Obama Proposes Spending Freeze
 

A month ago President Obama signed a bill that increased govt spending by 12%. Today he proposed a spending freeze that essentially cuts spending by 1%.

Can we all collectively say it together?

His freeze is basically his way of guaranteeing his programs will recieve the bloated level of funding he gave them fo rht enext 3 years. He raised the budget of the EPA by 35% under his reign of stupidity. Now they would get 3 years of that crazy level.

His freeze will last 3 years beginning in 2011. It only will apply to $447 billion toward the $3.5 trillion budget. It won't apply to any of the unspent $862 billion stimulus plan, his healthcare plan or the House of Representatives $156 billion stimulus plan.

By 2020, the budget forecasts a $1.9 trillion annual budget deficit, a public debt of 98 percent of GDP and annual net interest spending surpassing $1 trillion.

I rented a new release DVD yesterday and on it was a trailer for some new release HBO doc on BHO's campaign. It was pretty amusing watching the clips on the trailer from back then, seeing how the campaign was then, compared to now. I think I may rent it when I get a free rental.

Where were all the deficit hawks when George Bush was increasing spending on two wars and cutting taxes at the same time? Clinton was on target to eliminate the deficit, republicans blew it up. Suffer now, Hypocrites!

We were mad at the spending. that is where we were.

however, 400 billion dollars in deficit spending while bad, does not have the same impact as 2 TRILLION in deficit spening.

There is a difference between these two things my friend.

you may call me a hypocrit for just being "not happy" about the 400 billion while being completely irate at the 2 TRILLION... I can live with the lable.

Sorry. BO’s deficit is about 1.85 Trillion (not 2T) however, these two articles provide a pretty interesting juxitopsition between Bush and Obama.

First you have an article that provides the 2009 budget projections from the Bush Whitehouse.

The bottom line here GWB’s administration gave a number of $482 Billion or 3.3% of GDP.

After Obama became president and started spending, the CBO projected the number to be $1.85Trillion or 13% of GDP.

Even if you subtract the GWB projection from the Obama numbers, you end up with 1.4 Trillion in Obama spending ABOVE the GWB spending. That is just insane.

And again, we come back to something that is very important to understand. GWB’s spending was out of control at 3.3% of GDP. However that is a far cry from 13%.

If Clinton hadn't let the military get depleted where Bush had to pull it back up to speed his spending would look better also.

according to fox news, the 2009 budget deficit is only 1.4 trillion. how much of that is the stimulus package and how much for tarp? the money has gone to save jobs and save the economy. I don't think George Bush was including military spending in his budget projections. see deficit spending in article

I routinely criticized GWB and the GOP for their freespending ways, even wrote them a letter chatising them. It is laughable to call us hypocrites when your guy is the Babe Ruth of deficits and spending and national debt, and he was able to achieve that status in ONE YEAR! GWB is the Little League World Series MVP compared to BO.

His deficits will dwarf the combined deficits of all 43 previous presidents COMBINED. And you want to call us hypocrites? Whatever. You'd be better off changing your screen name and removing that dopey picture of the prez and start afresh, cause its not going to get much better for you between now and 2012.

Bush did include military spending in those numbers. the hard numbers for 2008 are right in line with his 2009 projections.

the 1.8T was CBO projections from mid year. I based my comments on memory as I have not taken the time to look at hard 2009 numbers.

so YEA! we went from 4.5 billion to 1.4 trillion in deficit spending. Forgive me if I see that as a terrible thing....Also I dont see how you can say "only"

as for TARP, the majority of that money was paid back in Physical year 2009 so your 1.4T will reflect zero outlay on that. In fact TARP has made money.

I am really sorry my brother, but there is no way you will get me to say the stimulus was good spending. That stimulus was a travisty. you dont give millions to planned parenthood in a stimulus bill. you dont give billions to ACORN. period.

No matter how you slice it, Obama spent a TRILLON dollars more in 2009 than GWB did in 2008.

on top of that 2010 is projected to be almost as bad... and we have not even seen what the new "Jobs" bill will look like and we dont have a clue what kind of bill may pass related to healthcare.

so 2010 can be just as bad as 2009.

Bro, no matter how you cut it, no one in the history of America has spent like Obama. NOBODY.

Dedicated Mind it seems you have a "Narrow Mind!" I don't care what Bush did, Clinton did, Ford did, Nixon did... or any other did...ling President did. I'm concerned about what is going on right now, and the consequences of a wild, out of control spending president.

I guess when the economy crashes, the dollar dies, the Chinese call in their debt, (the foreigners already have our 7-11 stores and motels and who knows what else) and no one has a job, a pot to ..... excuse me, to cook in! we can sit back with glee and say George W. Bush caused this. It's all "W's" fault. That should really satisfy us, feed us and pay our bills.

James Carville, one of the biggest mouths the Democrats have out there, has stepped out and said Obama, ("your man, DM"), has messed up the party and the country. Can you say this? Will you admit that he has done anything negative, that he has caused the country any harm?

Try it! You can do it! Hold your nose, if you have to, but go ahead and say it! Here's what you need to say, "Obama has messed up our nation!"

The President is darned if he does and darned if he doesn't.

Truth is, he is in a hard predicament-- the whole country is in a hard predicament.


The spending freeze-- if he stops too much at once, the recovery might stall as Americans will feel the pinch as the economy returns to square one.

If he does not slow down on at least some stuff, inflation will be our demise.


I really want to see or hear his address tonight-- it will be CRUCIAL that he instills confidence and sets the right tone for the country, even if he has to face mounting criticism from both sides.

Jermyn, your good president isnt darned if he does and darned if he doesnt.

what he is, is a man who has NOT focused on the eocnomy and instead spent like a drunken sailor (no waith that is a republican)... he has spent like a drunken democrat in the face of a massively rising debt load.

Instead of focusing both spending and tax policy on turning the econonmy around he has focused on a healthcare bill that clearly the majority of Americans did not like.

He fiddled while America was burning.... after he added gas to the fire.

THAT is what your good changychangechange president has done.

I would be far more patient with him had he been focused on the pressing issues of the day instead of this bull headed liberal rant he has been on.

On the freeze spending, he is doing the opposite of what it looks like. He isn't reducing spending, he is only locking in the huge increases that were instituted last year!
