional endorsements" he DIDN'T receive was from the Christian evangelist. Everyone else was willing to offer jobs and interviews right after his (very impressive) demonstrations, but the evangelist, who also said his demo was impressive, wanted to meet again. No more details were given.

I noticed that. I would like to hear what some of the people who were duped had to say after they found out they were fooled. It was interesting that there was no follow up on the minister that refused to endorse him.

That was kind of new age like anyway, rather than Christian.

I am sure that at least a few of them still think Derren Brown was the real thing (just like our own DM believes), even after admitting himself that he isn't.

It is important to realize that Derren Brown is a magician and master hypnotist as well as mentalist. He is open to using any trick in the book in order to appear to have various powers. When doing his remote viewing test in Sedona, AZ, he probably "suggested" things to the drawer in the other room before she even went there. When "speaking to the dead" he also very likely did some basic research into some of the audience members in order to get a few basic "facts" that he could hit on -just like any good televangelist would.

Perhaps I wasn't clear with my new age comments. I totally agree with you and would love to see a follow up of how he did some of the things. What I was referring to was the things he said in the segment where he was going to turn them into Christians. There was nothing distinctly Christian about what he said it was a rather spiritualism that allowed the "believer" to believe whatever he wanted. Obviously he is a master manipulator.

I was referring to the drawings in sedona. How could he guess in order: cross, tree; banana; water, sun; I think he is psychic or the drawer was in on the plot. no way u can guess 4 out of 4 like that.

He's good. Really good. And he's not going to tell us how he did it. Magician's code. ;)

In other demonstrations he has done tricks where he has someone else read HIS mind and use a pen and paper to do it. In those instances the trick was that he 'suggested' to them ahead of time what to draw using hand signals and verbal clues. It really was uncanny and even a bit spooky but still very much a trick. In those cases he also continually told them to keep the drawings simple -using simple geometric shapes in most cases. Imagine the surprise when he told the "mind reader" what he was thinking only for them to discover that they successfully read his mind as they showed what they just drew.
