Mexican Resort?

Anyone have a great Mexican resort they have personally experienced?

Must be family oriented - no topless beaches etc.

Re: Mexican Resort?

Yeah, good luck with the no topless thing in Mexico! We stayed at a family friendly place, but the beaches are public. There was some topless stuff going on there, but mostly everyone ignored it, except for one really redneck American guy who stood right in front of her snapping pictures while his wife and kids stood a little ways off. I wanted to slap him, but the topless gal just smiled and posed.

We're going this year to Cancun and staying at the Westin. I don't know if it will be any different.

We're doing the West Coast of Mexico - cruise thing this year. I haven't been further down that coast than Tijuana before. Cabo, Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.

My wife has this "thing" about never having ridden a horse along a beach before, so that's one thing we're doing.

I didn't see any topless women at Cozumel, but that's not really "resort" style lodgings. Mostly cabins and such, but some nice beaches.

My husband got terrible food poisoning in Mazatlan and had to be emergency "flighted" back to L.A. to a doctor there. I don't think I'll ever get him back to the western side of Mexico, although it was nice there.

We did a jungle cruise, where you ride a flat bottom boat through the jungle and they cooked a Mexican meal over an open fire. It was really cool, and I ate the same thing he did, but he got sick and I didn't. Just be careful!!

Been to Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Vallarta, and Progresso. I saw no toplessness, anywhere, ever. (Female, that is!) And no, I didn't try to find it! :lol

How? By being you, and not being your husband? :hmmm

Gonna remember that... "flatbottom boat - Beware!" Thanks. We've got one excursion planned to go to the "jungle" and visit the canopy. No boat rides mentioned. I really do not need a med evac.

Did you go swimming in the river on that trip? Maybe he swallowed some water that you avoided?

We stayed here:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...Peninsula.html

It was a nice hotel. We went off season, so the weather wasn't great, and I can't say that I'll ever want to go back to that part of Mexico, but if you are going to go -- that's a good place to stay ;) Saw no toplessness.

I much prefer Hawaii.

Also, we did this:

http://www.hiddenworlds.com/

Great for families, but very rustic and VERY non-commercial. I wouldn't recommend it for kids younger than maybe 10. We did the cave snorkeling, zip line and "skycycle". All were great.

Nope, no swimming. He actually thinks he got the food poisoning at the resort eating some chicken tortilla soup, but I hate to think that because it was a really nice place to eat. I prefer to think he was poisoned in the jungle - it sounds much more exciting. LOL!

I've been to the Mayan Palace in Nuevo Vallarta (its like the suburb of Puerto Vallarta...hehehehe). It was a great resort right on the beach and had a great pool. I am not sure about family from the stand point of activities at the resort, but there was no nudity.

Here is a link: http://mayanresorts.com/mayan-palace/nuevo-vallarta/

It was beautiful there. That is actually where I own my time share.

We've stayed at the "Vallarta Torre" resort in PV. Best vacation we ever had! It's not a superluxury megaresort, but it's very nice, and all the personnel are awesome. It's on the beach, has a nice pool and a little restaurant and bar, and if there was any nudity, I didn't notice it. :lol

We had lunch with some friends at a resort in Ensinata (sp)last September. It was very nice. Our friends have a work there. If you are interested let me know and I'll get the name.

We can get a direct flight out of St Louis (chartered). So that would be nice considering Stevie will just be a few months old.

In cancun...the Palace Resorts--we loved the Grand Moon Palace Resort when we went there last year with the boys. Moon Palace is a huge resort with three different hotels on one property---we stayed at the newest one (Grand Moon).

It was awesome. They have their own water treatment plant where they convert salt water to fresh so you don't have to worry about the water!

One of my wife's friends just got back from a resort on the west side of Mexico. Anyway...they had a lockdown one day as two drug cartels were having a gun battle in the lobby!!! She thought they were just shooting a movie or something when she saw men with machine guns running everywhere!

This happened two weeks ago!

OH, gee thanks! This is really comforting... :ursofunny

Actually, This is one reason we booked through AAA. They have a list of areas and resorts to avoid. Also, they do not recommend driving through the border - a lot of violence there.

I do hope we won't look back at this and think we might as well have gone to Guatemala with the family instead. Our friends there want us to come, but the violence seems to be at all high levels right now.

Hoovie, glad you have a great time in Cancun. We go in about two months, and are staying at the Westin resort. My daughter and her husband and my son are all going.

Did you find any really good restaurants in Cancun, or was your all inclusive? When we went to Cancun about 8-9 years ago, we never really found anything great to eat. Just wondered if you had any suggestions????

Ours was all inclusive. The Dreams is about an hour South of Cancun City. We did not want to go looking for food with the little ones and all. The only extras we paid for was massages and excursion to the Tulum ruins.

Are the ruins worth going to? Is there a ton of hiking involved?

Yes worth it I think. Not much hiking at all. Because of the proximity of our resort, an hour South of Cancun City, we chose to visit the Tulum ruins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulum

There are also the larger and greater famed Chichen Itza ruins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chichen_Itza

If you can choose I would go to the latter if possible, since they are much more substantial.

Glad you had a good time! We've just begin our vacations to various Latin and Caribbean islands. Our first was Jamaica last Summer and the Dominican Republic this time around. We REALLY like the all inclusive part of it all.
Let us know if you'd like to meet for an island adventure (from the comfort of a nice resort) sometime! :)

Jamaica was nice though we were only there a few hrs. - long enough to eat some fresh coconut and buy some Blue Mountain Coffee beans.

We likely would not recognize each other... people look different with clothes on.

Probably not. All my shirts have a bit of padding sown in them to simulate a small gut. Without a shirt, my 6 packs literally glisten in the Sun (and my stomach does as well).

ROFLOL!!!

By the way, go to Aruba. It's the best Caribbean island. We've been there four times, and that's where our daughter got married. It's the safest island in the Caribbean - you can walk around any time of day or night and feel secure. Fabulous restaurants!!

We also love St. Thomas - we are planning another trip back there soon. It's a really fun place - great beaches and wonderful shopping and eating.

We were looking at several resorts in St Thomas and we plan on going there next year, but they were all on the pricey side. We also checked the Atlantis resort, but those prices were just insane!

For some reason...in the back of my mind...I thought I remembered that your daughter married in California. Thanks for the advice about Aruba. How wonderful that you have apparently visited most if not all the Caribbean islands. After the Alabama teen that went missing in Aruba and seeing how their government responded to that I just decided that I would not help support that country with my visits. I do agree with you about St Thomas...what a special island with lovely people.

She had a legal wedding at the courhouse in CA in May of 2008 and then a beach religious ceremony in August of that year. Her dad did the second ceremony.

The reason I've been to several of the islands is from cruising and stopping at several of the islands. The only ones we've stayed on for more than a day are St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and Aruba.

Also, concerning Natalie Holloway, I think there are always two sides to every story. I followed it pretty closely and read her mom's book. But I still love Aruba. We have been there four times and I would go back the next time I find free flights.

To answer your question...I have no issue with Sherri. I simply made an observation and it seems I was correct. So what is the big deal ... really?!
I really do not remember making a comment about the "Aruba wedding" but so what if I did? I really am not trying to get into a question/answer with you...I just do not get what your biggest problem is.
Sherri addressed my post. She did not seem to take offense with it. I guess this is just an ongoing problem with forums....things can be taken totally out of context and judgments can be made because you neither know someone or know their spirit.
